Excellent video Megan! I wish spin training would be required for all private ratings and not just the CFI rating. Excellent video angles and editing. Nicely done!

You can do spin training as a private pilot student - you only have to wear a parachute while doing it with your CFI But I agree, I'd be happy if it was a part of requirement, and not my own requests : )

@@fzakrzewski In Canada, spin training is apart of your PPL. I just did mine yesterday and it was only my 3rd flight. You absolutely do not wear a parachute nor have one in the plane

Spins are way more exciting in a 150/152. They get so vertical that you can see where you'd hit the ground..

Good video - some pilots stop their training in Canada for their private at this point as spins are required in the training and it freaks them out - but they should all view this video to see its no big deal. Great job.

I instructed in the Cessna T-37 for 1,000 hours. Bold face (memory item) for spin recovery was: 1. Throttles idle. Why not have throttles idle as the first step in the recovery in your C-172? Colonel John Scherer, USAF (ret) ATP/CFII SMEL

It’s great that you did a falling leaf. So few teach that. Your commemt later on about airspeed building in the spin, indicated it’s not a spin but a spiral. In a pin airspeed stabilized at or below the stall IAS

Sorry but the demonstrated spin entry is completely the WRONG way to demonstrate/teach spin entry, particularly for the purpose of spin recognition/prevention! (and recovery of course). Spin entry should only be demonstrated/taught off a slow over-ruddered (ie stalled and skidded) gliding turn....THE WAY SPIN ACCIDENTS HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE! As the tiger moth instructors used to drum into their students' heads "Don't stall and skid in a gliding turn, or for sure you'll crash and burn!". You can also turn this demonstration very nicely into a spiral dive by just relaxing the back pressure on the stick a fraction as the incipient spin transitions to a full spin, which allows good recognition of the distinguishing features of a spin and a spiral dive.

Spin-recovery training had ALWAYS been a part of PPL training and had to be demo'd during the FAA check ride for same... until about 1978, when GAMA lobbied to have it removed... which resulted in A) more under-qualified peeps getting their PPL; B) more under-qualified peeps buying GA aircraft; C) more under-qualified peeps (and their friends and families) dying in stall-spin accidents! Of course GAMA was only interested in B... and The American Bar Association has been thanking them ever since!

So, I learned that it's harder to keep it spinning than it is to recover.
@karhukivi
@karhukivi Год назад
True in modern aircraft, not true in older aircraft or high-performance aerobatic aircraft! The problem is that the recovery is counter-intuitive and has to be learned, or at least the immediate reaction to an incipient spin has to be practised. An untrained person who gets into a spin unintentionally will usually follow their instincts, do the wrong thing, and crash.

"builds up too much airspeed" while spinning??? If you're building up airspeed, you are no longer stalled, as such, you are no longer spinning. Am I'm confused? Would you mind rolling into a 45 degree turn, full bottom rudder, full opposite aileron, full aft elevator, power on? This is the common situation where a spin occurs.

Since when did instructors give instruction from the left seat ? Once the muscle memory for right seat sets in , now the student has to switch hands and do everything with the other hand when they change to the left seat .

@patrickcoleman3
@patrickcoleman3 Год назад
For a start what are you doing in the left hand seat if your instructing? also regarding please train your students with spin direction inputs using turn and balance wing down equals spin direction most useful in cloud, spin recovery is really easy but you must train them for a spin in cloud or NVFR when they are disoriented as long as you know spin direction and dont step on the ball.
@karhukivi
