The Chiefs and Raiders rivalry goes all the way back to the days of the old AFL, when two fledgling franchises struck a deal and one team decisively came out on top.
The Raiders and Chiefs truly hate one another, It's a bad blood rivalry, Raiders-Broncos, or Raiders-Chargers are intense games, But Raiders-Chiefs is #1 in the AFC west.
@@teresamichel4807 I'm sorry Teresa I miss spoke or missed typed there it has been fun and will continue to be fun hating. This coming from a born and raised Kansas City Man here Red Kingdom Sound Off
Denver is always a good game. But every year, Raiders week is special. Even when both teams sucked. Especially when both teams sucked. When the Raiders come to Arrowhead, or the Chiefs go to Oakland, or LA, or Oakland, and now Vegas, you know it'll be a fight. 119 regular season matchups and 3 post-season, with a record of 67 wins, 53 losses, and 2 ties. We love hating the Raiders.
That's me and my friends, we're divided cause some of us like Chiefs, the other like Raiders. This is how we always get with each other when it comes to Chiefs vs Raiders, Me (a Cheifs fan): "FUCK YOU GABRIEL, WE CAN KICK YOUR ASS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!! My friend Gabriel (a Raiders fan):"PROVE IT YOU SACK OF SHIT, WE'LL DESTROY YOU!!" Me: "Hey wanna go hangout downtown with the others after this game?" Gabriel: "Yea man."
It's one of those rivalries that will never die. It doesn't matter how many wins the chiefs have over the raiders. It's always gonna be an important game for both teams
My favorite EVER rivalry in NFL . Used to love as a kid when Chiefs- Raiders were late game. Always a fight in 60s-70s. But this clip showed none of the skirmishes or bench clearing brawls
@@GGE47 Len Dawson was the Chiefs QB, but he didn't call any of his own plays, 65 Toss, power, trap was sent in by Hank Stram along with every other play the Chiefs offense ran that day. The Vikings were favored by 12 and the over/under was 39. Otis Taylor was a more MVP than Dawson, or even Jan Stenerud but Dawson had 2 things the others didn't have, he was white and he was an American.
@@davidcobb2693, so was Bart Starr given the MVP over Max McGee because he was white and Max was..wait a minute..Max was white..that's right! Max 7 catches, one of them a circus reception of a pass thrown way behind him where he had to reach back over the d.b. and hook it with his hand and wrist, for over 130 yards, but as THEY mostly ALWAYS DO, IT, the MVP GOES TO THE QB. How many other passes did Taylor catch that day, and other than the big one, for how many yards? Johnny Robinson who is gasp!! white, recovered a fumble and had a pick in SBOWL IV, why aren't you bitching about him, SJW? Oh, did RUSSELL WILSON call his plays in SB 48, slick Democrat? Spare us your drivel. You don't know what you are talking about, as usual.
Loved big Buck Buchanan! He came out to our high school and did an inspiring talk on staying in school, studying hard, avoiding drugs and being a good quality person LONG before any of those programs were common among pro athletes! Thank you Big Buck! RIP and hopefully I'll see you in God's Heaven where I hope our Lord will allow me to go back to my days at old Municipal Stadium and sit in the Wolfpack bleachers one more time. Long Live the AFL!!!
i have been a raiders fan since day one august 1960. when their colors were gold and black. they were going to be the oakland seniors. yes there is a great rivalry between the chiefs and raiders. but let me say this. the rivalry between the raiders and the steelers is historic. these two teams hate each other with a passion. like lenny dawson said. their games with the raiders were wars. the games between the raiders and steelers were nuclear wars. i am a raiders fan, a collector of raiders memorabilia. and a raiders historian. there will never be another team like THE OAKLAND RAIDERS. pride and poise, commitment to excellence, pro footballs winningest team, the will to win. and of course, JUST WIN BABY. RIP, al, stabler, blanda, tatum, thomas, upshaw, dalby, and many other raider greats. thank you for all the great games you played in gentleman. god bless you.
