Thank you so much for making this video, I have a 14 year old cat and she's been having health issues related to not being able to get all the vitamins and minerals she needs (such as hair loss)... I didn't even know what foods contain taurine until I saw your explaination. Thank you SO MUCH, me and my cat are eternally grateful 😊🙏
I give my two crazies apart from their raw whole food diet, I feed them grass fed beef heart, liver and trachea from Ancestral. They are some energetic little crazies!! :)
Life is a learning journey. Or at least I hope so. I am glad you are willing to tell us when you change your mind about things. This is one of the reasons you are my go to channel for my cat's nutrition. You are honest about ingredients, foods and processes. The blue algae powder is very expensive though. Especially for the amount offered. Yikes .
I add desalinated seawater to my filtered tap water, which I also give to my cats. It has the full spectrum of trace minerals and electrolytes, which I believe serves a similar purpose to supplementing with blue green algae. They can also drink as much or little water as they need. I knew nothing about cat nutrition (and little about human nutrition, but that's another story) until my senior cat got sick with kidney disease last year. That's when I found your channel. You've taught me so much! I immediately transitioned away from rice-filled food (Blue Buffalo sensitive stomach kibble and wet) but could never get him to eat raw. He did take well to a very low carb wet food though. He drank plenty of that trace mineral water too, I think it tasted good to him because it had all the extra stuff he had been missing for so long. He could drink up to a liter a day. I know that's not ideal or normal, but his disease was already too far advanced to heal, and he was 15, so we just did whatever we could to keep him comfortable and give him some quality of life until the inevitable end. He was a sweet boy and I feel terrible that I didn't know how to feed him until it was too late. We have a 10 month kitten now, and an 11 year old who lived with the senior cat for 4 years. I don't know how the 11 year old was fed for the first part of his life because we adopted him at age 7 from a shelter, he had been surrendered because his former human passed away suddenly. The kitten came from the same shelter, our local humane society. The kitten is loving raw liver, but she turns her nose up at kidney. The 11 year old hunts outside, he eats mice, birds, and the heads of small rabbits. Always just the head, I guess there's something he needs in the brain? So I'm not too worried about his diet, except in the winter, but I give him extra raw organs then which he loves. I got the full inside of a lamb once and he ate everything (over the course of a month or so, I cut it all up and froze in small portions). He loved the lungs especially. They both get a nearly zero carb wet food too, right now we're trying Tiki cat after dark pate. I can't get them to eat raw muscle meat though, or the pet store raw formulations. Every cat I've adopted from a shelter has been a kibble addict, and I don't know how to get them off it. The 11 year old will refuse to eat anything else I give, except the raw organs, he'll always eat those, if I don't give him at least a small amount of kibble daily. I'm worried that organs-only is not a properly balanced diet for him. That's what it would be for him if I took the kibble away since he barely touches the wet food. I give Dr Elsey's clean protein kibble which is the best I can find in my area. I don't like the chickpeas, but at least it's less than 5% carbs altogether. I recently tried hungry hunter raw food, they were completely uninterested even when I mixed some of their liver in. Oh well, the raw organs are a victory in my opinion.
Let's get back to nature. Hopefully, the algorithm will help get you more reach. I think you are putting a great amount of effort into the work you do. Inshallah, other cat owners will be able to learn from these videos. Also, very good point on the supplements being natrual and up to standards. Even those can use gmos and unnecessary fillers, which to a newbie may go unnoticed. It's very important to research supplements you use. Keep up the good work!
Let's get back to nature! Your tips have helped my cat go from giant/stinky poops every other day, to normal, less stinky, everyday poops! It's a thing.
"I put the powder out on a separate plate and let him choose when he needs it" Awesome to point out that they know what they need❣ My cat. licks concrete type surfaces when the opportunity presents itself. What deficiency is that indicative of? Thank you for a great video🙏👍🐾🍀🐾❣🌟
Yes! I'm working with a homeopath, and she introduced that idea to let them choose. Our cats have a lot of wisdom! Cement is typically mixed with sand, gravel, or stone. Perhaps trace minerals is what s/he's seeking? It sounds like this happens every time regardless of whether something was spilled there or not.
