Imagine an alternate universe where Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired like it did in August 28th, 1993 but only three months later, right before Christmas, the show ended, for good. Well, that nearly happened.
We gotta talk about Doomsday. NOT THE APOCALYPSE, that hasn’t happened, yet? You know a kids action show is gonna have a hype finale, just by reading the title of that episode, and none is more epic than Doomsday. This was the two-part episode and the thirty-ninth & fortieth episodes of the first season of MMPR that aired on November 29th and 30th of 1993. Let's see what could have happened.

If they did pick up Mighty Morohin from this original script I wonder what it would’ve been like? Would Lord Zedd still have been a thing? Would we see them with new suits or a restoration of their old powers with the thing with the Dino Zords being able to transform into the Thunderzords?

I absolutely agree. This could of been the season 1 finale and season 2 could of picked up after this with Zedd arrival being in response to this public failure when they were so close to winning. So yeah very little would of had to change for season 2 kick off almost exactly as it did

@@austinforgie1069 yeah and somewhere there we get the reveal of Zedd’s backstory with the Rangers learning how he was once an Eltarian warrior like Zordon and he was in fact Zordon’s mentor but a darkness grew in him and he tried to take the Zoe Crystal but because of his growing darkness it’s energy disfigured him and led to him taking the name Lord Zedd and the went on to conquer many galaxies and recruiting Rita and the others as his generals and henchmen.

For what it's worth, Cyclopsis serves as the final boss in both the Sega and SNES Power Rangers games. So he did still get to be the last bad guy in a sense.

What I'd have done,. Go through with the original idea, but add in the '"We still wanna be rangers" bit. Take a break for a month or so, then have Rita's urn be found adrift by Zedd. "If these rangers were able to defeat Rita, maybe I need to pay this Earth a visit." The Cotpotros (grunts) would be his servants aboard his starship. He comes to Earth, and since the rangers have gotten a little soft (since they've only been helping with crime and natural disasters) he personally destroys the Zords, the powers, and severely injures Zack. Zordon does the 'power of thunder' bit, but since Zack's hurt they need a new fifth ranger. Re-enter Tommy. (so they have a green ranger and are able to use the Dairanger suits/ ranger fight footage) the power rangers are gone, now enter the Mighty Morphin' Thunder Rangers. When it's time to introduce the White ranger, guess who just completely recovered from his injuries? But that's just me.

Hindsight being what it is, I do agree that with the introduction of Lord Zedd the rangers should have lost their original powers and have to seek out new powers.

The problem is part of the nostalgia for the original team is just how long they kept the original suits. And now constantly switching the team makes it hard to get a long term attachment to them. If I had my way, when the Rangers hit peak popularity in the 90s Saban and Fox would not be so cheap and dared to hire effects and costume teams and actually made sets and monsters of their own so that they could have more cohesive stories without the limitations of what worked with the Sentai footage

That sounds like a good idea in retrospect but you have to think about what that would have been like back then, especially when you take into consideration that this was almost the end of the series. From a business standpoint, playing it safe and keeping the outfits the same makes sense.

Even though Doomsday did feel like a finale, Rita's son looked too much like a brat in the Japanese version. He wouldn't be a believable villain. Goldar was perfect to pilot evil zord.

the great thing about doomsday though, is that after this episode we got special zyu2 footage unique to the american series, that the production team ordered from japan.

This should of been how this ended season 1 with the threat of Rita returning one day. Given Zedd casts Rita into space when he shows up anyways it just makes for a better story to have the rangers do it and that be the act that puts them on Zedds radar

A part of me kind of hopes that the originally planned plot lines for “Doomsday” becomes a thing in a “What if?” like comic. It would be neat to see how MMPR would have originally concluded back then, in a way.

I'm glad that the first season of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers didn't end after Doomsday. Then we wouldn't have got to see the return of the Green Ranger before he became the White Ranger. And also wouldn't have got to see Jason, Zack and Trini for awhile longer before they left the series.

