I’m actually looking to buy a Sega controller for my retro games (especially for Sonic Mega Collection Plus). I was thinking of buying that wireless transparent blue one, if only because the start button is where it should be. But if this one is better, I’m willing to compromise. So, is this controller really that good?

The funniest thing is that Sega and Nintendo were both perfectly content having 2 button controllers for the NES and Master System, then suddenly the Megadrive comes out with a whole 3 buttons, so of course the Super Nintendo has to have 4 buttons, then the Mega Drive answers that with a new controller that has 6 buttons, you just kind of wish they kept going tit for tat like that until we ended up with a 76 button controller with 6 d-pads and 4 start buttons, yet another wonderful possible future we could have lived in before Sony came along and ruined everything

@@rorychivers8769 I'm not sure what you are saying but you can use an analog stick to play any game instead of a d-pad though sometimes that's not as good. I was saying the trackpad on the steam controller works fine for a d-pad. I like not using the click on the pad. The other pad used as buttons for some reason I meess that up and press the wrong one idk why.

ever since the xbox controller takeover on windows, i've been looking for 6 face buttons. I used to have a saitek 6 face, dual analog, 4 trigger controller that i LOVED that gave me 20 yrs of service..if i could just get another of those, i'd be set. This looks like a great runner up.

I have one and because of steam input it work on pc still. Sadly no rumble. look on e bay there are 2 versions. try the one with the 4 shoulder buttons it seams better but idk that's not the one i have. ruble force edit: I've even used it on my steam deck

@@bland9876 thanks, i actually meant my saitek just died..liket he buttons stopped responding. so i ordered another on ebay after searching high and low for something with 6 face and at least a couple of triggers. i can't believe how fast 6 face buttons disappeared. it's the epitome of fighting game/emulation controllers. the ONLY game i like using triggers is starfox for the barrel roll. everywhere else feels clunky.

@@Sully365 I just thought it looked weird when I saw it at a thrift store so I picked it up. The square analog sticks are strange and the d-pad feels weird but I love it. I don't actually care for the 6 face buttons but the fact the normal 4 are smaller is actually good. You'd think that would be bad cuz it normally is but nope. Wonder how the 4 should button version is in comparison?

so i bought the big 6 and it got shipped a few days back. its pretty good. the start button DOES feel weird being flush with the controller's profile but u get used to it. it was wonky to get it to pair, however, but i got it to pair finally. i followed the instructions to pair it with the usb dongle on my genesis mini 2 and i had to do it a different way, but, it paired and works great. it stays paired but takes a few seconds to recognize. the other dongle it came with for the original genesis control port (i use it on retron5 instead) worked great and paired instantly. the 2 hidden buttons on the bottom ridge of the controller (to access save states on genesis mini 1 and 2) were a surprise to find by accident lol but they work fine, too. the controller works great though! feels like a real genesis pad. that start button... ehhh ur gonna be feelin around for it, unfortunately, to pause a game. but ehh it is what it is. i wish they put it in the middle of the pad or kept it as a raised button. so thanks for recommending it in this vid, works great. SF2 works slick, too. i was short-tapping the d-pad and i felt zero input lag. the dpad feels better than their other 6 button pad's dpad. i like this WAY better than the other 6 button pad retrobit put out!

Man this thing looks great! The only thing I would change is coloring the letters in the A B C buttons in red like the old Genesis controllers.

True but this is modeled like a 3 button with the X Y Z buttons added and the 3 buttons did have the red letters.

The letters are only colored in on the early-run controllers. I'd like to think it's meant to be like the more common uncolored variant, but it's probably just cost cutting.

I see that you have a Sega Genesis Model 3 out to test your new controllers. I have one that was my first Sega Genesis and I still have it. The system still works great even if it can't do everything the models 1 and 2 could do.

@@bland9876 I think that is a model that anyone wouldn't want because it was made by AT Games and was a disaster. It might of been license by Sega but was an embarrassment instead of an actual console. It is like the cheap Chinese knock off Sega Genesis/Mega Drives that sounds horrible and do not play any games without screen tearing.

