What's so messed up is, for healthy people our "safe place" is where we can let our walls down, be comfortable, and be vulnerable. A narcissist's "safe place" is the place they can drop the friendly facade, and treat those closest to them like crap.
Covert narcs can appear to be kind, humble and generous, but are cunning, manipulative, and hide their true feelings. They rarely disagree with someone face to face and will talk about it to others behind their back. Coverts are dangerous, as you don't know what they are thinking and when they will attack. It catches you by surprise, leaving you wondering why. If I had a choice, I would choose an overt over a covert. At least, I could be 2 steps ahead and know what to expect. Coverts cause more harm than overts because they eat away at you slowly. They are "sheep in wolves clothing"

When you first meet a covert narcissist they are so sweet innocent and childlike there’s a magical quality to them they are the closest thing to a fairy 🧚♀️ that you will ever meet in the real world at first they motivate you and make you feel like anything is possible but as time goes by they slowly start to take a more sinister turn and when the mask comes all the way off you come to the shocking realization that this person was no fairy they were a goblin in disguise the whole time.
I'm a 56 yr old big strong and very much aware man that almost physically died and was destroyed emotionally to the point of being broken. I tell my friends that I am damaged. I have fears and mental "blocks" that mimic the behavior/Tactics of my recent ex of 33yrs. Will be making appointments for therapy. Its very difficult today to accept that evil exists. There is no fix, no solution. The pain of loss equals the thought of being back with them. I am trauma bonded. I have often wished that I would have left 10yrs earlier "being younger" . If it would have happened 10yrs earlier I would have always questioned myself "am I the problem ? I could have done more ? If I were only stronger? Covert/Introverted Narcissist's will actually watch this video and project it upon their victims. Reminds me of the movie " Angel Heart ". How many people commenting are actually the Narcist ? They will look/blame everyone not realizing they are the evil. My ex used Fear and being the victim and anyone or thing that would try to help she would destroy. Very difficult to realize that your life with them has been a lie you told to yourself. I think I'm typing this to re-enforce what I myself find so difficult to believe. THERE IS NO FIX. NO SOLUTION. I feel your pain, my friend. I was with my son's mother for 23yrs, and no clue why she such a raging, lieing, cheating bitch 24/7..until I started researching her behavior a year before we split for good. She's got so many levels of narcissism, I'm surprised she can hide her horns and tale so completely. The things she did, and said to me, were actually evil. "Someone who intentionally causes pain and suffering to another person..for ANY reason, is evil." She cheated so many times, in every way and with every person that fell for her superficial charm..I don't know if my son is my son, or my nephew. Yes, you read that right. A year after we parted, I was so..hollow, I started abusing HARD drugs, not thinking of suicide, but to numb the pain and kill my emotions. That's when I met a younger version of my ex, but had no clue at the time. After what I thought was a euphoric time, she slowly started to show her red flags..and then I saw her horns. She always said she was nothing like my sons mom..she was right..she is 10x worse, and idk how that's even possible. My sons mom is 45, this girl is 28..and I'm 50. Yeah, judge away..I don't care. The younger has a body count that's twice of the older..and you'd never see it, for she's perfected the superficial personality. You meet her and are instantly taken by this sweet girl with hypnotic eyes. I just recently ended things, when I learned alot from HER OWN FAMILY! She's clueless I know so much. After months of mostly silence, now she wants to talk about "us"..acting like the sweetheart I fell for. Dealing with the older has armed me for war..intend to shatter her ego this weekend when we "talk". Stay strong, yes seek therapy and spend time with people who make you laugh and feel appreciated. I healed, after 2 years..now, I have to do it again, but this time I know how to handle it. Good luck, and remember..these are NOT human beings. Eventually, you'll see what I mean..then, you'll feel so grateful for being alive and be looking forward to life again. You can heal, just don't give into memories..these will set you back. My ex-husband is an introvert covert narcissist, he have the gut to accuse me with the police lying that I was punching him. the police took don't even ask me me nothing and took me out of my home and bring me to the police etc. You can imagine the rest... This is painful for me to write but I am doing this with the hope that everyone could see what EVIL MONSTERS, they are and avoid them and go to no contact forever like me. Yes, yes, yes. Once you've been around one too many covert narcissists, you start spotting them easily. They're the "shy, quiet" ones who don't talk much, but they sit there and glare and roll their eyes at everyone they envy. If you have a hunch that someone you know is one, just watch them from the corner of your eyes. You'll be surprised and disgusted, if not hurt by how they actually view you behind their fake facades.
If your partner/spouse is a covert narc & over time you realized this - my advice is to read up on this subject. Keep your boundaries in place, ignore their mood swings, grey rock them when needed, start doing things you enjoy & do them with or without them. Take advantage of their silent treatment & go about your day. Don’t give in to them. Don’t go along with things you don’t want to do.