Considering how popular it was, they'd still make all the other PR series, and have the original come back for more seasons. The second PR season would start with Rita getting rescued by a new villain and the rangers getting their powers back, or new guys becoming rangers.

I believe they could've pulled it off. I think it would've been nice to see two ranger teams working together in one show. Imagine if Jason, Kimberly, Trini, and Zack never left the MMPR team and have Tommy, Rocky, Aisha, Adam, and Kat become the Dairangers. As for Season 3, in my opinion, Saban made a mistake of turning the Kakurangers into aliens.

I don't think so. I think that the same thing would have happened that had happened when voltron went from the lion team to the vehicle team; too much change at one time that early on would have turned people off back then and the fanbase and enthusiasm would have deteriorated. It works now because a foundation has been made and people expect it now. I think Saban did the right thing by making the changes more gradual and subtle in the first few years.

If I was a Power Rangers Villain, I'd be: "The Dark Overlord, Chaotic." I'd be a boss villain that looks like a demon knight, with overwhelming magic and physical power, and wields a huge magic poleaxe. I've come to earth looking to conquer it, using a simple but effective strategy of sending in giant armies of giant monsters to run wild, wreak havoc and destroy everything. The Rangers would step up, and the humans would send in their armies, but that wouldn't be enough. The monsters would destroy their forces, level their cities, and kill the people. Then I would call in my main forces to fully take over, and the surviving humans would surrender and beg for mercy. The problem is, upon my arrival I discovered that the powers I drew on were sorely lacking on earth, and my stores of it have been damaged en route. So I'm only able to create 1 monster every few days, I have to wait a while to recharge enough to make them giant, and if I keep them with me for too long they'll drop dead. So the new plan is to send in 1 monster at a time to destroy the Rangers and steal their powers in order to revive my own, and also to carry out certain other missions. And to better ensure their success, I'll have them employ cunning tactics & strategies. Either that or I'd be some kind of dragon man that jokes around like Deadpool, but also randomly pauses to give people sound advice. I think I'd be called "Blaze." The episode subplot can involve me giving some kids some much needed guidance that isn't sugar coated and actually works, and the Rangers struggling to figure out why.

I never knew about this alternate ending to Season 1 of MMPR. I did find out years later that it was based on, and used the fight footage of the "Rangers" in costume from a Japanese action show called Zyuranger. I never saw it, as it was never available here in America. I have found some of the Super Sentai series on DVD at a local con that I was going to every spring(it's back now) and they looked really interesting. I recognized it being the basis for In Space, because of the costumes the Rangers wore. It called Megaranger. I regret not buying it because it look really good from the summary on the back of the case. I had no idea that each Super Sentai series team ended after one season and moved on to another different team. Although, at the end of In Space, the Rangers gave up their powers with Zordon having asked Andros to destroy his containment tube to release " the good energy" to defeat Rita, Zedd, Goldar, and the Machine Empire. So with that, the next season being Lost Galaxy with a different group of young people who became the Galaxy Rangers. This shift was fine with me, I always wondered why they had each new team give up of their powers after defeating the enemy. But I know why; to to better adapt each Super Sentai series for each Power Rangers series.

Two things I would like to see happen in the comic runs. Power Rangers in Space, during the final battle the Asronema is calling out the Rangers. After Bulk, Skull, and several other civilians claim to be Rangers the real Space Rangers showup and morph in front of everybody. Then what I would like to see happen in the comic is Tommy, Adam, Kat, Tonya, Rocky, Justin, Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Aisha all show up proclaiming the be Rangers. Then morph into the original Rangers (Aisha into her Ninjetti costume), the Zeo Rangers, and Justin into the Blue Turbo Ranger. Second thing I'd love to see is a new ongoing series where Tommy, Kat, Adam, and Tonya never retire during Turbo Rangers. Instead, they join Andros in Rangers in Space. And have then carry the stories going forward. I know several of the seasons required a new team, but I still would have liked see those familiar charactersca bit longer. Maybe even a few more team ups with Dex, the Masked Rider

As a kid I was terrified of Lokar. He was so scary and those Doomsday episodes really did feel like that last episodes because of you play the Super Nintendo and or sega genesis power ranger game, the last boss is Cyclopsis. So I was always confused as to why the game would stop there but the series continue. If I was a MMPR villian I’d be Eviserator with the power to multiply.

