Short of the SA Gov fixing the tax problem, the only thing Tesla can do now to lower the price would be to build their cars in SA using locally sourced components in a local factory.
That’s the thing Earl! When the Tesla gets to the UK, the prices are already inflated. By the time we import them from the UK, a lot of companies are already looking to eat and getting their fair share! It’s essentially ridiculous!!!
@@ayvep but then again Tesla's mega factory is in china, and the UK imports from them .the only thing that affects pricing with South Africa is the taxing structure. essentially being an enemy of progress. i dont even understand why the import duty is set at 40% , and then theres 15% VAT , it doesnt make any sense.
@@YungEarl1 😂You are pretty informed ! Unfortunately man, there is always going to be that one guy who wants to inflate costs for his benefit! But it also has to do with the chain of supply that this car has to go through to get to SA! It’s a long one and all of these guys at the end are looking to make profit! We have a long way to go as SA
SA is second highest fossil fuels coal producer in the world the EV space is and will remain a niche market in SA for next 15 years. SA needs to develop its own EV 🚗.
1000% agree with you YaHBona, the SA market isn’t ready to embrace EVs even if it SA developed because of just how the market itself isn’t ready. And that’s mainly because of the expensive EV-making commodities other than charging stations themselves tbh. Anyways, will be releasing another episode on this soon.
Ahahaha, that is true. But perhaps Taxi drivers themselves would be in electric taxis if we only had super-fast charging stations and highly efficient batteries. Of course, no taxi owner would buy such a taxi since it would be very expensive. But yeah Trevor, South Africa has a bright future ahead and a lot of interesting problems to solve.
But even if they were they would cost twice as much as what the cost abroad. Look at the iPhone for example . Costs $1000 in the US which is around R15000, but retails for almost R30000 in South Africa. 🤷🏾♂️