My now ex-wife is a covert/malicious/malignant passive aggressive narcissist. She discarded me after a 27 year relationship and a 25 year marriage just before I was forced retired. She arranged to have me served with 71 pages of divorce papers as an "Anniversary Present" on the exact date of our 25 year silver wedding anniversary. She was all about the abundant resources and supply that I provided for decades for her and our children. She wanted nothing to do with me for years and especially after I retired. She drained the bank accounts, caused me to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in lengthy divorce proceedings and settlements, lied under oath and in sworn testimonies before the court, filed false police reports, and by her own declarations wanted me "bankrupted and ruined". After nearly a year of legal hell I am finally divorced from her and have never been happier as I am recovering, surviving, and beginning to thrive despite having most of my wealth nefariously and unnecessarily depleted. These creatures are emotionally damaged black holes and energy vampires who cannot never happy, fixed, or satisfied. They lie, cheat, and steal while simultaneously claiming to be a victim. At their core they are selfish and evil by CHOICE.

The hardest part (for me) was getting past the denial. Took me 10 months (and no contact) to get my head around what I was dealing with in her (sister). And that was just the beginning of the struggle. There's intense anger at myself too for having seen the warning signs for years that I chose not to accept. It's three years now since I've seen her. But make no mistake these people are evil and will destroy you.
When you bring up something to them that was damaging to the relationship that they clearly caused, and then being told, "That is just your past your going off of." As if it's your fault the narc did what they did and blame shift. They will never admit under any circumstance. They are pure evil.
Every place my ex worked she would complain how stupid or incompetent everyone else there was. Her big mouth earned her a reputation as being a troublemaker and no one wanted to work with her. She had zero empathy for anyone around her including me. I am so happy she is out of my life.

Yes, dealt with one , still shaking with anxiety and traumabond... frig I knew nothing at the time, and still trying to get myself to believe it with a trauma bonded mind and cognitive dissonance repeatly, to help myself keep away. It is their dismissiveness. It can be subtle like an upturned lip or more overt like a turning of the head but you sense you are being or have been dismissed. These introverted types cannot help it, its one of their only tools when you first meet them or maybe later in the acquaintance but you will feel it fairly early.
Mine had that way of using a look that let me know I was being ridiculous in his eyes. No hot matter how how valid my complaint - (he could have just insulted me), he would give me that look and it would be all I could do not to react to it. Sadly, I think I mostly failed and not reacting to it.

Oh my goodness the subtle dismissiveness (when you try to explain it to people they don't get you and think you are overeacting or being too sensitive), on top of all the passive agressive behavior, gaslighting, silent treatments, projecting, blame shifting, twisting reality.. and when I would confront it to no avail I would at times explode, the person was always presented to be the victim.. telling people that I am always judging them, accusing, and assuming bad motives. Spreading lies about me that I was mistreating them and abusing them. Despite of all the other things they did which I have not mentioned which they never took responsibility for any of it at all!!

She didnt ruin much in my life, it was rather a lesson in covert narcissism. I lived with an introvert Covert Narcissist for almost 50yrs. Everything you say applied to him and more. He was every single thing you said. Hence my procrastinating and self sabotaging of a beautiful friendship I had found. 4 years after parting from my ex. I was too afraid of serious harm being done to me or worse to my friend. My friend should not have to be put in such a situation. I very messily ended the friendship. My ex will never give me peace to move on or be happy. I also fear the degree to which he would go to make awful things happen. At 72yrs. It is much harder to keep up with all the drama.
They imagine things and live in an imaginary world. When they realise they are just dreaming of possessing things that do not exist they get full of hatred. Demons living in delusion are they. "Paranoid "is the right word to describe those animals. I believe they are born to suffer within so they try every possible way to make those who are born happy be in pain.
My ex friend would probably be considered more covert. She isn’t at all introverted, in fact she is extremely friendly and helpful. She can seem like the sweetest, kindest and most generous person in the neighborhood. The category she really falls under is communal narcissist. I just suggested her narcissism is much more covert, or hidden, because of how good she was at hiding it. It took me more than 12 years of being her friend before it was pointed out to me that she was a narcissist.

