A tip to the people from someone who used this rig a lot as a beginner: I was also told about the "reel in very slowly" action however through personal experience this works best with curly tails, lizards, or anything with the curly bits. When using stick worms or worms with no curly bits I recommend casting into an area with a lot of cover (weeds, rocks, fallen trees, etc.) then allowing it to sink to the bottom. If you picked the right bait and you dropped it right next a fish there's a good chance they'll strike immediately. Otherwise let it sit on the bottom for just a few seconds. (count to 3 or 5) then give it a sharp twitch, or a good little yank upwards to pop it off the bottom. Reel in the slack carefully and allow it to sink again. If you have the right bait and there are fish about where you cast then you should get a bite every other cast.

If you’re using flukes, you can work them sorta like a jerk bait. I’ve also learned how to retrieve the bait on top of the water without reeling too fast, but it works best (for me) with lizards.

@deadaccount-rip
@deadaccount-rip Год назад
Congratulations, Jack! That’s a nice bass! The Texas Rig did me right tonight, too. I threw jigs, whopper ploppers, frogs, and swim baits for 3 hours without so much as a bite. I finally paddled over to my favorite spot around 11 tonight and covered the area twice with top water. When the whopper plopper and frog failed to produce any action, I finally decided to tie one of these green pumpkin 4” Senkos I grabbed the other day by mistake. I Texas rigged it with a 3/8 bullet weight. Then I tossed it into a 4-6’ wide channel that runs between the milfoil and a rock hillside, back toward the mouth of the creek that feeds the lake. On the third cast, I got absolutely lit up by what proved to be the hardest hit of the night. I had been distracted by another bass nailing a some unknown prey right next to my kayak and I missed the hook set. I worked that spot three more times with a fresh Senko before casting about fifteen yards further down the channel beneath a small shade tree that sticks out from the rock wall. I knew that in previous years that the day time bass frequented a pocket there and had a feeling I might get lucky. On the second cast, I got hit on the drop by a 3. He had some spirit and fought like a fish twice his size. Once I had him off the hook, I had to take a minute to admire how beautiful he was. He had a deep forest green color and looked to be in excellent heath. When I released him back into the lake, he showed me he still had a little fight left by soaking me before swimming away. Overall I was very happy with that fish being my first bass since I stored my rods a week before deer season in 2020. After I got him back in the water, I worked the area near that pocket for about five more minutes missing one more strike before finally hooking into my second fish of the night. This time, I was working a new Senko along the outside edge of that same pocket just outside the milfoil. After my third set of action, a slightly longer spawned out female hit on the pause. After dragging her out of the milfoil I found that she had managed to inhale just the tip and barb on my hook. She was already in less than ideal shape and removing the hook took longer than I would have liked, so I didn’t take the time to get a weight on her. I just wanted to get her back in the water. I continued down toward the end of the channel where I got drilled on the drop again. This time, my line snapped on the hook set. I hadn’t retied after my last two fish, and it cost me. I decided to look for a big bite and set up another Texas Rig, this time weightless with a 7” Senko. It was after midnight at this point and I wanted to look for one big bite before heading back to the boat launch. I got three strikes on this set up, but missed all three hooksets. The hook I used was just a bit too small for the longer worm and it cost me. The Texas Rig is the first bass fishing method my dad taught me and it’s still how I catch 75% of my fish 16 years later.

Used a weighted Texas Rigged Black/Blue Senko Earlier and casted to the fountain in my local neighborhood pond. Casted perfectly, hitting just on the outskirts of the water and I felt a "b- b- BAM", I let him tighten my line, and set the hook. Thiught I was snagged for a second, but though, "This is déjà vu, this is a fish." Never saw a bass bigger than 3 pounds jump before. 4 Pounder jumped and it was awesome! On a medium Rod! Pulled drag and faught like h*ll. Dink catcher, but also a giant catcher. Second best.

Texas Rig is my go to for bass fishing. I usually use 7" stick baits. The little lakes around me are super weedy so I like to bury the end of my hook inside the stick bait to make it truly weedless. I've heard people claim it makes it harder to set the hook, but I haven't ever had an issue.

