A lot of people have misconceptions about the Catholic Church. Catholic Answers is a media company that answers questions about what the Church really teaches with apologetics. We are the largest organization of our kind. Our Mission
Catholic Answers is a media ministry that serves Christ by explaining and defending the Catholic faith. We help Catholics grow in their Faith, we bring former Catholics home, and we lead non-Catholics into the fullness of the truth.
Catholic Answers works to ensure our content is faithful to the Magisterium. Our staff apologists have decades of practice in apologetics, and several hold advanced degrees in theology and philosophy. We maintain a broad list of associates (clergy and laymen) who are experts in the fields of liturgy, history, bioethics, theology, philosophy, canon law, and more. We have close friendships with members of the Church hierarchy across the United States and in Rome.
Accents are definitely contagious. In Indiana you've got the standard "Midwest radio news" accent, along with the "blue collar redneck" accent, and a lot of people sort of switch back and forth subconsciously, depending on social context. I was a linguistics student, but I'd never really considered this from a phonetics perspective. I considered it more or less like German, where there's one "standard" version and multiple dialects
Thank you, as always, Jimmy. I’d love to poke the “Opportunistic Attack Theory” to see how it can be defended. It’s hard to see how all of these propositions could be true simultaneously: 1. Most people who become possessed did not open themselves to possession by doing something wrong. 2. You are unlikely to be possessed unless you are invoking demons. 3. People who invoke demons are doing something wrong that opens the door to possession. None of these are direct quotes (because I didn’t have the transcript), but I tried to present each claim charitably. From (2) it would seem to follow: 4. Most people who become possessed opened the door to possession by invoking demons. From (4) and (3) it would follow: 5. Most people who become possessed opened themselves to possession by doing something wrong. But (5) contradicts (1); they cannot both be true. Also, I wonder why only invoking demons is dangerous if the “Legal Right Theory of Possession” is false. I could see why invoking demons would be dangerous on the LRTP, because invoking someone would seem to grant them a right to respond, but-because you are not denying that granting such rights is possible, nor that it’s dangerous, but only that it doesn’t explain all cases of possession-I’m less puzzled by your denial of LRTP than by the prima facie contradiction entailed in the three propositions above.
As a cradle Catholic and a chiropractor (Palmer graduate) for 27 years, I can confidently say that chiropractic is not a scam and there is plenty of evidence that chiropractic is effective for neuro-spinal conditions. Now, chiropractic is not a new age development but it can make the chiropractor become a pipe smoker (now, where did I leave my crystals?...🙃).
Hi Josh from Brisbane Australia Your story is similar to John Bergsma. You guys are the new hope of the Church as the stuff that guys like you, Scott Hahn, Fr Don Calloway etc unlock, is the Holy Spirit renewing the face of the earth when so much failure occurs elsewhere. God bless. Definitely red pill stuff.
I remember reading that bit of scripture and thinking everyone had lied to me my whole life... Seems like that happens a lot while reading Scripture, that it doesn't say what everyone kept telling me it does.
Apologetics imply that God is controversial. God is not controversial nor is He "difficult" to defend. On the contrary, the Devil is impossible to defend. I don't debate unbelievers and those who love deception. I make points and testify to the truth. I choose to rest in God's victory. It's the sinners who are fighting an impossible battle, the battle to dethrone God. Such is the Devil's aspiration. By the way, Catholics are idolaters. You shall not worship to idols. Exodus 20:4, Revelation 19:10
A person called another Satan for doing evil thing or as joke. I never heard anyone called some one son of Satan. God called gods those who has his spirit like prophet. If god call some one is god. Is god a lier? God himself called you all are gods. When single person look at it . God call him/her god. What sense Jewish people or those day they are using name is question? Since Satan is used as name what is name used for god. I am that I am.
The gospels may well contain some factual information between them. As far as people and places that really did exist, and maybe the overall gist of things that really were said and done. But as far as the supernatural stuff goes, I don't think asking for proof is unreasonable. I believe that God could easily provide us indisputable proof, if he felt that we needed it.
I had an argument against a protestant about intercession of the saints, I said that prayers to the saint was alien to them because they removus scriptura the book of tobit before they sola scriptura the bible. He became silent.
