I knew there was something very off when i was young playing GTA 3, spawning Rhinos and they just never despawned. They always stayed no matter how many times i reloaded my save.
That's a myth. Two cars last used always stay in memory unless they're left within the mission cleanup script area. Keeping the doors open is irrelevant.
My friend and I spawned a bunch of 'em outside of the hospital back in the days, like 15 or almost 20 i think. The "big" OG PS2 lagged a bit, but did not crash! And then we discovered the "ghost town cheat" for the first time. We was thrilled! I tried it again on my friends PS2 slim from '05 last week. I spawned at least 20, if not more! The framerate dropped, but no crash! (I wanted to show my sister how to make a ghost town, haha) Edit: Swinging the cannon backwards, spamshooting the cannon like a thruster, made the tank reach insane speeds!! Fond memories!
They weren't originally supposed to be tanks. If you look at their concept art they were originally APCs like the one in Gay Tony... still would have used a roof hatch though. The final tank in the game is just a really bizarre creation.
I'd believe the cause of the Rhino remaining in memory through cheats is a bug between data within the save file and a singular Rhino being loaded in to the system's memory upon start. This Rhino in question is at the little National Guard base you help Phil fend off from the cartel, with the rhino there being unlocked after game completion, or just pushing it to the garage on Stauntion Island. The game always warned us not too save with cheats on and we didn't care much back then lol.
If you expect any modern company to have any sort of decency now days man, you will be in for bad surprise. Always expect the worse, that is all they deserve after all based on their actions. I love gta, but after the hot garbage that was gta v compared to GTA IV, I will never buy anything from them again as I already have most of their games in physical copies.
I love this, I use to screw around in GTA for countless hours back in the day Something you may appreciate, GTA vice city has a cheat code to increase the tire size of vehicles, it seems like a pretty pointless cheat..but..if you enter the cheat, then save, then load, then enter the cheat again you can stack the effect You can repeat this over and over and over to get crazy results Careful of going to crazy with it though as tires will literally fill the screen and crash the game At a certain point vehicles are too high up to enter and the driving physics gets all messed up as cars just tumble around and bounce away I've only messed with this once waaaaay back in the day but I would love to see you do a deep dive into how you can screw with missions using this
some speedrun routes use phil's rhino for evidence dash, but the twist is that one doesn't have the proofs so blowing up cars next to yourself is very dangerous.
@@kaiserruhsam Yeah that's something I want to try -stealing the Rhino from that mission. If you garage it, it gains its additional proofings if I remember right.
Wow I had no idea that the rhino tank stayed in memory like that! That explains why there was always a random tank in the tunnels leading to shoreside vale, my uncle used to messed with cheats in gta 3 and created a save for me when I was younger because I could never unlock all the islands, I still have the save to this day, R.I.P to him and thank you for making this video. ❤
Brings back so many memories of playing my older brothers ps2 when I was like 4 and he had a save where I’d find tanks in random places from where he’d used cheats to spawn them or he left them in them places. I’m 25 now, time flies. Used to prefer GTA 3 when I was a kid as well to Vice City or San Andreas, love this game.

I had NO idea about this because I don't use cheats all too often in GTA III but I'm working on a massive video about the game and a huge segment will be based on the game's isolated feeling. Man I loved this video and honestly everything else you do. These are the games of my generation, so many memories and then you come along and show me things I never knew about games I spent hundreds of hours on. Brilliant.

