My wife and I very much enjoyed finally meeting you in person. You are as delightful in person as online. I really appreciated your anecdote about your grandparents, and relating that to our understanding (such as it is) of history. It's a good reminder that these were all real people with real lives, and not just extras on some grander historical drama, which is about all we get from the past. Also, I loved the Chinese take-out box "artifact." What a hoot!

Looking at your map around 1.40, it seems like the 'middle east' southwest of the caspian and northeast of suez and southeast of Constantinople should just be called "The Middle" and not "The middle east." Abraham was an immigrant from Ur who settled in Hebron. He was blessed by a local king for his service in war. Irish annals identify the king of Golgotha in the time of Amenemhat III as Ogamhan. Ogamhan fought a civil war among the Phoenicians between the sons of Nenual and the sons of Niul.

I am scientist and I love history and theology, I am curious about the historical Abraham and moses, in theological narration they have done significant things worth notable in history of their respectful regions and still we dont have any archelogical evidence for their existance, Many of my science buddies who are not following any of religion regard all the theological figures from Abraham to Moses as myth produced to by Isrealiets to unjustly comit genocide to the existing civilization already prevailing in palestine. I listened once to a Yale course and it was argued that the group who separated from the rest of Caanan tribes and became Jewish was, at least for a while, not very different from them, it was a gradual process of cultural and social differentiation. This makes the story of exodus and conflict after leaving Egypt quite different, if true. Thanks for your dedication and scholarship.

From a non biblical approach it’s been pretty much confirms that Israelites are a branch of Canaanites. So an Ugarit people who’s ancestors have been in the region (ironically) even longer.

I would like you to know Mr. Abramson that Παλαιστίνη is derived from the Greek word for wrestler, Παλαιστίς. That of course links to the name Israel as you know. Thank you very much for your videos.

Dr. Henry, what is the evidence for the three areas that you circled? I was told that it is a mystery where the people went. I presume that they are the diaspora Jews of Near East and India. Am I wrong?

He was an Aramean from a place called Aram and they spoke Aramaic as their mother tongue. Arameans were a branch of the people who lived in the region we now call Syria./Syrians. Yes, that is correct. Abraham was a sort of tribal nomadic head. Perhaps a king of sorts. He traveled with a huge household including guards, fighters/soldier types. They were called iviru or ibiru etc. which is what they would answer when the indigenous people of the portion of the Southern Levant would ask them as to who they were and where they came from. They would say, " we are the people from the other side of the river " / Ibiru. The indigenous people of the area were the ancient Natufian culture; Archaeological culture of the Levant, dating to around 15,000 to 11,500 years ago. They were farmers. At some point they further mixed with the Ancient Iranians and thus became the original "Canaanites." Over time these people mixed with Greeks, Arabs, Egyptians and some other peoples. The Jebusites were one of their branches. The Jebusites owned the Jerusalem ( Yerushalim/ Yerusalim and that general area. Their king was called Jebus. Abraham made a sacred treaty with them and it was inscribed on a huge statue, for all to see. The treaty of non aggression towards them; the Jebusites was broken to some extent by Joshua and later by David, who became King.

With all due respect Dr. I would disagree with you Abraham would have been about 3100 BC. 5784 Jewish year - 2024= 3760 BC. They were called Chaldeans weren't They. Abraham of Ur of Chaldea? Herodotus wrote about the Chaldeans priests in Babylon. Then they were called Ioudai (ee-ouh-they/ee-ou = Jew)

The Biblical narrative always talks of an individual, eventually a family or a couple of those, traipsing from Mezopotamia to the present day Israel, then to Egypt, then back to the "promised land." But for every family that may have migrated to Egypt, surely there would have been many families that chose to stay put. So when Moses and his tribes returned after several generations, they would have encountered and waged war on their own brethren. Weren't the Canaanites the same Hebrews, merely different by having remained in Canaan, and having developed their own culture and customs in the meantime? Didn't they speak the same language? The same goes for Phoenicians (aka Philistines).
