This is the Origins of the Man of Sin. Emperor Constantine's motto was: One God, One Lord, One Faith, One Church, One Empire, and One Emperor. That is the same motto which is still being used today in a more subtle way. Instead of One Emperor, it is now One Pope. The word Catholic means one. One universal church.
This first Roman ecumenical council was held in the city of Nicaea, hence the name of the council, in the year 325 AD. The objective was to bring all the Christian factions into one. At the end of the Nicene council session, it was agreed for all to adhere to The Nicene Creed, and the official name of Catholic was adopted for the church.
This church was meant from the very inception to be a universal church spanning the length and breath of the globe. In recent times from 1962 to 1965, the Roman church once again held an ecumenical council to bring all the churches into one. Since that time gradually all the churches have been marching back to Rome.
You may recall a few years ago a Roman Catholic bishop by the name of Tony Palmer, made an impassioned plea to the evangelicals for them to return to the mother church. Since then the churches have accelerated their march back to Rome.
