Paramount execs practically forced Transformers, Ninja Turtles, and Sonic to all have realistic designs since they thought that's what the audience wanted (for whatever reason). It wasn't until the insane backlash they got for the infamous Gangsta's Paradise Sonic trailer did they change their minds and let the designs be cartoony
I know no one loves these crappy ugly buff Ninja Turtles movies from Micheal Bay but I am glad the original script was scrapped because I was probably 9 or 10 in 2014 when I watched this film while I kept begging my mom "Look Mom I want to go see Ninja Turtles" but I am still sad that they cancelled the plans for a third film.
I didn’t like the designs of the turtles, but I am probably one of the few who loved the shredder design from the first movie. It’s missing a little color, but it still looked awesome.
I would've LOVED to see Francisco's Turtles in action... I'll take humanoid alien turtles with realistic animal faces over the uncanny vallley shlock of Bay any day!
I never understood the hate. I liked them I'm also one of the few that liked Batman vs Superman. Most movie goers didn't understand that this came out of frank millers run.
I think they work for the movie. It was a departure but every TMNT adaptation does its own thing and I really love that about the series. It's constantly evolving and there's always something new to enjoy
8:23 this version of TMNT looks like they come from a game that they are literally the boss fight or even The Boys version but overall I have to admit that TMNT with guns goes hard ngl
This movie would've been weird and obscure for the characters and the concept of the story with the mutant turtles being aliens instead of mutated turtles
Thank you so much. The production of these movies and the controversy leading from before the movie, until even after the demise has always intrigued me. I have been a ninja turtles fan my entire life and at the end of the day I don’t despise these movies
I wanted to mention the nostrils thing, I know hardcore fans don't like this, but turtles do have nostrils. I mean, they're amphibious creatures that breathe on land and swim underwater, so it makes perfect sense to give them nostrils. The problem is that the facial designs of the TMNT are way too human and kinda ruins the whole mutant aspect. It's supposed to be a mix of human features with turtle features. Oh wait, you actually mentioned it. My bad. 😅
I agree, I'll even go as far as I liked the concept of the turtles being different in size, not as big, but the idea that Raphael would be a little bit more muscular, Leonardo would have more of a martial artist type build, Michelangelo would be more athletic, and Donnie would probably be a bit on the scrawny/ in shape side of things. I even liked the bullet proof shells concept honestly..
@@jackkawf4449 I think the different size thing was inherited from the 2012 series since that show did the same thing, and same goes for Rise years later. But I honestly liked it when the Bayverse implemented that tbh.
@@tonymata8070 true, the only thing is they were just a bit too big, the turtles are typically about 5ft-ish... I would have even been ok with 5"7 -6".
I will never understand how big studios always want to change the exact attributes and storyline that makes a franchise Legendary. Moving ass backwards and wondering why it flops after.
Not gonna lie this would have been very interesting to see even if it would have been the worst thing to come out of the Ninja Turtles, while the 2014 film wasn’t terrible it felt too safe and feels more like retread of the 1990s movie.
I came up with a TMNT film of my own! It's called TMNT: Into the Shadows, and follows a now broken version of the Turtle gang, set 10 years after an incident, which saw Splinter die at the hands of Shredder, leading Leo to kill him in a fit of rage, in front of a large crowd of people. This would cause the Turtles to be seen as murderous monsters, as they fled into the shadows, leading to Mutants being outlawed. But, when TCRI teams up with Karai and the remaining foot clan, to try and take over New York, this leads to the brothers, April, and Cacey to have to regroup to protect the City, with this film also being the first in a potential TMNT Cinematic Universe. The film would be 2D Animated in a style similar to the Mirage comics, with the Turtles all wearing red bandanas to stay hidden, but they would still wear the letter belts, and would all be different sizes to better distinguish them. What do you think?
Oddly enough I'd would have liked to see it, it's that weird early revamping you got back in the day like the Rami Spider-man, Burton Batman, and phase one of the Avengers.
To be perfectly honest, none of the ideas are bad, but they’re not a way to re-introduce a franchise back to cinema. Maybe if they are part of a variety comic I would love it, but if they went for this in an actual movie, it would’ve been one shell shock of a disaster, the Bay turtles were all ready very scary, scary enough that when my mom gave me the action figure of Leo we had to leave it in the yard until she gave it away,so making them giant buff aliens with guns probably wouldn’t have been a good idea
I think they should have kept the guns idea except have only Raphael use them. Maybe they could even adapt the Mirage Casey Jones and Raphael, Bodycount from the 90s
1:02 Thats the complete opposite of what a ninja is cause the pyshique of ninjas are lean built a jacked muscle bound hulking jock with bullet immunity carapaces and plastrons makes no sense and they have no reason to be ninjas at that point
The Bayverse movies are my guilty pleasure movies. I enjoy them for roughly the same reasons someone might enjoy the Monsterverse movies. I get a kick seeing CGI animal things going at it. I actually don't think the Turtles themselves look that bad. Had this version of the movie been what we saw in theaters, I think I would've liked it even more
I watched both films in theaters I was thinking that the shredder in 2014 looked more like super shredder instead. Heck i was hoping for a shredder film where he escapes the krang but sadly it didn't last long :/
Can they divorce the Blue Door script from the Turtles franchise and release it as a standalone? That sounds awesome! Also: I find it hilarious that the Turtles are forced to hide from society at large because of their appearance, even though they're literal heroes, yet the fans were (and are) mad that they're "too ugly." Like, that's the point!