I did 12 years at catholic school and never missed mass until I was 15- We were told we could pray to Mary- but not in a way she could grant wishes. It was more like she was gods receptionist. So we could pray to Mary and basically ask her to pass our prayers on to god. Put a post it note on his things to do. Put in a good word for us. And as she’s female and a mother- there was an assumption she may have been slightly more approachable on some subjects. I don’t believe in any of it now- But I was in the Legion of Mary. ( we had a very grumpy priest who had to run our group-in his lunch hours- a group of about 6 little 9 year old girls. It always felt like he was begrudging being there- which made sense years later when we heard what he had been up to with the boys, so it was decided it was best they made him hang out with little girls in his lunch hour rather than wandering the schoolyard when there were rumours afoot. He was later charged but took the cowards way out rather than give his victims justice) But the Legion of Mary was the first committee role I had- as the treasurer. We took minutes and had an agenda and prayer lists and a small smooth of money for the biscuits we served at our meeting. And it was alllll about Mary!
Protestants "pray to the Saints" all the time, they just refuse to acknowledge it, and bring in verbal distinctions. For example, if they pray through Scripture, they are essentially praying "with" the human author. Same if they meditate on a Wesley, Whitfield, Edwards, etc, sermon. Likewise, when they watch an RC Sproul sermon on YT (though they may have to wait a few centuries before he's in the company of Saints 😂😂😂)
@@TimSpangler-rd6vs Holy Spirit inspires Jonathan Edwards to write a sermon and a prayer for the Church. Same indwelling Spirit inspires a modern Christian to read & pray along. The Protestant can deny Communion of the Saints if he wants, but the only thing missing from bis prayerful meditation on Edwards was "Jonathan Edwards, ora pro nobis!"
I wanted to confess, but my parents don't believe you have to confess to the priest, and I am too scared of asking them to bring me to confession since they never did it before as far as I know, what should I do? I cannot drive to church by myself.
Catholicism is work salvation, please turn to Christ in faith as the Bible clearly says we are saved by grace which translates to CHARIS meaning "unmeritted favor/free gift." quite literally. There is a Reason why Paul says in Romans "for the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life through christ Jesus our lord." Again grace's literal translation in the Greek is "unmeritted favor/free gift." Salvation is completely free all you have to do is believe that what Jesus did for you 2000 years ago actually worked. He died as a substitute for sin on the cross for you and me because the penalty for sin is death, if the penalty has already been paid and "by grace you have saved through faith" then all you are doing is believing that his payment was for you, a.k.a excepting it and believing you have eternal life as a result of his finished work (and of course believing he rose from the dead as a dead savior can't save you.) The reason you cannot add a work to Christ's finished work is because as Paul makes clear in Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." You aren't under grace if you add something to the gospel because grace must be unmeritted for it to be attributed to you. Again, you are just trusting in what Christ already did for you, that's why in ephesians Paul says "after you believed, you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise, which is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Paul can't use the word guarantee here if salvation is partially based off of something you do, as obviously YOU can fail in your efforts meaning there is obviously no guarantee. But if it is entirely based off of what Christ did, then there is a guarantee.
@maxellton I know exactly what you guys teach. I only grew up around Catholics, and not a single one knew if they were going to heaven. If you died right now, do you know where you are going and why?
@@jsam1997 You: "If you died right now, do you know where you are going and why?" If you are in a state of mortal sin, you go to hell. If not, you go to heaven. So, we should examine our actions and conscience daily to see our state. If we are in a state of sin, we can avail of the sacrament of reconciliation. Let me ask you this question: Do you think you can lose your salvation?
@maxellton mortal sin? Where does that concept exist in scripture? Do you not think the lord took care of all sins on the cross? Only some right? As for "loss of salvation" its an absurd concept. To think that can happen is to not understand salvation conceptually or understand what happens as a result of it. We are adopted as sons, justified, given the righteousness of Christ, covered by the blood which has washed away all our sin (according to revelation), given the holy spirit who dwells inside of us and are literally "seated in heavenly places" according to Paul. If you want, I can grab all the scripture supporting this along with grabbing all the scripture saying that grace (by which we are saved) is the antithesis to works though I was hoping you knew these things already or do you not fully believe what Jesus did actually worked?
@@jsam1997@jsam1997 There's this famous Christian who is now an atheist, and recently, there are famous pastors who had to step out of the ministry because they got caught sinning or admitted to having sinned. If they die without repenting for their sins, do you think they will go to heaven?
This would be an epic New Testament 'fanfic' - the Son watches on from Heaven with command of the angels and has to hold them back as His Father dies for all humanity, but by the Spirit representative of Their love is risen from the dead.
Before even hearing the answer, i am always amazed by the thoughtfulness and the utterly different prospective that children have that adults simply do not. It's such a good question with a great premise that most adults would simply never think of
It was fitting for the Son to redeem mankind because we were created in his image. "All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. Jn 1.
As Aquinas says, "The temporal procession of creatures [is derived] from the eternal procession of the persons.…For, as always, that which is first is the cause of what comes afterwards, according to the Philosopher. Thus, the first procession is the cause and ratio of every subsequent procession.."