What's funny is that Buck Buchanan was such an unstoppable player that the Raiders went and drafted Gene Upshaw specifically to block him. Funny how these things end up coming around. Even today decades later hearing all these stories and watching old game footage of the Raiders and the Chiefs gets you pumped like it's still the 60s or 70s.
I had a retro Buchanan Jersey this year for the game opener and the ring ceremony you should have seen everybody in the stadium they were looking like what the fuc you can see like the difference between the real Chiefs and Just the Mahomes era 😂 because I got so many who is he but the ones that knew they were like you got that man I'm like I know😎 what I really liked was sold-out stadium and I was the only one with their Jersey.
I became a Chiefs fan when they signed Mike Garrett out of USC. I loved the game on Oct. 20 1968. The Chiefs had only one receiver dressed, attempted only two passes, and rolled over the Raiders 24-10 behind their excellent offensive line.
The same teams that were in the division in the AFL are the same exact to this day in the NFL.. Raiders Chiefs Broncos Chargers.. That's the reason these teams have such a thick rivalry.. They have been beating each other since the beginning
When I was growing up in Kansas I was raised on Royals Baseball Chiefs Football And I was Raised on Missouri Tigers College Sports since that is where my family went to school so I know all about rivalry games Royals and Cardinals or Royals and Detroit Missouri Tigers and The Kansas Jayhawks and of course The Chiefs and the Raiders
Neil Smith said he would NEVER play for the Raiders and he never did Marty Scottenheimer said he would never coach for the Raiders at ANY price and he never did. When Marcus Allen went to play for the Chiefs Raider fans pretty much disowned him. The bad blood was REAL.
Marcus Allen joined the chiefs after getting fucked by AL DAVIS. That was the beginning of the end for AL DAVIS. RAIDERS were never the same after that.
I watched these games growing up during the late '60s on up... this type of really tough, competitive sport. I'm 63 yrs old now, and I find the intensity of these games is gone. Today it's more of a business sense of things ($$) than anything else!! Still, those were the days! :)
Boy, those three Broncos SUPER BOWL CROWNS, those 10 DENVER AFC WEST TITLES, and 7 WILD HORSES AFC THRONES since you last won your SUPER BOWL, really smart, don't they RAISINS fan?
There was a lot of bitterness in Kansas City when Charlie Findley who owned the KC Athletics MLB team moved them to Oakland--after that Kansas City hated absolutely anything that had the word "Oakland" in it--including the Raiders
@@PresidentGas1 Charlie FINLEY relocated the A's to Oakland in 1968, the 1969 MLB season was already completed, any Kansas City hatred should have been directed at Finley, but no one ever said anyone in KC was smart enough to figure out that Oakland didn't steal their beloved LOSER baseball team!
@@PresidentGas1 The rivalry began in 1963 but the Chargers and their fans were bitter because Al Davis left the Chargers coaching staff to become the Raiders Head Coach starting in 1963, transforming the '62 1-13 Raiders into a legitimate Western division contender, 10-4 in '63 good for second place in the AFL West. The Raiders swept KC in '63 that included Oakland's first ever win in KC, a 22-7 dominating performance, KC managed to gain only 83 yards rushing and Lenny the great completed 6 of 25 passes for 49 yards, NO touchdowns and 2 INT's, the Chiefs as a hole ( I left off the w intentionally ), ran only 43 plays on offense amassing only 61 yards of total offense, Oakland sacked 16 in red 6 times for 71 yards lost leaving the Chiefs with MINUS 22 Net passing yards.
@@davidcobb2693 Not to mention Davis became the AFL Commissioner which may or may not have rubbed Lamar the wrong way ..... I don't recall. Didn't the Chiefs beat the Raiders in the AFL championship game to play the Pack in the 1st Super Bowl ?
Frank Youell field… which is now Laney college…prior to the Oakland coliseum. As a young boy growing up in Oakland l could see the field from the Nimitz freeway… Thanks for the memories.
I remember all these games . I watched every single game & went to a few of them when Oakland was playing af Frank Youell Field. I grew up in Oakland & watched the coliseum being built. I had season tickets during the 70s. Long live the Oakland Raiders from 1963-1980 !
