When I was a paramedic and precepted intern paramedic students, if were learning 12-lead interpretation I'd lead off with "Ideally, you want to see a balanced amount of uppie-downie tracings as side-to-side ones..." 🤣 It kind of took the edge off their anxiety a bit
As a nurse who works on the orthopedic floor anytime we get a patient with diabetes it’s usually a mess. Half the time the doctor will give up after attempting to put the orders in (wrongly) like 7 times and ultimately order ‘family/patient may administer per home regimen’ or just consult endocrine. Lol
@@drleishaobo I can say sth similar as a PT. I don't want to read those nightmarish lines, and they manage to come back every semester in different subjects! 😭 That and tracts. Isn't anterior spinthalamic tract enough? Why do we have to study the other ones too?
Jonathan was studying at night med school all these years and has jus finished his residency at the one 24 hour critical care ophthalmology clinic in the country. He's now setting up a rival clinic across the road...
My ortho was due to deliver her baby any moment, still performed my 8 hour hip surgery, had her ortho husband assist in case her water broke in the middle of it. Delivered the day after. Mad strength, bro!
As a psychologist working in medicine, I have to get my MD boss to send out an official note that from now on, I want to be referred to as "feelings bro" by everyone on the team. Yes, I am female. Yes, I am still "feelings bro". Bring it on, docs!
True story. Had a round with 3 orthopedic attendings. Attending 1: Next patient had an a-fib with RVR Attending 2: Did you see the EKG? Attending 3: Too many squiggles, that's for medicine folks Attending 1: Wasn't it called irregularly irregular or something? Attending 2, 3: You are too smart I kept thinking about this video and how true of a representation it could be sometimes. They can fix squiggly bones, but care less about squiggly lines.
Radiology would like to have a word with the “who knows better about bones, bro?” statement….in a dark alley. At night. With sunglasses and a welding mask.
OMG new sketch request STAT, like the one when Bill was basically ready to start a fight club but starring Bones Bro and Imaging Bro, Ortho can blind radiology with a moderately bright bulb and hit him with a kettlebell, Radiology can sneak attack Ortho in the dark since they must basically have night vision by now
How do you fit all the drama and comedy of a half-hour TV show into 2 minutes? With only yourself as cast and crew? Feelings Bro’s creeping sense of things having gone badly wrong in the last few seconds was gold 🏅
Mad respect to orthopedic surgeons. Had to go to a shoulder specialist to get my torn AC tendon in my shoulder repaired. Took me a while to find a doctor because unlike most doctors, where you get sick and they give you medicine, with an ortho specialist, you have to trust another human being to repair your broken and deformed body. I found that thought just terrifying. So mad props to their knowledge and professionalism. Very high demand too. We were talking about Covid, and the doc was saying that he can't afford to get it because then, he won't be able to work with his patients.
Well I broke my tib/fib...had a "compound fracture," which I choose to call "shit, my bone is sticking out of my leg, and I just got whoever was on call. I woke up in hell with a titanium rod and screws and a doctor with the worst bedside manner ever!! Very traumatizing. So I decided to break the right ankle and get surgery in a different state, didn't want to make the same mistake 🙃
@@sunnyside7369 well my body allowed me to break tripping off of a curb in a city with better medical care. I have has 9 surgeries not counting oral stuff. North Dakota was good to me medically
This all works great till you're a woman. Ortho bro isn't so good with women. To him, we're just mysteriously breaky, probably because we're fragile and need protection and don't even lift, even when we do.
@@litsci1877 what do you mean fragile? More men break bones than women. Sure its because they do more stupid shit but still Now post menopause sure, women tend to have worse bone health (tho research shows its mostly connected to lack of excersise low weight and bad diet) but that's more on a physical therapists and other long term care specialists not orthopedic surgeons
To be fair, v-fib ( highly dangerous electrical pattern in an EKG, basically the heart is not pumping just kind of vibrating) does look like a giant squiggle!
Speaking as a person who lives with a physical disability, i just want to take this opportunity to give a little love to all the orthopedic surgeons and specialists out there. Because of your expertise and mastery of your discipline, I can live and function as well as any fully able person despite my physical limitations. Other doctors may be lifesavers but you are miracle workers. Loved the bit, had me rolling. thanks for showcasing ortho, and for putting a smile on my face.
Hilarious!! After spending many years in different hospitals with my diabetic husband and seeing every specialist possible, except Dr Pepper, & having every procedure possible, including a kidney transplant, I think it’s the Social Worker who really could use a therapy session. Thanks for your videos. They are great.
My 12 year old dog passed away not too long ago. I’ve felt massive guilt and no enjoyment out of anything. Thanks for giving me my first laugh. Just know somewhere out there, my dogs waiting to thank you for making me a little happier.
I'm so sorry :( My dog is driving me crazy as we speak, she woke me up super early, she wants to play tug of war CONSTANTLY, she cried and whined the whole time we were in the car and now she keeps crying to go outside and then refuses to go once I open the door for her because she wants me to come with her (I just walked her half an hour ago). Your message reminded me to appreciate her despite that. At least she keeps me physically fit lol.
