Catholic Answers well done again! Nice, short video on the Origin of the Rosary. I have to get the book you mentioned, Champions of the Rosary by Donald Calloway.

Fun fact 1) The word Bead comes from the Old English verb bede* (Beh-duh), which means to ask for or to pray (think of rhe archaic "I bid thee...") 2) A few years ago archaeologists at Lindisfarne discovered a string of beads around the neck of a monk in an 8th Century Burial. The 12 beads were fashioned from salmon vertebrae and have been interpreted as prayer beads. 3) *St Bede was a near contemporary of of said monk, but lived at Jarrow monastery, not too far away. He wrote two tracts: -The Ecclesiastical History of the English People -On the Reckoning of Time The former is still in print and in the latter he sense checked classical Greek calculations of the circumference of the earth and dwscribed it as "round, not like a shield, but like a ball" St Bede is now entombed in Durham Cathedral and was made a Doctor of the Church for those works and his contribution to the dating of Easter. He also popularised the use of BC/AD reckoning. Love and peace to all my Roman Catholic Siblings in Christ, from a British Trad High Church Anglican.
St Cuthbert and St Bede are Catholic...not part of the government used abd abused state ecclesial community called Anglicanism. No thinking person should be an Anglican and Gavin Ashenden should be listened too and emulated. Chaplain to the Queen and ex "pseudo bishop" of the C of E as he describes himself. My own family left the C of E in the 1930's. It is far more British to be Catholic.
And that I have just finished Re-reading part one of Fr Calloway's monumental book "Champions of the Rosary". Go for this book to truly appreciate the gift that the Holy Rosary is. I am now understanding why Mother Mary called her name "Our Lady of the Rosary" at Fatima.
@@ji8044 that’s not what the Catholic Church means by meditation, sir. Go back with the catechism of the Catholic Church and then come back to me. Meditation is one of the forms of prayer in the Catholic Church. And it’s not the meditation that Buddhist do either
Yes. It is contemplative prayer. See, CCC 2724. "Contemplative prayer is the simple expression of the mystery of prayer. It is a gaze of faith fixed on Jesus, an attentiveness to the Word of God, a silent love. It achieves real union with the prayer of Christ to the extent that it makes us share in his mystery."
St Dominic was predestined to get the Rosary for millions of years, owing to the fact that he is receiving a rosary from Mary and St Francis is receiving the cord of holy poverty from the Infant Jesus in the miraculous image of Our Lady of Las Lejas in Columbia. The image looks like it was painted by a renaissance master, but is actually a natural rock formation with the image going 1 meter deep into the rock.
Want protection ? Ephesians 6:10-18 New Catholic Bible The Christian Warfare[a] 10 Put On the Armor of God. Finally, find your strength in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the deceit of the devil. 12 For we are not struggling against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, the powers, and the cosmic rulers of this present darkness, and against the spirits of evil in the heavens. 13 Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that you will be able to hold fast on the evil day and to hold your ground with all your strength. 14 Stand firm, then, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness clothing you, 15 and with your feet shod in zeal to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances, hold in your hand the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation as well as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Be Vigilant in Prayer. In all of your prayers and entreaties, pray always in the Spirit. To that end, keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

The Rosary and Liturgy of the Hours is two different things. They had a poor man Biveray. They say 150 psalms and say an Our Father after each psalm. But a lot of people couldn’t read and afford a book. So they gave them beads to keep track of each Our Father after the psalms was said. The Hail Mary was years later when the Marine Devotions started and the Rosary we have today was reformed by the Pope. Saint Dominic did not come up with the Rosary we have today. Mary gave him a set of prayers to give and say for the people. Nobody knows what those set of prayers are but I am guessing the The Lord’s Prayer and the Jesus Prayer 150 times.
The problem is how people gave up saying 150 Our Father to say 150 Hail Mary and then the Rosary ? I always fear this exchange Our Father -> Hail Mary is a deception.@@crazyfaith77