As a Chiefs fan, I love this rivalry. However, is it bad to say that I enjoyed it more back when defensive players were allowed to get away with more? Obviously, I don’t want players to get hurt, but the hatred and the big nasty hits I think are what made this rivalry even more fun to watch.
These were the most anticipated games of the year. Both, Kansas City and Oakland were in the same division. The two most talented teams in the NFL. These two teams were in the first two Super Bowls. Kansas City 18 All NFL players on their team, including the punter and the field goal kicker. These were the hardest hitters in the league too. Incredible football!
One time I went to California wearing my KC Chiefs hoodie (the red one) . Have no intention of offending anybody there . I'm just proud to be a fan. And now, I'm super proud of them... 🙋more than anyone can think of !!! Go Chiefs !!! (Peace and respect with the Raiders' ...you've got my relatives there 😊.)
Funny how when it becomes “Raider Week”, the only footage they show from this rivalry was when it was actually a rivalry. Hype doesn’t create a rivalry, hate does, which is why it was a rivalry back in the 60’s and early 70’s.
Chiefs fans are Raiders fans twice a year: When the Raiders play the Broncos. Raiders fans are Chiefs fans twice a year: When the Chiefs play the Broncos.
Ben threw in a lot of cheap shots whenever he could. His delayed hit on Dawson saved the game for Oakland and made him famous for having a rule named after him.
@@davidcobb2693 Yep, he was instigating. Davidson knew that doing that would start a fight, and then offsetting penalties would wipe out the big play by the Chiefs.
And from 1963 to 1985, the raiders were pro footballs winningest organization, including going to 12 conference championship games, including five in a row from 1973 to 1977, during that stretch.
@@AmEricAnL27 Yup. NBC. The game brought to us "in living color". Curt Gowdy lending us his Wyoming accent. Fields that resembled the Maginot Line. And intense rivalries. 1966 thru 1969 was a glorious time for the ol' AFL.
The sad part about this is it's over! Having been a Raider fan all those years, there was never a better time to watch football. Listening to Curt Gowdy an Al DeRogotis (sp), call those games was magical. Now in a time where the NFL has all but forgotten the fan, the Raiders are gone. Moved to Las Vegas. My memories of all the great Raiders will forever be in Oakland. A Raider fan no more. But it was fun while it lasted.
This rivalry needs its own hour long documentary. Mich Ohio; Alabama Auburn a few got theirs. Heck Catholics vs Convicts is an ESPN doc about Notre Dame v Miami that dont even exist anymore they don't play. CHIEFS RAIDERS NEEDS ONE. Where are you NFL Films, ESPNFilms, HBO (They did OSUvMich) ; Rivalry Docs are endlessly rewatchable.
It's fun for my family, being from Arkansas, the Chiefs and Cowboys were the teams my area pulled for, I live roughly halfway between the two cities of Kansas City and Dallas. I have cousins that live in California, product of the Dust Bowl era, we split on being Chief and Raider fans, but its all good, we still have Thanksgiving dinner together when we visit.
I DESPISE red & yellow together, they stole Ronald McDonald's uniform. Ketchup & mustard. It's over for 'em now! P. Mahomes will get a huge contract & that'll be it. Just like the Packers 🖤🖤🖤 #RN4L
The “Oakland Raiders” didn’t like anyone. When they played in the Oakland Coliseum win, loose or draw they would fight the opponents and the fans would attack visitors just so the world knew we don’t like you. On many occasions the riot squads and national guard would have to be brought in to try and keep the peace. As a child I remember watching in black and white grown men trying to rip each other’s heads off and everyone bled from the confrontation. Pittsburgh was built similarly and gave just as good as they got. This film need more than just the snippets they’re showing but a whole series with each and every team the Raiders played by the decades. That was football! 6:45
Notice the great Emmitt Thomas' (58 Career Interceptions - 937 Career Interception Return Yards - 673 Career Kickoff Return Yards) spiking the football after scoring, probably from one of those interception? Also, his open-field tackle on a receiver...Hits like most of those viewed on this video would get players suspended and fined today. Just a few of Emmitt Thomas's career stats, and he had to wait decades before induction into the NFL HOF...pitiful. Sportswriters (some) are the worst.