Thanks for the feelings bro’s expression when he realizes his therapy is creating unintended consequences…first time I ever saw him looking really uncomfortable
Down at the fracture clinic, my surgeon told me the whole story of my 15 hrs operation in 15 seconds. My mind blown when she told me they took an hour break in the middle! Then she told me it was to have a meeting to discuss how were they going to work on the other side of my body. I just know they were food served in that meeting 😏
Be glad they had food. Low blood sugar makes brains not work right. You needed them to be thinking clearly. Taking a break to figure out the best surgery plan for the other side was probably a good idea too. Once surgery starts they can see more about the physical situation so they had to make sure whatever they did would work right for your body.
@@laurahardgrove955 what caught my attention was that my stitches smelled like curry ☝️😲 Lol. Jk. I know you’re right. I had other follow up operations with the same surgeon. She is fantastic.
Dear Dr. Glauc, Thank you for helping this layman learn new medical terms and specialties in the healthcare system. So very much appreciate your sense of humour and absolutely adore you and your content. Hilarious!
I am on an ortho rotation at the moment and I am amazed every day at how intelligent, capable, and hardworking these physicians are. There's a reason why ortho remains as one of the most competitive specialities because their work is complex and demanding. These stereotypes are a little exaggerated and I hope nobody falls into believing that orthopods have only big biceps, but not brains lol. Orthos are insanely smart individuals and I have huge respect for them.
Can you explain where the idea comes from that orthopedic surgeons are less smart than other doctors? Wouldn't replacing bones requiring quite some knowledge of bodies? And like, being a doctor in general?
@@daan8695 during med school orthopods are some of the smartest in the room. You need excellent board scores, research, strong letters of rec, etc…it is considered one of the most difficult specialties for med students to apply and match into. So orthopods were at the top of their class in most cases. However, after you start residency you focus so specifically on surgery and the management of sports/hand/spine/oncology/trauma/shoulder/elbow/arthroplasty that the other stuff gets left behind. So to other doctors we seem dumb because we forgot all the basics that even med students know. But in actuality we are just super sub-specialists with a special focus….long story short they call us dumb and we say we tested out of that other stuff. But its all fun and games. We love med bros deep down. The gym stuff comes from the stereotype that former athletes or people in shape who go into med school tend to flock to ortho because it has everything to do with a body in motion Hope that helps….bro
I think it's because the specialty attracts a certain type of people, who perhaps are competitive by nature but not very nerdy (compared to other doctors)
NGL the two smartest people I know are BOTH hand surgeons or "hand dentists" as some docs on Twitter call them lol. One of them went to Swarthmore and was Valedictorian and the other went to Yale for his undergrad, Yale post grad, and also did his residency at Yale, which I hear is pretty rare to do all 12 years there and they both did their fellowship at Brown U. Not sure how many applicants Brown gets for that fellowship but pretty sure it's hundreds and they only pick 1 or 2 ppl a year. In ortho the only specialties that require additional training after residency is hand and spine. I chose to be a chef, WTF was I thinking?!?!?!
As a psychologist, I must applaud your therapeutic skills. I love these skits so much! Should I start referring to psychologists as "feelings bros" when I teach treatment in my undergrad classes? Yes, I think so. I eagerly await your "inpatient psychiatrist goes to therapy" skit!
OMG, please do couples therapy! Ortho and medicine, anesthesia and surgery, nephro and cardio, you could go hog wild 😁 Edit: Wow this really blew up overnight, thanks so much Glauc Flock for the support, and a heart from Dr.G! Maybe my dream will come true 😁 Edit edit: Apparently my heart disappeared simce I edited my comment, but I know it was there, I know he saw it. There is hope for couples therapy yet my brothers and sisters!
My OTP is Pathology/Radiology 😔✌️ They both live in the basement with Jonathan and that neurosurgery intern, so they seek comfort in each other's embrace 🥲
@@monkiram I finally figured out why when I read "The Body Keeps the Score". I've experienced various traumas since I was a child, and the emotions connected to them are locked in my muscles. Doing yoga releases those emotions too quickly for me to process them correctly. Maybe I'll be able to do yoga someday, but that day won't come for years.
I hope orthopedic surgeons get this confident in our hospital so that we don’t have to admit their patients post surgery cus “they have history of pre diabetes “ 😂
This was good and very funny! And the tables turned..... anxiety and confidence swapped bros! Seriously, frozen shoulder survivor here. Frozen shoulder followed after falling on ice..... After a long life 48 of no pain I had entered sudden electrocution type pain. The inability to have good sleep joined the vicious cycle of continued inflammation. It was a deep, dark valley that I traversed with the help of God. Finding a good doctor is a blessing from above. One injection and super smart pt got me back to normal. So thankful!
I enjoy these videos way too much!!! I work in the OR and it’s entertaining thinking of these shorts while interacting with the surgeons and med students ! Thanks
As a med student in her final year, whose dad is a nephrologist, mom is a gynecologist, sister is an ophthalmologist, dad's brother is a cardiologist, mom's brother is a cardiologist, mom's brother's wife is a pediatrician, I greatly appreciate all these videos. Btw I'm interested in anesthesiology myself 🤭
I'm glad you're on RU-vid. You add something to our bettering in understanding the departments of medicine as well as the lifestyles There's been nothing like this so I appreciate you as well as your medical survival to get here. God bless you.
“Danger squiggles” so accurate! But I love when they stand next to anesthesia or hospitalist while they interpret and nod in agreement like they’re just getting a second opinion.
"Feelings Bro" is what I'm calling every counselor or therapist I ever have for the rest of my life. Almost makes me wish I was in therapy so I could do it right away.
