Actually the history of the controller gets even cooler. When it was releasing in Japan they absolutely REFUSED to get the Xbox unless the controller was changed. So the Duke wasn't even really in Japan

this controller was also where i first started playing Xbox and have so many memories using these playing halo 1 & 2, jet set radio future, star wars battlefront 2, and the original Forza

Reload as black button? Wut. Reload for OG Halo 2 is "X", Black button was to change grenade, with White being toggle flashlight.

I also grew up with this controller and am really happy that hyperkin re release the s . Would have been cool if they gave it a led screen like the duke

I remember the S controller being really comfortable and loved it. I wasn't a fan of the 360's until years later. The battery pack placement was odd to me. It also was much smaller, but I got used to it.

Quick clarification on Hall Sticks You still CAN get drift, if you do not keep ypur controllers clean it will drift, Hall Effect sticks only prevent drift from parts deteriorating with use

I have an adapter that allows me to use newer Xbox controllers with my og Xbox, Ive been meaning to get the Duke so I could use a brand new og Xbox controller in an actual Xbox, this is even better as it's both newer but the shape and bumpers make it more practical for other uses and newer games

That clone wars / Tetris bundle slapped i played the absolute shit out of that game

The Duke is an enigma of a controller its not even just its size... Who tf thought diagonal buttons that are shaped outward against your fingers was a good idea 😂😂😂

Didn't Microsoft open up the Xbox propriety wireless protocol to third parties? I'd love to pick up one of these Hyperkin controllers (especially the Xenon) but making them wired only sucks.

I had the same experience with the OG Xbox, I got that same Clone Wars and Tetris bundle for Christmas and only really used the duke controller when at friend's houses. This is the controller I grew up with, definitely going to check it out.

The white color brings every cool part of the controller to light for sure, looks so beautiful

Hall effect definitely doesn't mean "no drift", it just means they are less likely to have drift problems in the shorter term.

This is the only Xbox controller that I've never used. But if I was to purchase this? I wouldn't use it for modern games due to the larger size. But the hall effect is a worthwhile reason to buy it.

My favorite controller ever. Still enjoy using it with my OG Xbox. Kudos to Hyperkin, they're on a roll lately.

I got the Duke version mostly because of muscle memory and the buttons are in a different spot. Im glad the Duchess is being made though, i understand many more people used that gamepad over the Duke

Hyperkin would be doing Smash Bros players a favor if they made GameCube controllers with Hall effect sticks. Nintendo is making the only model that can be connected to the original console and they tacked on a big premium. Another controller I’d like to see brought back is the proto PS3 controller. I was thinking about it one day and found a picture (don’t know if it was made back in the 2000s) that said the thing everyone called a boomerang was more comfortable than the DualShock 3. The picture was kind of convincing, I’d like to try it myself. If it stinks it would still make a neat collectible.

When the new duke came out, I went back and played combat evolved on the master chief collection. That was sweet. Everything old was new again. I'll prolly do it again with this one.

The S is one of my favorite controllers of all time. Super comfortable.

Would be cool to use with the few backwards compatible OG XB games.

Their Duke controller had drift and they ignored every single one of my support request emails.

Now we just need the Hyperkin Xenon to have Hall effect sticks and i'm set. Forever.

I had an off-brand S controller back in the day that had bumpers that duplicated the black and white buttons. It was nice. I'm hoping that the bumpers and black white can be mapped separately. It would give this some value beyond nostalgia.

I just finished replaying the original Assassin’s Creed using the Xenon and absolutely loved it. Might need to pick this up and give Halo a whirl! Hyperkin is doing a really good job on these retro controllers.

One of these would potentially be really dang cool paired an OGX360. You get a controller for the original Xbox that looks really close to an OG Xbox controller, while not being crappy like the aftermarket controllers.

I always love the original Xbox Controller S, but well, being a fan of RPGs, platformers and a lot of Japanese games, there weren't a whole lot of games for me to play with it, so being able to play stuff like Kingdom Hearts or Persona 4 with this controller is just rad!

As kid i thought the duke was the other controller. We all had this one and one cousin had this one and duke

I recently bought one from goodwill for a buck and I have to say it's so comfortable

I have the Cortana Duke they released for Halo's 20th and its become my favorite controller to use

Even though I do like playing wirelessly I do still have a few wired controllers for my Series X, one of them is the Razer Wolverine V2 controller and it's awesome. I mostly play wireless with my Elite Series 2 controller and even when I'm playing wireless, I don't have to worry about batteries because I use rechargeable battery packs. But I still might get this controller just because I like it so much and because it brings back so many memories of me Splinter Cell playing on my OG Xbox.