I hope they do the 6-button Sega Genesis joystick eventually, since I preferred sticks to pads in the 16-bit (and 8-bit) eras and I would love a new joystick to use on the Model 2 I have since the old joystick I had snapped completely off.

You can always build one yourself with genuine arcade parts, it will always be better than any retail product. I did that for my Commodore computers.

@@SteveBrandon You can always get a used stick but they can be worn out and also those old sticks were usually rubber dome based and not mechanical like a true arcade stick. There are people that will sell a home made ones for about $100 on Esty and that might be a good route to take but if you have at least beginner level soldering skills you can easily buy a stick, buttons, and a plastic case online and then recycle a pad for the PCB board and cable (you already have a broken stick handy) and make one your self.

Cool look, a blend of the 6 button and the original 3 button. Like I say, looks cool, but I am curious, how does the d pad compare to the original 3 button or the original 6 button. I had both back in the day, still do to this day. And even though the 3 button controller is the iconic Genesis controller, I hated it once I got the 6 button. The d pad was miles ahead of the 3 button’s. if the d pad is on par with a 6 button, I’ll be more excited

Watch CGQ+'s review on the Big6. He graded it a B, and says it isn't the end-game Genesis controller we were all hoping for, solely because of the unreliable D-pad. his exact words is,"The D-pad feels like it's rocking on some giant pivot point. You can push the D-pad a certain way and it can rock it up" Basically mistaking your right press or whatever for an up etc. He said it's more of an issue for fighters first and foremost. He recommends just sticking with the Original 6-Button.

How good has your history been with Retro Bit controllers? I have their blue 6 button Sega pad but sometimes the d-pad stops working and A and B switch functionality, I have their Bluetooth Saturn controller but after updating I can no longer use it on my Switch. Also, I think my wireless dual analog SNES pad might sometimes double-press…

i have a controller that is like if 3 people could make a baby and it was a playstaion, og xbox duke and a sega 6 button had a baby. the "start" button is above the 6 face buttons. it's actually a mode select button to make the right stick act as a mouse if you have the og software installed but ok.

I will get this - since hunting for originals on ebay is too hit & miss - but I would love if Retro-Bit did the Sega Arcade Stick next. I love the indent of the arcade stick its very comfortable to hold and looks amazing - but it must come with top-quality arcade switches & buttons. - Happy to pay $250-$350 for quality & I know a lot of people would buy it - just look at the arcade stick produced for Paprium.

To share... I was given an old 2600 first, then in 1990-91 mom caved and bought a Nintendo, with castlevania 3. Winter of 92-93,i wanted a sega genesis. Christmas i got a model 2 with Aladin. Birthday of 94 was snes with donkey kong country. I never had an original game boy, but i got both a game gear and a game boy pocket, silver.

I own an official Sega retro bit six button wired controller for the original console model 2 and I’m having issues. When i play sonic , i press the c button and did a small jump When i play mk1 some times the c and start button don’t work And the lost vikings, c and start button never works 😢

just bought the blue see through bluetooth controller about an hour ago, looking to get a 3rd saturn controller going to look forward to playing 4 player guardian heroes on emulator lol i had a genesis as a kid and i could have sworn the start button was in the middle but apparently it was always above the abc buttons not sure about the six button arcade controller.

Totally reasonable at $35... I'm about to check out and it's pushing $50 with shipping and tax... Argggh... I don't know if I can pull the trigger on that since I have the previous Genesis and Saturn wireless Retrobits... But those do go for a pretty penny nowadays.

Id assume eventually these should be available in more places online. Also if you have any local retro game shops maybe you will have luck finding them there. I know a few shops around me that typically carry stuff like this, but also I suppose retro game shops are not as common for everyones location.

Why not make the buttons all the same size? The only controller that did that was the ASCII controller for the Dreamcast. I never liked the smaller buttons on the Genesis and Saturn
