The Origins of Bugs Bunny

This rascally rabbit was originally conceived in the late 1930s, but officially debuted in the 1940 Merrie Melodies short animation “A Wild Hare.” A smart and casually-mannered rabbit contending with a hunter, he popularized the hunter-and-rabbit scenario and several iconic catchphrases. Un-named until the short film “Elmer’s Pet Rabbit”, he soon achieved overwhelming success due to his careless personality, charm and adorably innocent look, and became the most popular Merrie Melodies character. In the years following, he appeared in the Looney Tunes cartoon show, became the star of 1960’s “The Bugs Bunny Show,” and appeared in several films and video games. Warner Bros. Literary owns the greatest cartoons in our existence. Loony Tunes,Tex Avery Shorts,Hanna-Barbara Cartoons/Classic Cartoon Network Cartoon's 90's-11 same with filmography (so does Universal film-wise)

Watch Mojo, I am shocked and dismayed! You forgot something rather important! Because of his cartoon Super-Rabbit in 1943, Bugs Bunny was officially enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He remained in active duty until he retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.

In the last scene in this clip he sings, "Don't bury me now, - Wait till I die" - very macabre and humorous. Prior to the 1936 all-white version of bugs, named "happy-rabbit", there was an all-black version of this rabbit that pre-dated mickey mouse and shared some of the same characteristics featured in some early B/W cartoons by Walt Disney.

Something interesting I learned about the line "What's up Doc?" Tex Avery used the line, which was a popular phrase in his home state. He was surprised how well received the line was as the audience was howling with laughter.

I remember one where Porky was hunting was getting thwarted and heckled by a little white rabbit. His character was just like those first few proto-bugs cartoons, so technically that would have been his first appearance

Ahh.. 'Merry Melodies' and 'Looney Tunes' defined my child hood :-D I'm Australian and to me, these cartoons are synonymous with watching the Saturday mornings cartoons in my pyjamas, sitting in my bean bag, eating vegimite toast and drinking millo and milk! oh nostaligia!

She forgot a Bug's Bunny prototype named Happy Rabbit from the 1938 short Porky's Hare Hunt which was a remake of Porky's Duck Hunt which marked the first appearance of Daffy Duck from the previous year. I GOT THAT FROM DAVE LEE DOWN UNDER.