@@somethinggood9267 well, this may sound crazy to you, but it was a tarot reader who told me she was a narcissist. No kidding, that’s how I learned. I had a reading (I think this was maybe the 3rd time I had visited her), and I asked a question about my friendship with this person. We had already had our final falling out, and I had decided to end the friendship before the reading. Regardless, I asked the question, and the tarot reader told me I needed to stay away from her and that she was a narcissist. And I found it hard to believe the tarot reader when she first said this. But since that time (this was last September), I started researching online and on RU-vid about narcissism and the different types of it, and the more I learned, the more I realized the tarot reader was right. My ex friend IS in fact a narcissist. She used to verbally abuse me from time to time to the point I would be in tears. I was beginning to think there was really something wrong with me. But after I learned the truth about her, it all made perfect sense. My friend also had an extremely fragile ego, and she had no sense of humor whatsoever. One time she yelled at me because she said I was being too snarky, and she went on to say “And I don’t deserve that!!!” Another time when I questioned her behavior about something, she immediately put the blame back on me. She would say, “well sometimes when I’m pushed....” And it got to the point that when I was around her, I felt like I had to walk on eggshells so I wouldn’t say something that would set her off. She also used to love to play the martyr (as many narcissists do) and say things to me like “I went out of my way to make you feel comfortable” blah blah blah. I could go on and on, but I’ve already talked long enough. And I know it may sound very bizarre as to how l learned this person was a narcissist, but there we are. I’m just so much happier to have her out of my life.

great video! one thing is for certain, for a Narcissist to damage or hurt you or control you, you have to get personally and emotionally involved with them. It's our personal motivation that the Narcissist knows very well is required for them to do what they do to us! If you never get emotionally invested in them they're pretty much powerless as a narcissist.

Here is a good one! There was a narcissist couple, the husband is extrovert, and the wife is introvert. They both have no boundaries! Like if you made a decision, they will try to question why and suggest you to do something else! It may look like they are trying to help, but you will feel it when it come to a point. That’s a sign that they think they are better, they even know better about your situation than you know about yourself. Which is extremely arrogant and proud. They can’t stand differences, not happy or excited to know different life styles and don’t respect it. Both are very materialistic and thin skinned. Also both highly want to be in control. You still can see the introvert one get irritated easily when things are not in order or not what she wants.

I had an aunt like this. Very buttoned-down, proper and reserved in public. In private, she scared the rest of the family because they knew how vicious she actually was. If my uncle (who was also somewhat narcissistic) had tried to divorce her, she'd have gone after him hammer and tong. They had a sham marriage, and blamed me for it. If they hadn't hated me, they would have hated their children. They had to blame someone other than themselves. They hated each other. They really hated each other.
Yes I just got out of a relationship with one. For me it's how cold and detached they can treat you. Was immediately seeking a replacement. I think to me that's what hurts the most. Excellent job on this talk. I agree that education on narcissists and sociopaths is absolutely necessary. I agree that covert introverted narcissists are the hardest to spot. I was with one for 6 years and only figured out 12 years after I left that I was dealing with a covert narcissists. She was exactly how you described her. She was so good at her manipulation and made it very difficult to call her out on anything, which for me, was hard to do because I'm a recovering codependent who had a really difficult time calling people on their behavior. On occasion when I would call her on her behavior she would shut me right down because that is what happened to me as a kid. She thought she hit the jackpot with me. I was easily manipulated. I'm so lucky I found it in me to leave when I did and she made it very difficult. I knew it was a survival thing on my part and she wanted kids and I knew that wasn't a good thing with her. After finally figuring out who she was I was full of rage for having been in a "relationship" with someone who was craftily taking me down little by little on a daily basis and who would've eventually destroyed me if I had stuck around. The anger was then replaced by gratitude for having survived and left her when I did. I realized how lucky I was to have gotten away. I think even if people are educated on this topic that it is still very hard to identify one when you are with them because they are so crafty at what they do to their targets, but at least you will have a heads up. You're right, covert introverted narcissists are the most dangerous.They are masters at their trade.

Yes understanding what type of snake you are dealing with is very helpful because before that knowledge we can't comprehend that there are such people in the world. However even knowing about them doesn't make you immune to them. I was taken in by a few of them even after knowing what a narcissist is because they are that good at what they do. I thought one was a codependent like me and fell for the damsel in distress. The other one mirrored me perfectly and I thought what a kind and considerate person. At least I eventually caught on and was absolutely devastated when I figured them out. I thought they were such lovely people. At the time I wasn't greatful for any of these narcissists, including my ex, but now I'm really glad I've had all the experiences I've had with these narcissists and sociopaths because there is nothing like first hand experience to truly help people to really understand them. You can watch to all the youtube videos or read a bunch of articles but there is nothing like actually experiencing these behaviors first hand to truly understand there manipulations.