Are you not aware that all 3rd party Xbox licensed controllers are wired? It appears to be a mandate from Microsoft that in order to get 3rd party controllers licensed, they must be wired only, the reason is not yet conclusively known, it may be that because on Xbox official hardware, the Xbox controller do not connect via Bluetooth, but instead via a proprietary Microsoft wireless signal thus to gain official license from Microsoft they must work on Xbox which will only work wired, since licensing Microsoft wireless signal would be too expensive for the 3rd party company and would cause the controllers to double in price; or it could just be a Microsoft stipulation so that Microsoft has no competition in the wireless front on their own hardware.

After the SNES, I got a PS1 and have stayed with PlayStation. However, while I was in college my roommate brought his Xbox and then later the Xbox 360 so that's pretty much where I experienced Xbox controllers. Overall though I never got too used to it. That is nice that this third party controller opted for hall effect analogs. I just wish that first party, official controllers did that.

I had the Hypekin Duke, and it was a terrible controller. Mine had issues with the left trigger, where it would activate on its own. It was incredibly annoying, and I ended up having to throw the controller away. I’m a bit skeptical about purchasing this controller, even though I really want the Controller S. I just hope it’s an improvement over the Duke.

Love these, Absolutely loved the Duke. I like the Jellybean shaped buttons, and the slanted layout, I'm not a fan of the Baseball field / Playstation square button layout.

I got the same bundle you did for Christmas. Shenmue II was the draw for me. The only things I wanted that year was the console and Shenmue II.

Would be really nice if they made it so the Duke and now the DuchesS would work out-of-the-box with the original console. They would get double bonus points if they made the parts swappable between the original OEM controllers. Original Dukes are starting to go extinct and suffer from brittle plastic issues, and sourcing replacement OEM-style stick caps is bascially impossible.

I think the "issue" of this controller is the memory slots, if you removed them (and the bulge they create), it would be a regular controler, kinda flat like the xbox 360 wired controller, or like the sidewinder

having extra black/white buttons up top is a genius move. Its a shame they didnt improve the ass d-pad though.

I’m not that bothered by it being wired. I’m bothered by the fact that these controllers (I have the Xenon and I love it) are wired but they cost like wireless ones. 30-40€ would be much more fair price.

This controller will be solid. I wanna play all the of games i missed on xbox og. This controller is the most comfortable controller i used ever. Even better WAY better than 360. The downside is the wire. But other than that i might buy 2, i already have 2 xenon controllers and they help alot with certain games

I wish they would come with adapters to use on the original xbox just if you wanted a brand new controller for the original console

I have small hands, but I have the duke. It’s strangely comfortable to hold. But I am not going back to wired. Wish they brought it back in wireless.

Honesty the 360 controller is all i'd ever need. One of the most perfect controllers I've ever used. Didn't even know they made that xenon controller, going to have to buy that now 😂 Cool to see stuff like this though!

hall effects sensors make me consider this controller. So many hyperkin dukes were faulty after a few months and stick drift was one of the issues I had. Shame they didn't at least give it wireless functionality with pc

It would be great if it can be used wireless. The previous duke version uses wire only too, but understandable since it has screen/display in the middle.

Atleast it's not as disappointing as Xenon. Hall Effect is a nice addition. Will consider getting it.

It's a CRIME they didn't make a wireless version of this controller. I would buy 4 if they made it wireless.

It would have been fun to get one of these controllers (Duke or S) to play backward compatible games with actual black & white buttons next to the four others. But both being wired only makes both options a no go for me.

I wish they had implemented the screen from the Duke into this. Then it would have been perfect.

Imma buy it too (have 4 dukes, 1 black,1 green and 2 Cortana) wish it had transparent green tho for the Halo version

I hate how they put a white LED on it instead of just making the logo glow. Could have been a very simple white backlight. I have the GameSir G7 SE and it's an awesome controller, but the white LED on it is really distracting playing at night with the lights off. That and the replaceable faceplate wiggled a bit out of the box. I ended up stuffing bits of tissue paper into the peg holes to keep it sterdy.

Those weren't bad controllers for the time, but the modern designs are definitely better. My cheapo Android controller works just fine for everything and feels so much better in my hands than everything else that came from prior generations. The only complaint I have is the sticks which are seriously drifting.

Do Hyperkin controllers resist stick drift? I normally use contact cleaner and compressed air.

I‘m buying this thing asap. The modern Series X controller is uncomfortable af. Hear me out: It‘s getting smaler and smaler with every new iteration and i‘m getting wrist pain since the new Series version. Before you say "Oh, it’s the best, what are you talking about?!" just take a look at the position of your hands and wrists while playing, especially if you got bigger hands. They are slightly angled which will be a problem in the long run, believe me. Carpal tunnel syndrome, finger pain, wrist pain or tendon irritation if you keep playing like this for a few years. I‘m playing for over 30 years and Microsoft had only two good and comfi controllers where your hands are sitting in a perfect angle: The Xbox S and Xbox 360 controllers