And also the old design of Movie Sonic as a seperate franchise it should be called "Naoto the Alien Hedgehog" nod to Naoto Oshima, charzcter designer of Sonic
Some part of me wanted to see how the others could have looked, like Schrader being yellow skinned and such. But this was always a doomed idea to me, to paste Transformers storytelling with Casey as Spike/Sam and just having the TMNT be fodder to focus less on them and more on April. Turtles with guns is a huge turn off. If there ever was a mulitversal Spider-Verse TMNT film like Turtles Forever, theses ideas should make a cameo. The alien Shredder thing i dont hate as i love the over the top insanity one from the 03 show. Or one of em.
Seeing Warpingfist's two cents on them could be neat, but there's already plenty of good coverage of them, especially by channels like Theorymus and The Fire Brothers.
I think Leo actually has a pretty good looking classic Ninja turtle face and makes the nostrils work pretty well. It's Raph I hate. Why does he have them so close together?
I hate the 2014 movie as much as the next guy but there is something about it that I like. Heck even of the Blue Door was a real actual thing, I would've hate it but because it is a TMNT thing there will always be something in it that I would like
It's pretty standard procedure in Hollywood, for popular franchises to get fake titles or what they call "production titles", basically as a way to try and keep people from looking too closely at them, in an attempt to keep things secret until the film comes out. The most popular example is probably Return of the Jedi, which was filmed under the name "Blue Harvest". Basically the idea is, no one is really going to care much about some random film called "Blue Door", but a new TMNT reboot? Well, that's going to drum up a lot of interest, and even though most people are wise to the practice of fake production titles, they still use them, to at least attempt to keep things from leaking.
And these movies were good, but everyone hates Michael Bay no matter what he does. If I could ask for one thing from HOLLYWOOD I'd ask for the 3rd film from this franchise..... well and another Rush Hour (rushhour-4)...
Michael Bay and Zack Snyder, seriously are these two brothers? Lol. They have a vision for what they want on their movies, but they just can't or dont know how to execute it well...
Michael Bay TMNT is bad, both movies. But they are "canon" thanks to TMNT Forever, since they represent a dimension / parallel world. Even though if that one sucks.
I enjoyed both the Bay movies, I enjoyed part 1 the most. I was one of the few fans of the Shredder design, I mean, in my opinion... that modern upgrade was spot on. Shredder sucked in part 2, boring, no helmet until he was written out at the end🤦🏾♂️🤷🏽♂️
Now, look, as bad as the idea of the turtles being aliens is, and this script isn’t much better. When that was announced, people on the internet should’ve been a lot more mature, and I mean that. Saying stuff like “my childhood is being sh*t on” is just dumb! I mean, all it would’ve been if the alien idea wasn’t scrapped, was a crappy new version of the turtles, it doesn’t effect the version of the turtles from the past that you love. If you don’t like the turtles being aliens, don’t see it, it’s that simple, that’ll show them they made a bad choice. My point is, when a movie based on a franchise you love comes out, and it sucks, and it has no ties to the versions of it you love, be an adult, and don’t say “my childhood is ruined” you’re childhood is not ruined!
I for the life of me don’t understand, why Johnny Knoxville was cast as Leonardo, Leonardo is the responsible turtle, Johnny Knoxville is not a responsible man, and he’s a bad actor as well! I mean just, look at Jackass, it’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen, that show and those movies make me wanna vomit!
Still make the movie call it teenage ninja aliens from dimension X boom new IP and fun movies that doesn't ruin the turtle franchise and then add this concepts with the guns for the next movie like the aliens just learns how to use guns from the new world their in that's earth and call it teenage ninja aliens from dimension x reloaded fighting other beings from dimension q that are trying to assimilate the new world earth and shadder and the aliens form an alince to protect earth form dimension q invasion boom thank you you can leave the check at my door 😅
You know what I like about AI is alot of these Movies that could of came out and was Shelved or unreleased can be done by AI and it might look good.. Purple Gorillaz Was Here. Peace.
