Braden from Fishermen's Source says if he could only use 1 fishing knot for the rest of his life, it would be a uni knot. Watch the video to learn how to tie it, how many different applications the uni knot can have, and why it is arguably the best fishing knot.

The uni is my primary knot. I've seen some evidence to suggest that the Palomar and San Diego Jam are stronger, but I think the Uni is more versatile than the Palomar (Except maybe for a finesse dropshot presentation), and since I've been tying the Uni for so many years without issue that I don't fee the need to practice the SD Jam. That being said, I need 3 knots in my arsenal. The Uni-Knot, Dropper Loop, and the humble Cinch Knot (NOT improved, seen too much evidence that the improved version is weaker than the standard). That said, the only thing I use the latter two for are dropper rigs/high low rigs/etc for saltwater fishing. I cut my dropper loops instead of trying to thread it through like some people do, and I find a cinch knot is the easiest knot to tie on that short section of line, and it's been plenty strong enough for everything I've caught on it, up to a 36" Halibut.

The parts where you were tightening down on those knots....Please guys, be careful. My friend was in a blitz, his hands were wet and slimy, and he was tying on a diamond jig. When he pulled really hard to set the knot, the diamond jig suddenly slipped through his hand and the hook went into his hand at the base of his pinky finger, as deep as it could possibly go. It went straight into the bones in there and couldn't be removed, he needed surgery to get it out.

Ouch, that is unfortunate for your friend. It is so true, always be careful when working with lures/hooks!
