I love my Degritter and used it to clean my roughly 2000 record collection without a a single issue. I will say that every record has a pre-wash in my spin clean before it goes into the Degritter for a heavy wash as you really need that physical brush contact to remove anything stuck on the surface of the record. But as someone who used to have a vacuum setup, the Degritter is hands down more effective and convenient. Love it!

Cool. Degritter factory is located in my little home town and good to see that they are doing fine and making good products. There is also vinyl pressing plant in my home town. Not bad for a city with a population of around 100 000.

The Degritter is definitely something to aspire to. I have a Spin Clean and it has SAVED some of my most precious records from having skips. I find cleaning records relaxing. I don't have the inventory TMR has though.

I have the original (mark 1) Degritter. Before buying, it was super hard for me to wrap my head around spending $3000 US for a record cleaning machine, when I had Pro-Ject VCS2 (a wet-vac style machine) that works well. But as soon as I bought it and started using it, my quality of life went up a few notches. It is soooo easy, put the record in the slot, push a button, and walk away. This is a game-changer for me, because my previous machine was a wet-vac style machine that required me to stand over the machine and interact with it during the whole time, as a result I didn't use it very often (I work long hours like many of you and don't want to spend an hour manually cleaning records after work, would rather use my time for listening.) With the Degritter, it's easy for me to clean a high volume of records with almost no effort on my part, other than removing the record from the sleeve to clean and putting it back in the jacket (in a new sleeve) when it's done. The Degritter has some smart features. It lets you choose how intensely you want the fan to dry the records - put it on high if you just want the record done quickly, or put it on low if you need the machine to run quietly and are willing to wait an extra 1.5 to 3 minutes for your record to be nice and dry. Or anything in between. Maintenance is easy, just rinse out the tank and filter after every 50 records (I do it after every 30, after seeing how dirty the filter gets). The Degritter has user upgradable firmware. The company has released a few firmware updates that have added features (and in the first year, worked out some minor bugs), it's easy to download them and install them on the unit. Lastly, the customer service experience is 5-star. You have a problem or a question? Email them and they'll write you back promptly; they actually read your email carefully and address the specific points you mention. Several Degritter owners had problems that the company could not solve, so the company sent a replacement machine at their own expense and paid to have the old machine sent back to them. Yes, these machines are hella expensive for most people. But if you can find a way to manage the cost, you will almost certainly be very, very happy. I have over 1000 records. Discogs estimates the value of my collection at around $40,000. Spending $3000 to easily maintain and protect my collection does not strike me as unreasonable. I know many of you have found cheaper solutions, and they are really good solutions. I like the Spin Clean followed by Humminguru solution. I like the Kirmuss ultrasonic machine and it does a great job for less than half the cost of a Degritter. But cleaning records with Kirmuss is very labor-intensive. Some people tolerate that well, or even consider it part of the ritual of collecting records. But for me I just wouldn't clean very many records if I have do more than a little work.

I don't have a degritter, own a huminguru. But the ability to set/forget and run a full cleaning cycle without any intervention makes things sooo much better. Cleaning records is so much more enjoyable since you can be doing other things. Maybe if I find a used degritter Id pick one up, would buy new if it was closer to $1600. But I know the small engineering/product team who built the product has a niche market and needs to make $..

I bought one about 2 weeks ago and I couldn't agree with you more. It really is a dream machine. The only thing is with a very dirty record you should prewash it first. It doesn't get the dead wax area very good. Maybe because of the water level setting. And also if you run that dirty record through the Degritter 2 or 3 times, the better it's going to sound. I really can't recommend it enough.

My initial thoughts about the Degritter when I first saw it were along the lines of; "It's f*ckin' stupid to spend this much $$$ on a record cleaner". Now that I know how good the Degritter works and just how "addictive" the hobby is, I've changed my tune. If you have hundreds of records, or high end gear that costs a fortune, the Degritter is justifiable. I certainly wouldn't play a filthy record on a $4,000 turntable that has a $2,500 cartridge and $3,500 phono preamp. ...and if I had gear that expensive, I wouldn't be cleaning my LPs on a $400 used machine either. ....but I don't have the type of gear or that many records. My entire phono stage cost $4,000 and I'm inching my way close to 150 LPs (I just started messing w/ vinyl in summer of 2023). I can't justify the purchase of a Degritter for myself. It's a Record Dr X for me...and I could only barely justify that purchase. Maybe in a decade when I have a thousand LPs, I'll have a nice new Degritter sittin' next to my shelving...

I couldnt afford one of those so i bought a spin clean and a humminguru. I wash the record with the spin clean first so it gets pretty clean and then run it through the humminguru. When the cleaning cycle is over they look immaculate. Im sure the degritter does an even better but with the spin clean and humminguru it only runs u about $600.

@@TooManyRecords i hear ya! the humminguru is an all in one cleaning and drying machine just like the degritter. Pop it in... push one button and 10 min later its immaculate and dry. Do you have a threshold of what kinds of records get cleaned this way? The cycles seem to take pretty long compared to the amount of records that you sell. I know that drying records with something like the Spin Clean takes longer than the cycle, but I usually clean like 10-20 records at a time so it ends up being faster!

To me the degritter is a luxury item. Most beneficial for record store owners and those with stupid amounts of money that can splurge on one. For me, my VPI 16.5 has served me well for several years. My collection has several used and primarily newly purchased records. Every one of them has been cleaned before playing and went into a new sleeve after playing. I’ll stick with this practice. It works for me.

In your opinion how would you rate this vs a Spin Clean? on a scale of 10 - if 0 is total trash and 10 is godlike tier where would you place both the Spin Clean and the Degritter? Just been thinking about upgrading in the near future :- )

@@PiecesofVinyl Sorry the Spin Clean is not a 1....closer to a 6 or 7... everyone has their own opinion which I respect...but I am confident if we did a blind test on many of these different cleaning options you would be very very surprised with the results...I have taken part in two of these needle drop testings and everyone in the room both times was shocked how well the Spin Clean stacked up against the competition sound wise....just my 2 cents
@PiecesofVinyl
@PiecesofVinyl Год назад
@@mccarthyd6603 We don't need to do a blind test - in fact the opposite is better - go look up videos on YT using a micro telescope to analyze the grooves. The spin clean alone can not get into the micron level grooves of a record nor can its brushes - even letting it soak - which would only be half the record at a time wouldn't do the job - and then your left with a number of other obstacles - removing the solution, rinsing and drying - cleaning is a multi step process where each step counter acts the last - even the degritter alone isn't enough for the best sonic results. But for the price of the spin clean vs. what it does - there are much better and CHEAPER options that give way better results - under the microscope. Vacuum cleaning is a better option vs. Spinclean and way cheaper with the VinylVac.