One thing you didn’t mention Matt is that if you save the game with a spawned tank it will persist in your game even if you power off the console. Also driving them into water does not kill these. I got one stuck in the water on my PS2 save as a kid and there was no way to destroy it. It was there forever. Strangely, I had this same thing happen recently with a PCJ-600 in Vice City DE on PS4. Not a cheat vehicle either, it was one from a mission. I was able to drive it around and park anywhere and it would stay there even after closing the game. I saved videos of it.
Gta 3 had some of the most hilarious effects on missions when using cheats I remember you could make 8 ball’s head float away from the body during bomb da base cutscene when using speed cheat
I recall back in the PS2 days I could glitch the tank through the closed subway gate on portland by going up the ramp, dropping into the stairwell and sliding upside down, where it would clip through the gate entirely. To this day, I've never been able to replicate this or seen anyone talk about it
I used to spawn these tanks in a certain way to build a fortress, spawning a tank on top of another and so on. - In the end, I was left with a fortress like thing that blocked the road, saved me from the police etc. Allowing me to rampage and use the tanks as barriers etc. Fun times, many MANY years ago.
I remember the keeps two cars in memory...the one you're using and the last one you used I remember whenever I find a unique car, I'd take it to my garage and run back to the other car so it doesn't disappear.
on the mission "Decoy" you can actually see some of the police vans hiding behind billboards and stuff, and you can destroy them before getting inside the securivan. However, during the actual chase, the destroyed vans cause more Rhinos to appear....
Matt before I even watch the video, I just wanted to let you know that I feel like there are a lot of similarities between your channel and Kaze Emanuar's work. I just feel like you are the kind of person who might be interested in studying computer science and how code optimisation works. You always look for intricacies and peculiarities in games and these kind of correspond with exploring the inner workings of an executable file for example. Please take a look at Kaze's videos to see what I'm talking about.
If the 'linerunner' truck is used in van heist, you beat it very easily like you did with the ambulance. Just park the thing parallel Infront of the oncoming van.
The behavior of Rhino (spawned by cheat code) staying on map and being persisted in your save file is actually a bug. In fact, it was even fixed in the popular Silent Patch so PC players who use it won't experience this issue.
You could probably do something similar in Vice City with marked/glitched cars on PC, not as easy as using the cheat though. Like keeping the garage doors open in Sir, Yes Sir or at the final destination of the plates in Hit the Courier.
Back in the day, I think it might even have been on the PS2 version too, I spawned one and drove it into the sea. Except it was on top of the tunnel that connects the first and second islands, so it just stayed there forever, INSIDE the tunnel, and you couldn't get in, it hovered a bit over the road.
Hey, can you do a next episode of placing rhino in storyline missions? For example place it before mission "Mike lips last lunch" at place where his idaho stays, or maybe spawn it on bridge to shoreside vale, and check if it will levitate when bridge goes top or down.

I never beat Bomb Da Base part 2. I tried dropping multiple Rhinos in front of the ramp to the boat to give me more time to suck at sniping but 8-Ball always managed to push through and get himself killed
When I was a kid on ps2 I would always spawn rhinos in front of the portland hospital until the frame rate hit 5 or 10. I would normally have around 20 or 30
i always wonder what if gta3 was made in this era how would it have looked like. i am not talking about the graphics, but it would be closer to how the devs have actually imagined it. with all the ideas they had, and others they had to remove or weren't able to implement.
My favourite cheat after spawing a ton of Rhino's was to Enter the explosion cheat over and over and over ... Would send them flying up in the air. Easier on Keyboard.
I remember playing gta 3 on my cousin's pc, i remember trying to spawn the rhino cheat however it wouldn't spawn in front of me right away, sometimes it would spawn on top of me, im not sure if it was a bug but i thought it's pretty hilarious
Hi. I found out something else weird about the rhino in gta 3, if you try to shoot a police chopper down with it, it is not possible, it will only shake when you shoot at it, but will never crash
I wonder why it's like that?? maybe it doesn't despawn because if you were to trying to get a bunch of Rhino Tanks without cheats that would make it a lot harder to get multiple of them?? This is very interesting
Not the PC version. Omg many years later I was racing through the tunnel. tank from who knows the last time I played, slammed into it. The tank on the PS2 version if you drive ito it you blow up regardless
I remember getting into a rino and crashing it into another rino would generate money for some reason. Does the game give you money regardless of what vehicle the rino hits?

hi please can you help me : i remember having a glitch on ps2 where the more i would advance in mission , the easier i would be to glitch through the tunnel wall . like i remember having traffic spawning near the tunnel and some of them managing to go through
I havent watched the vid yet, but I remember using the cheat and I could be remembering wrong, but I spawned a lot of them, the traffic disappeared and I opened another save and there were tanks in other save slots as well. I got pretty scared that I ruined my game lmao.
