This week, let's break out the Rogue Trader era colour scheme and paint some Crimson Fists! These Space Marines have been a staple of Warhammer 40k since it's inception and I love them!

Crimson Fists are the best Chapter!

Instead of transfers you could use Imperial Fists Primaris upgrade kit where you get shoulder pads embossed with a fist that you can paint in Crimson Fists colors. More expensive but easier.
@SultanPlays40k
@SultanPlays40k 10 месяцев назад
I would - but these monopose kits have the shoulderpads already attached! For my normal multipart kits, I already use the embossed shoulderpads 😊

@@SultanPlays40k Monopose kits didn't stop be from using the shoulder pads from the upgrade kit, its actually quite easy to remove the molded pad to replace it. so far I've done it on my warhammer heroes strike force Justian kill team with great success.

They look great! I’ve been thinking about how to do the Primaris Sternguard Veterans as Crimson Fists. I thought a marching red tabard would be too much but the colour scheme is perfect! What an inspiration! I’m going to get mine built today!

Nice walkthrough/tutorial. Simple, but veeeery effective. These are the kind of techniques I always look to incorporate and are, imo a high value for approach for new hobbyists too. Good work! Sternguard Crimson Fists... Such a good pairing too. ✊

From all CrimsonFists painting vids out there, this is my favorite - looks just right between serious and show-off, just the way I was looking for. Never painted a model, and don't have time and guts to do it anytime soon, but if I ever was - I would try to follow this guide. For Cantor, for Dorn!!

Great job, we're on the same page for colour scheme, though I went down the sponge painting front, I like you clean style too though, good work!

Lovely work on the Crimson Fists! They were on the shortlist for my space marine legion too (ironically, they didn't make the cut because decals were hard to obtain) For applying transfers, I don't know if this helps with old ones, but I always use a layer of Ardcoat first (then Lahmian Medium to take off the shine) - that seems to provide the best surface.
@SultanPlays40k
@SultanPlays40k 11 месяцев назад
Thanks buddy! Yeah I did the whole shebang this time, gloss varnish, micro sol/set, water/hairdryer, lahmium medium over top, matt varnish - all to no joy! Perhaps the transfers are just old? 😭

I've loved seeing you develop your crimson fists! Hopefully you'll be getting them on the tabletop against a certain Wintersy SEOy person soon.

Have you tried a gloss varnish on the shoulder pads before applying the transfers? You can apply a matt varnish after to get rid of the shine.
@SultanPlays40k
@SultanPlays40k 11 месяцев назад
I did, started with gloss, used microsol/set, a hairdryer, painting medium and a matt varnish to no joy! I think they're a bit oversized for shoulderpads and because they're quite old, don't manipulate very well 😞 thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

with an extremely sharp blade cut a small diagonal line in the 4 corners of the transfer ( dont cut all the way into the middle ) this then allows the transfer to spread out naturally on the shoulder pad. Shouldnt get a massive gap but easily repaired with a paint brush if needed.
@SultanPlays40k
@SultanPlays40k 11 месяцев назад
I'll try that, thanks! I know it works with the Ultramarines symbols, but these transfers are weirdly fragile!

Unfortunately the older transfers are just junk. I've used the older ones and managed to get them to lay totally flat and smooth yet even with gloss before and after they still dry up with a slight white stain around the transfer showing the transfer border. Using the newer transfers from GW are night and day better but that doesn't really help with getting crimson fist transfers unless you order on ETSY or similar web sites have been helpful for me

I have a question: how do you keep it from flattening out? I'm painting terminators and I'm having a lot of problems (sure I'm new but-)

@@SultanPlays40k I mean when I paint my brush always sticks out in all directions and the paint goes everywhere, so I can't edge highlight
@SultanPlays40k
@SultanPlays40k 11 месяцев назад
@arctrooper636 It could be a multitude of reasons! A common one is that you might have some old paint near the base of the bristles that dried and forces the end apart - another common one is that the brush is a bit dry! A good technique is to dampen the brush, remove most of the water on some tissue and twist the brush as you do this, and again when you apply paint to it to bring it to a point! Then when edge highlighting, don't press too hard, it's quite a light touch technique! Getting good synthetic or kolinsky sable brushes is always important too, a bad brush will always end up fraying, a good one, if it's cared for properly, will stay together much longer 😁 Other than that, it's just practice!

100% needing a new Primaris Pedro model. Some do the kitbashes look great but would be awesome to see an official model that has crossed the Rubicon Primaris!
