Many thanks for putting this up- I have been searching youtube for years to see my golfing hero bag his biggest victory. I was in college during the tourney and forgot about how close the scores were going to the back 9. Amazing it was his last victory on tour- From 97 to 01, only Tiger was a better player. I always thought DD would be one of the greats, but for a few short years, he was as good as there was in golf.
I agree totally, I loved his swing. Now I'm hoping someone will put up the final round for the 2009 US Open someday. Can't believe he almost took that.
@@Twentysixsixsix I called off work that Monday bc the weather at Bethpage delayed the final round. Tripled hole 3 or 4 but that 3 birdie stretch from 14-16, I was going fucking bonkers. Maybe 1-2 yards short on 17 or it was gonna be another bird. Bogeyed it and glover won by 2. The 98 masters and 01 masters are a tough watch. DD told us that summer in 98 that former Augusta chairman Jack Stephens?? came up to him after he finished his round, shook his hand and congratulated him. David was like I haven’t won, jack then said no one birdies 17 and 18. Well Mark did.
@@TG-tv2xi I did see the highlights of the 2009 US Open and that triple seemed really unfair. To get stuck in the lip of the bunker like that. You're right about 1998 Masters too. I used to have that on tape and would watch it all the time. It's also rough that his peak matched with Tiger's. What Tiger did might be the greatest feat in all of sports: 7 majors out of 11 between 99'-02'. Jack's best stretch was 7 out of 21. Maybe Duval can tear up the senior tour...
He would have won if that hadn't happened, I was there, watched him birdie 1st, then walked up 2nd to see his tee shot, by time he walked by us wheels had fallen off, it took him about 5 holes to get composed again
I got to play with David Duval in a junior golf tournament when he was 14 and I was 16. He had a big growth spurt and I think he was already 6 ft tall and about 180 lbs. It was pretty intimidating playing with him because he was so long off the tee and driving Par 5's in two. I think he shot around 77 or 80 that day. He was still a mere mortal.
The days when we wore proper trousers,Tiger looking like a galleon in a gale,lots of room unlike the skimpy ankle-nipping,ball-crushing things they make today.