Of course it does. That's why Jesus and the apostles never were to pray it or teach it. For that matter there is account of Mary herself praying it or teaching others to pray it. I find absolutely amazing that all these teachings that these apologists say existed even before Jesus, nobody thought to record any of them in the scriptures. Binding and loosening authority of the church is in scripture. Where on earth you get to have to read everything in scripture to be true. If you answered It is not in scripture that came from martin luther you would be correct.
@@zacharyvandress1120 yes, the authority to bind and loose does come from scripture. But it doesn't belong to the roman catholic church. THE CHURCH in scripture IS NOT the church of scripture. Scripture does not mention a particular religion or denomination. Your church is the one who has labeled itself as THE CHURCH. When Christ returns, he is not coming for the catholic church, the Mormon church or the protestant church. The church in scripture is the BODY of believers. That is who Christ is coming for. If you read the scriptures instead of listening to Rome you might learn something. So no, not everything has to be in the bible if you are proposing that everything goes. That is why you can't disprove what the mormons, the Jehovah's and everybody else. Are you proposing that anybody can say what ver and that their doctrines etc are what everybody should believe. Those religions, like catholicism all say they received added revelation from God. So please disprove it for me. The Mormons say they got some golden tablets from God, disprove that for me. Keeping in mind what you said, that not everything has to be in the bible.
@rbnmnt3341 what do you think the early church was if not catholic. It was the only christian church until martin luther. You protestants make up your own history
@@zacharyvandress1120 the early church was the catholic or universal church. NOT the ROMAN Catholic church. Early but not during Christ. Ignatius didn't come up with the word catholic til about 120. The next problem you have is that there is NO BIBLICAL evidence that Jesus, Mary or any of the apostles EVER believed, taught or practiced ANYTHING ROMAN catholic. Nothing that the modern church curtly teaches. Jesus or peter never taught the rosary or prayed it. Jesus never said pray to make or that the way to himwas through his mother. In fact he said just the opposite. He said pray TO THE FATHER. Jesus sain " no man can come to me UNLESS THE FATHER who sent me draw him." Where does that say anything about Mary? Where is there any account of Peter presiding over a mass, teaching transubstantiation, saying that the way to Jesus is through Mary? When did Jesus or peter say that the church has sole authority to interpret scripture? When did Jesus or anyone, anywhere in scripture refer to peter as pope? Why did peter refer to himself as a pope? Peter calls himself a servant, an apostle of Christ, a fellow elder and a man. He called himself a man to Cornelius. Cornelius fell to the ground in front of peter. Peter then helped Cornelius up and told him get up, I am just a man. Are those the words of actions of a pope? There is nothing, absolutely NOTHING catholic about any of them. Mary either. When did she say pray to her? Or go through her to get to her Son? Your church just can't make them catholic. They are ignoring that part of history. They waited til they had all passed, claimed they were catholic and just made peter a pope. Your church also uses Matthew 16 to say that it somehow says roman catholic church, that peter is somehow a pope or that he is the rock that the church is built on. All lies.
Just feels weird cause it’s like Mary is made to be the focal point so much, like she’s the main character while God & Jesus are the supporting characters.
No, its the mysteries that are the focal point. Each mystery is also associated with a spiritual "fruit" like humility or obedience. So we meditate on the mystery, we ask Mary to pray for us (that we would develop the spiritual fruits in our lives).
With all due respect, your perspective is off the mark. To meditate on the mysteries of the rosary is to meditate on the life of Jesus from Mary's perspective. And don't forget that it is God who gave Mary her role in our salvation: "I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed."
Mary at Fatima told us to pray the Rosary. People are ignoring her directive and praying the Divine Mercy chaplet, Listen to your Mother like Jesus listened to his mother at the wedding in Cana. Only pray the the divine mercy after you have prayed all three mysteries in one day. Millions of LESS ROSARIES are being prayed beacuse of this error.
Countless saints and Popes have promoted the Rosary and Marian consecration. The battle of Lepanto was won through its recitation. At Fatima where a public miracle was witnessed by over 70,000 people, Our Lady told the children to pray the Rosary every day. She has said the same at every other apparition that has been deemed “worthy of belief”. It is beyond belief that a Catholic would say “as Catholics we don’t need to believe in the Rosary” or “we don’t need to say the Rosary”. Every single Catholic should have a devotion to Our Lady! She is Mother of the Church and our spiritual mother. May God forgive you for your words of detraction which I can only think serve to foster and promote the ill guided idea that we must downplay everything that the Protestants object to. We know why they object! Because she crushes the head of the serpent. Disappointed in you.

Mary had nothing to do with it Jerome got many things wrong on his Layin version. This is just one of many. REV 12. never says it is Mary. John saw a vision as a woman. What this means is the vision represents something else and not a woman. John says this vision has the sun, moon, and stars surrounding her. this is taken from Genesis 37. It is in Jacob's dreams these are first mentioned. The sun and moon are Jacob and Rachel. In one dream his brothers are what shafts bowing to him and in the other they are the stars. In REV. 12 The woman represents Israel the nation. Sun and moon represent Jacob and Rachel and the stars are the sons or the 12 tribes of Israel. REV. is not a history book. It is about prophecy and the end times. Mary has nothing to do with the end times, Israel does. Chapter 12 is about how God will protect Israel from Satan. None of it has to do with Mary.

the old testament was fulfilled in christ. the new covenant is not like the old covenant, it does not live on thru the church, and "taken to new heights". the practices of judaism are not our examples to follow, the sacrifices, the priesthood, all done away with at the cross. "150 psalms reduced down to 150 hail marys"..i laughed out loud. how about rather, knowing that Christ is in you 24/7, praying without ceasing, a new and living way, not ordered and scripted but walking in the Spirit. so, stand fast in the liberty by which christ has set you free, and do not become entangled again with a yoke of bondage. come to jesus and he will give you rest. or you can become "a champion of the rosary". you choose.

There is no tradition of using prayer beads in Judaism. The earliest mention of the rosary in literature is at least 1,000 years after the death of Jesus. The Greek Orthodox Church, the earliest Christian Church per se, has no rosary tradition at all.
