Once I started playing Winston as a disruptor rather than an assassin, I started having way more success. He's meant to cause havoc, not to rack up kills.
It's only when you realize that being Winston is SUPPOSED to be a thankless job (ie low kills, no POTG, sacrifice yourself for distraction) that you can really start making plays. God I love this game.
so true! in lower rank it will be difficult to even get a few people to listen and commit with the main tank, let alone a decent Dva, Genji, Tracer, doom fist, since all of them require insane amount of mechanical skills, game sense, or both.
@@phannhat385 True. On the other hand, in lower ranks all you need is 1 or 2 players to coordinate with you and you're probably better off than the enemy team.
Winston is friggin awesome, been my main for over a month now. He is good on every map, and can high survivability if played right. He wrecks squishes, and creates havok. He can be diffucult with poor support, but a well supported Winston is nearly unstoppable. played a payload map yesterday as Winston and I was playing well but our team comp wasn't right. With 30 seconds left and not even near the first point, I said on the mic "I am doing everything I can as Winston, somebody has to change". I am not even sure who changed to what, but we went into overtime and we managed to push the cart to 3 points for the win. I spent 8:20 on objective with a 17 kill streak which indicates I did my job, but the lack of support early on made it near impossible.
For a Hero that doesn't require much mechanics, his primal rage is one of the hardest ult to master, I have now been consistently getting at least 1 kill with it.
@@sparkyspinz9897 Agreed. Primal is about disrupting the enemy formation. I can easily disrupt a dragon blade and a visor which has to be annoying for enemy dps. Getting kills is a bonus.( Which I do regularly get 2+man primal kills)
This is quality, really appreciate it. I have one question tough that always bothers me. I am a flex tank player in plat. Would you recommend to focus on playing just off or main tank or is it fine to play both roles? Sometimes i have the feeling that it might hinder my progress and that I should focus rather one of those two roles...but idk
Work on mastering a role first. Switching between playstyles can become a bit confusing, especially on lower ranks. Plus, if you master a role first (let's say main tank) you know what that main tank should be doing and what he is looking for, making your off tank support better. Hope this helped.
Amazing Winston guide. Dont forget the Winston jump+melee cancel combo. Gives good ole harambe alittle extra oomf on those dives. Also love that mistakes are acknowledged nd talked over on how to fix it. VERY NICE TOUCH 😤☝️

One healthy thing to keep in mind, even if you die whilst diving but manage to get at least one pick on the enemy support(ideally two would be great), you are doing such a favor for your team that it's just insane. A team of 5 with one tank down is way better then a team of 5 with at least one downed support. I started taking ranked games seriously and I shit you not, in one day I went a 17 game win streak in ranked, basically going from 1600 SR to 2300ish SR or even 2400. I love Winston, he has an amazing potential, you just need a decent support and you're golden. I would definitely recommend learning him in dept and utilizing his kit properly.
Definitely not as experienced as other players. But I do find a lot of success in counter diving with Winston on defence. Harassing the cart and jumping back to support the back line. When you engage with reaper be sure to have your jump off cool down to jump back with healers. Pretty much never do 1v1 against reaper. Force him to engage with your friends. I do realize this was 2years ago hopefully you’re enjoying OW2
I kickass with him on KOTH, but struggle on 2CP and hybrid unless i have a rein or orisa with me, wish the gameplay was not KOTH and hybrid instead :( but thank you nontheless
That actually was super useful, now role quel is a thing I’ve been tanking and Winston does really well against sigma. My issue was jumping in ontop and trying to get a solo kill versus going in for distraction. Thank you for the video!
This is very helpful but the problem for me is that there are so few opportunities to actually dive, like when the enemy team is all grouped up but our dps is not with me. Any tips?
These videos help me a lot between all my friends I’m kinda like the Leader I say the strategy call the dive pick the team comp say if we play aggressive or defensive make the calls and tell my friends how to improve
it takes most teams exactly 6 seconds to kill a winston who leaps in and bubbles. thankfully leap recharges in 5 seconds. all you need to do is to leap in, hold down left click, count to 3, and leap back out towards your healers. reap that constantly and you win. easy.
I love zoning out healers. Or just a random Widow type shit. You may not die, but as a tank, I will strip you of all your meaningful interactions with the team. Just buying time for my team to have the best numbers situation they can get. If I can get a 1 on 2 situation on me, they are fighting a 5v4. I like that.
i love Chrono and his content, he's a great player. learnt a lot from him and would love to see other creators on the channel (Harbleu, Super, Kabaji, Dafran for example)

@@SpookyTurnzz gold is one massive shit hole with all the people that transfered over from COD or other shooters and just got placed in gold, there are some really good players in gold, but they just get over shadowed from the people who want a high KD
It comes with playing the game and constantly being put in those situations. Its something you can proactively try to get better at but at the end of the day you have to play more to get there. Sorry if that sounds confusing
Shangfeihong Cao she can be if you dive with a dva sombra combo. Dva can negate one of her key abilities in her bash combo, and sombra cancels her inspire. She becomes an ez pick.
@@joshuanoon4070 actually inspire is one of the only passives in the game not cancelled by hack or emp, and dva wont cancel anything since she has a melee weapon, the only think dva can do that's effective against brig is use her micro missiles to burst down her armor or her personal shield
Yo. I'm Dirk lol when you dont want to play orisa and reinhardt doesnt really work. Winston is better rn than reinhardt if played well with the only real exception being goats and itll especially be the case in 2-2-2.
Kinda funny a ton of comments say he is just proving you need good teammates, he did all sorts of solo plays, and openly admits when it's his fault he dies because he wasn't in the LOS of his Anna. Teammates don't effect the tips he gave here, you don't need good teammates to be good.
Thank you but I’m in platinum and I call out like every thing that i do, and nobody responds. I go in the back line and get no help at all I get lots of metals. And I always have a plan, back up plan and strategy. I know when to engage and disengage to. Is it me or my team
The thing is if I tried that then my ana would be sat in spawn and my tracer would use all 3 warps into all 6 enimes and die then rins and repeat that process till we loese
I'll call for dive comp on a dive friendly map, pick monkey, ask for a Dva, get it, then ask her to dive same targets with me, in order to utilize her Defense Matrix, and she just ignores me and does her own thing. No bro I'm also a winston player but I disagree with ur use of primal, instead of using it on the enemy team I would rather use it on the nanoblade, it's way more effective and he won't be able to kill ur teammates. You gotta trust me bro on this one, would you rather give him 4 kills or none at all? bcus he'll have a hard time killing you anyways once again trust Me use ur primal rage against a nanobalde/blading genji he won't be able to kill any of ur teammates!! I'd say it's worth trading ur ult for 2 of theirs that too their most powerful ult. Lemme know it turns out in ur next game 🎮
Please stop making guides for specific heroes, at this point people know these basic stuff and are in desperate need of knowing how, not to just play 1 hero but to also play the whole role and which hero is best for each map... so I would highly suggest you start making guides for: Main Tanks, Off Tanks, Main Supp etc. As I think this would benefit a lot more players especially in the mid rank scene a lot more. Other than that this video was pretty good and I’m glad a channel is still making guides!