Man, they could have ended it here. Then start another season, where Zedd shows up and ends up defeating the rangers badly. Boom, gotta go get new powers and they become the rangers that were supposed to be with the Thunder Zords, I think Dairangers. That means new toys to sell, plus they could have done something where they were forms like Megaforce or something..so they still get that nostalgia from people. And of course eventually Tommy shows back up, white powers, woo. Lol, there's just so much missed potential they had..

I liked what they ended up doing. I mean, why have some random son show up? In the original it may have worked, but a kid would be VERY out of left field to pilot Cyclopsis. Now, letting Goldar pilot it, get it destroyed, kill Lokar, and send Rita and goons into that urn? That would have been fine too, I guess. I liked what they did even if it didn't make a lot of sense at first. But a kid out of nowhere would make no sense to me. Then there could have been a different way to start off season two. The fact that Lord Zedd and Rita having a kid out of nowhere 20+ years later made no sense to me. Though if you make it out like Superman's origin; having the son born and escaping before the purging of evil by killing Zordon in the Space season, then it makes sense. I didn't see that season so I don't know how that worked, forgive me if I missed something.

I always thought that the way they titled the episode, they jumped gun. Because the obvious reason being the name of the title, "Doomsday!" Anybody would know what that means. That this wasn't going any normal episode of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" And once we saw the evil Warzord, Cyclopses piloted by Goldar we knew that it would not be an easy battle for the Power Rangers. And we were right! The fact that this was a two episode event made it a little worthwhile. I also remember to tell my dad record it for me and my little brother so we can pick a time that we were free from homework and any other important responsibilities were out of the way. I remember that the episode came on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. which meant that we had to wait a whole week to see the next and conclusive episode of the "Doomsday" event. Still some 20 some odd years later I finally decided to watch the Super Sentai Zyurangers, the entire 50 episode collection which included the final episode where you see the same warzord with some differences, but it was good.

Would have been a fitting end, send rita and her gang to space and this would be the perfect time to introduce zed and the diaranger villains as his goons , we could even use the diaranger suits, zordon justifies this as the dino zords were to heavily damaged to continue fighting, so the new thunder zord was introduced along with the thunder mophers.

My Villain name would have been Zordon, because I always imagined Zordon as more of a title than a name. Like, he was a master over zords or zord building, therefore he was the Zordon of Eltar. If I'd been a villain, I'd have been a rival Zordon.

Is it legitly possible to see the other 20 additional episodes before Doomsday and still fit it into the original Power Rangers cannon then start after Doomsday with Season 2? Also it's a miracle the original Japanese version of Zuru based off Power Rangers is had an official release that once went out of print years ago is now widely available for old and new fans alike. One other question how is the audio quality in Season 2 and 3's Saban dub compared to Season 1 was the audio punched up in any way or is it still 1.0 Mono?

That would've worked well because I hated the spliced episodes of season 2 with zyu2 monsters fighting the thunder megazord. Season 2 would've been a lot better starting off with dairanger footage only and get creative from there. What do you think 🤔?

@@moseskuria1234 Indeed, the only issue I now likely found out is that the Green Ranger was brought back which meant the 20 extra episodes wouldn't fit well as he's part of the team again, also I am noticing something really weird with the audio in the extra 20 episodes I can't really explain it but something is really weird every time the Putty Patrol got that new theme song I am guessing whatever audio changes in that song are what Season 2 and 3 contain too. But I'm not technical to know what causes it...

Sorry to be that guy but in the Japanese language, 'zyuranger' is pronounced like "jew" not "zoo", other then that, everything else was accurate and putting the zyu2 costumes right after the Toei logo, nice. :)

The zyuranger canon airing is better as the villain in the finale DaiSatan aka Polar in major was the main bad guy. It'd be fun to watch mmpr in zyuranger airing order