Carolina rig is just as good & used in addition to soft plastics used as a bottom bait rig fresh & saltwater.Bullet slip sinker on the line. Swivel w/clasp loop knot in the clasp hook on the end. Heavier lb test is usually preferred on the bottom part as a shock leader for bottom fishing. Example 12 lb main line to 30 or 40 lb shock leader. Now your main line will break around 17-18 lbs due to extra stretch of shock leader. Bigger fish swivel no clasp. I've had the clasp bust open many times garfish/catfish.

U don’t want to rig ur Ned rig upside down, use a Ned EWG style hook for the action. Unweighted baits work but give a beginner a Ned rig or shakey heady it gets them going right direction for future bottom draggin/hoppin style baits atleast and can be done easily and mostly off spincasters

Your actually meant to keep the tip of the hook inside the rubber, the way your doing it can still snag. Fish have a powerful bike when they strike so biting through the rubber is like us biting into a banana, that's how you rig a weed less, always bury the hook.
@mattchartrand7676
@mattchartrand7676 2 года назад
It’s not necessary though. A lot of people don’t rig it weedless because of where they are fishing just to get that better hook set
@mtadave6702
@mtadave6702 2 года назад
@@mattchartrand7676 the silicon that the lures are made from are soft enough for a fish to bite through very easily. And the whole point of a weed less hook is to keep the tip covered! So YES it is necessary lad. I'm a 45 year old fisherman who fished since he was 11, and NEVER have I ever seen a weed less set up with the hook protruding out the side! A hook protruding out the side defeats the whole idea of it being a weedless set up!
@lancemosher8159
@lancemosher8159 2 года назад
Actually I have competed in the bass master classic tournaments and you talk to any of them there and the prefer to stick the hook out all the way for the hook sets will be better. And yes it is rubber but you miss more fishing if you leave it in the rubber compared to sticking it in and poking it back in a little bit. It also not silicone and it is more like a rubber.
@mtadave6702
@mtadave6702 2 года назад
@@lancemosher8159 I don't care if you've competed in the world bass championships, the whole idea of a weedless hook is to hide the tip of the hook from snagging things. And silicon is more durable than rubber, unless your using the cheap shit. Competing isn't winning either, I bet the ones who won had a couple of secrets they never shared with you either. I didn't have to tell you about this either, and my strength I the hobby is rock hopping, which involves fishing very rough grounds.
@treyzapata8481
@treyzapata8481 2 года назад
If there’s weeds bury the hook. If not leave it out. Idk why this is even an argument. Fishing for 45 years you should know this is based on preference. If you don’t mind breaking off every now and then leave it out. If you’re a smooth handed baby that doesn’t like tying then bury it🤣
@riverresident4769
@riverresident4769 10 месяцев назад
Versatility is an understatement. You can work it slow or you can work it fast. You can replicate injured prey in a current or twitch it on the lake bottom. If you point the tip down while you twitch, you can replicate a topwater lure, and if you invert the rod to your side, you can make it a topwater lure with a popping sound effect.

Love that rig. I throw a stick bait on there and let it sit there slowly lifting my rod up to keep slight tension so I can feel the light bite. When I do a nice hook set. One thing worth mentioning is that the bait you put in needs to remain mostly straight from the eye to the point. When you poke through initially it needs to be about the same depth as the hook point before it bends then poke through so have it sit right on the hook. This is my favorite largemouth bass setup.

‘Weightless as gas’ Priceless 🏆

Yes this is both my favorite you said it. Listen to how he said slow as you can stop reeling let the weight of the line make slack reel the slack as the line drops

In general, I’d say it’s 10:1 on ambush predator fish caught on the lure fall vs on the rise, so being patient with lures is key. Weightless takes PATIENCE. If you’re not patient, heavy sled head jig heads are great as they’ll keep pulling the lure down and bumping into things.

EWG for “extra wide gap” is one of those abbreviations that is longer than just saying the original name.

Very nice I will try it but to this day I prefer using double treble crankbaits. Firetiger and chrome lures, especially Berkley Flicker Shad. It has rattles, nice color, great roll with a double swivel, and comes in various sizes.

Hook up a zoom trickworm the same weedless style also with no weight and you'll catch an unreasonable amount of fish. The worms movement when jigged resembles a dying fish and nearly forces a bite on many species