not to mention Charlie Finley moving the KC baseball team to Oakland which also left a bitter taste to KC Athletics fans and a rivalry between the 2 cities
One of the most violent rivalries in the league. I may hate the Patriots, but I hate the Raiders 100x more. Love learning the history of both of these teams
That last clip showing George Blanda, number 16 for the Raiders, being sacked and left on the ground, put him out of the game with a concussion. I actually watched that game live! 😉
for old school Raider fans this is by far the most hated team. The chiefs Raiders wars of the 60's and early 70's were highly anticipated. Both teams had multiple hall of famers and great fan bases. The Raiders would have destroyed Minnesota in the Super Bowl if they'd beaten the Chiefs but they were so overconfident that the Chiefs stunned them in Oakland in the AFC championship.
Cotton Davidson had 11,760 passing yards for his entire career and Patrick Mahomes has already passed 10,000 passing yards and he's only on his 3rd year starting.
off season they didn't hate each other so much. buck buchanan, ben davidson and several other chief and raider players appeared in the football sequence in the movie MASH (1970).
@1:00...Bob Gretz gives his reason for what makes a great rivalry, then with his first example, shoots his own reason down lol. What sometimes makes a rivalry is simple hatred.
You wanna talk about a brutal rivalry, look no further than the raiders and Chiefs. It got so bad that you could consider it a blood feud, those games got intense.
Didn't set the raiders back that much for very long.....the raiders kept winning the next two decades and the chiefs not so much.....now....nineties until now are a different story haha.....I have a feeling the rivalry is about to actually become real again.
Nah, doubt it...when Lamonica, Old Man Willie, Big Ben Davidson, Warren Wells came on board they weren't looking to amp it on the origin. Maybe a History fact, but not an Origin. Cause Al does not lose sleep in those days.
I miss the rivalry that we had with Oakland...Those games meant something to the communities. It was about the players AND the fans. I can't help feeling sorry for Oakland - it's like the owners ripped out the soul and moved the body to Las Vegas...sad.
A very highly interesting factual video of both franchises hard work and dedication towards success current score RAIDERS 3 the little Kingdom that thought it could be 2 The one thing I learn it's better to be an original team from California than a unwanted from Texas !
The Oakland franchise almost folded in the early 60s due to a lack of interest in the AFL in the Bay area. Al Davis at one point got a loan for $400K from then Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson just to stay afloat. At one point Raider players themselves were recruited to go door to door in Oakland trying to sell tickets to their games
Welp.... Became a Chiefs fan in 1990. I was 13. Chiefs vs Raiders H2H record fr 1990-prsnt? (44-19) Chiefs lead Raiders in last +30yrs. Chiefs literally went (19-3) in the 1990s vs Raiders. Most games I've seen @Arrowhead was vs Raiders. My first Chiefs Playoff games @Arrowhead was vs Raiders in 1991 season AFC Wildcard game. Art Shell decided start Todd Maranovich that game. Chiefs won 10-6 in a snowstorm/Ice storm VERY COLD day.
And my 31 years of life I've hated the Raiders all my life to the point I can't even remember why I don't like them anymore and didn't even know where it started this honestly explains everything my mama don't like them my dad don't like them my grandpa didn't like them my grandma didn't like them remember when i was a kid we would fight them in arrow head after the game didn't matter who won if the Raiders are in town of fight comes with it.
As a Raider fan I have to root for the Chefs because I HATE the Steelers way more and do NOT want them in the Super Bowl again. My favorite color is red so I can handle it. Though the whole Marcus Allen Marty Ball thing still pisses me off.
for the most part, certainly not completely, if you were to somehow poll the chargers, broncos, and chiefs what team do they want to beat every year, i think the answer would predominately be the "raiders". even as far back as the mid 60s.
Jonathan Taylor Yeah, I’ve never liked the Raiders & I despise the broncos. But right now, I hate the Patriots. Actually, I hate the fans, to be exact. There is nothing more I’d love than to see the smiles wiped from their smug faces.