@@jesscaticles Hi Jess. At this point, I'd still like to cook meats for my cats & then move on to raw. What supplements are necessary to feed my cats if feeding cooked chicken & turkey thighs & breasts? Dr Andrew Jones has his Feline Supplement. I think it's like a multi vitamin supplement & taurine is important, I know. Where can I buy Taurine? Does it have to be specifically for cats and how much? Also, I dont have an oven, I understand roasted eggshells provide calcium. Could I just ground them instead of roasting them? Also, what solves gas in my young cat? I suspect she has IBD. Have to take her in & tell my vet I refuse to give her Hills crappy wet food. She loves Instinct freeze dried raw cat meals, thank goodness! I dont think these freeze dried raw food should be giving her gas, maybe it is bc its chicken? I could put her & her brother on Darwins and try this out if they would eat it. Pls kindly advise. Thank you. #Let's get back to nature, I agree
@@debbieshomes6984 I give a small sprinkle of taurine on my cats raw food. I bought human grade taurine. I don’t think there is such a thing as cat taurine. Body builders use it. Careful not too sprinkle too much on the food as your cats will simply walk away from the dish. Taurine is needed for the body to break down proteins in digestion for full nourishment. We make it BUT cats must get it from food or supplement. Without it food passes through and your cat becomes malnourished
@c8Lorraine1 I bought Brand NOW Taurine. I have yet to use it. Right now, still giving my cats Nulo, Soulistic & Just Food For Cats but it's 50/50 with JFFC & I have 2 IBD kitties so prob should try RAW food on them to see. They are super picky! I know my vet will give Hills and I don't like that at all. Most vets are against feeding RAW foods. But, cats outside eat birds and mice, without all these gums in pate style foods. Thanks for your reply. 😊
I am one of the ones who painstakingly adds the each individual vitamin, mineral, etc. I am looking for more complete nutrition now, many reasons but I have two rescues who were left/abandoned and the last little guy was starving and has hair loss patches, doesn't clean himself he was so weakened and bony. ugh. poor baby. so now I want to do the BEST I can........I can't do raw *not yet anyway, long story, but I am looking at ingredients, etc. and mixing it up when I can. I do use tuna in water and add silver *to their water, etc., and the vitamins and so on. I want to make sure I do this right, this poor last kitty is in dire need. do you have any recommendations at all for a "regular" diet *not raw but I will try with grinding up chicken hearts/livers *(?) but one won't touch raw salmon.....so......any suggestions are welcome......am looking at the blue green algea........but need the vitamins E and Bs......suggestions? thank you!
Hello Jess. Do you have a video on the best way to get my 20 month old kitty Grogu off of Kibble? We started him and his young Momma kitty on Darwin’s when he was about 6 months old. Momma kitty would eat in the beginning and she ate it well for about 5-6 months. Grogu is now at 16 pounds and he sleeps all the time. We started feeding them kibble in May of this year when Grogu was a year old. We got so tired of throwing away Darwin’s bc my momma kitty is a slow eater and it would sit out too long so we’d be afraid to feed it too her with it being 100% raw. We have some Darwin’s left in the freezer and we are going to try feeding them again. I believe my momma cat will be fine but Grogu is very food motivated but he doesn’t like wet or raw. Any suggestions to slowly get him acclimated to the raw? Thanks! Love your channel too! Just printed out the 11 page cat food label cheat sheets. I have had trouble learning to read and understand the cat food labels. This Blue Buffalo Wilderness food is making my baby obese and his daily activity diminished over the summer and he sleeps so much more. I have got to get him off of the kitty crack kibble. 🐈⬛
Got my two cats off kibble by temporarily using unhydrated freeze dried raw as mini snacks twice a day. They were also eating two wet food meals a day, too. Pretty soon I stopped feeding the unhydrated freeze dried, too, because any dry food is very dehydrating and not good for them. I started feeding the freeze dried rehydrated. Part of the rotation. So now they eat only wet food meals and no dry. Hope this works for you.
I've changed all that too. I'm working with a homeopath, and the remedy is specific to Jericho's behavior, needs, symptoms, etc. So I'd suggest 1:1 if you need help with that. If you want my recommendation: naturalcathealth.com/
@@jesscaticles Thank you. My general vet mentioned tartar on the gums, but I have 3 cats and one wouldn't be keen to having their teeth brushed. I'll look into this.
@@jesscaticles Hi Jess. U were feeding raw mouse ground up from Hare today as well as pinkie mice and quail. U still had to add the supplements to the ground mouse, correct? How come bc its ground?
@@jesscaticles I really want an holistic vet for my 2 cats Courtney & Beauty. I suspect that its IBD. Would u know of any in NYC area or where I can find a holistic vet (website). Sorry if I asked u before bc my other kitty Miracle had IBD last yr and my current vet did not know how to handle it and she unfortunately passed away on Nov 29, 2021. I still can't believe it and feel like I failed her. I want to be more proactive with my other two. I dont mind buying Darwins for them if they will eat it and hopefully the IBD could be managed.
In my cat's water bowl I put 3 river rocks . trace minerals. and the rocks do have algae forming so what you just said about ... "blue green" algae is good! I am currently adding a "sprinkle" of NUTRIONAL YEAST on my cats food! What are your thoughts on "Nutrional Yeast?
@@jesscaticles Thanks Jesse for the reply. About the nutritional yeast. I will try the egg yoke. But it's so more convenient just sprinkling the nutritional yeast on any food. Cause I have a lot of feral cats I take care of too.
Oh, while back I left the comment about I'm feeding my cat raw chicken cut up in pieces .. Ground beef. And low sodium roast beef. And tuna fish rinsing out the sodium 1st . you mentioned that I have to do a lot more ... research. To add supplements. You are right. Thank you. I'm looking into using a coffee grinder for unpasteurized, , organic eggs that I am buying. The egg shells for Calcium. Oh, at the reptile pet store they have CALCIUM POWDER! Why wouldn't THAT stuff be okay for my cats??cat's??? Mixed in properly .
Thank you for this video it’s very informative. I am just starting to feed raw actually putting in my first order for goat, ground with organ and bone 80/10/10. I am getting goat meat with the tripe as well incase I need to dilute the bone so he doesn’t get constipation. I want to add unpasteurized goat milk for probiotics. Any suggestions on how much to feed and will I be over doing the vitamins with the green algae and goat milk? I have an allergy cat. Trying single protein trials and now raw so I can control all ingredients and start to heal his gut/ and inflammation. Any suggestions ? I’ve been reading but have been afraid to start till now !