This truly hit home for me. I left my covert introverted narcissist husband 5 months ago, but questioned if I was the problem as he made me believe. I have recently finished counselling therapy where the counsellor recognised my husbands narcissistic characteristics. This led me to research what narcissism is and this is the explanation that explains my husband. It is sad as the narcissist will knew admit their flaws. You can’t overcome what you don’t acknowledge.

Comorbid means more than one thing, like mental illness and substance use, but it can also mean more than one personality disorder in the cluster. If someone has a personality disorder, it would be very rare to not also have at least some of the traits of another (or other) personality disorder(s) in the same cluster.

The introverts are dangerous, and as awful as the extrovert. Spot on when you identify them as pathological liars🤥.. When I see or sense the silent treatment from another adult. They’re dead to me, I ignore them back immediately. Not what I like doing as I believe we should be nice to people and they should treat you same but such is life, and Narc are not normal people.
@S Just because someone isn't talking to you or acknowledging you doesn't mean they're a narcissist. I don't talk hardly at all to anyone. When I talk to people, they act bored or offended. Some individuals (such as myself) see no need to try communicating with most people, since they're just going to be treated like a bore, likely have nothing in common with most people, or are just going to be probed by the other person in the conversation for some way to be taken advantage of. A lot of people (e.g. me) feel extreme anxiety the second they walk out the door too, since other people not only feel entitled to them talking, but expect that person to be just like them. Try stepping outside your little hyper-social, no compassion american bubble, ignorant ass.

OMG. This describes my ex boyfriend to a T. He is definitely an Introvert covert narcissist. You described every single one of his behaviors especially the silent treatment. He would literally give me the silent treatment for 2-3 months at a time. You heard me right...months. Then he would text me and act like nothing ever happened. Weird. I now have no contact with him. I don't miss the treatment I got from him. I'm free now

Mine ghosted me 2 days in a row. He was supposed to come over to my house. No show no call no text. Except for the second morning when he text and said he fell asleep early the night before and would be over around lunch. And again no show no call no text. My wife played nice for a week, then called the cops on me and falsely accused me of psychologically abusing her and our 3 year old daughter when she was the one doing it for years! They took my daughter away, I had to pay 10 k bond and risk loosing my military benefits forever because of her líes. They are true evil! Leave while you can! Save your self and your life.
I did in my case I called the police on her for physical and mental abuse, now in our Country there is a double standard when it comes to apply the law, somehow she never got arrested while I demonstrated to the court that she abused me physically and mentally and was unfaithful a bunch of time and im the one whos traumatized and pts im damaged c ant trust anyone after this mate.
An accusation of psychological abuse alone doesn't get a person arrested EVER... 🤨🤨This doesn't add up, kind of a weird allegation. Or missing massive details at the very least and abusive people tend to minimize things so you're throwing up a few red flags just in your statement here. Most of us survivors are also well aware that vulnerable narcissists find narcissistic supply in playing victim. So again just kind of odd

I'm sorry that men aren't believed is often as it should be we watch this Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial going on and it's very clear who the abuser is in this situation. There are those who are hurt and just chose to walk away once the trust is gone and say nothing at all (no explanation no drama or telling the secret they've heard) it's a waste of time to stay in the same place or with the person who doesn't value you for who you are but instead use you for where those narcissists what to go and achieve in life .

I believe I have lived with an introverted narcissist, very reserved, quiet and charming to others... only I know the truth, his parents think he has depression, other issues but will not address them. He is dangerous and violent, a prolific liar, secrets galore and evasive, he does not talk, he does not work he is comfortable and spoilt, I know he is not capable of working! He has addictions mainly drink, but i knew 3 years ago he had worse addictions and stopped committing to him but we share the same house, I live abroad and trying to get home during covid, it has been hell and a real challenge and I am still not free yet and when I move I know he will stalk me, I cannot give him any clues. Now he stays out all the time, only returns to sleep and pretends to have stayed at his parents. I feel sorry for him, he's vulnerability made me stay longer but when he rages he is out of control, I know he has others to play with now, as his rages have quietened down, suddenly he wants a quiet life for the last year,. I have watched so many videos. So so many. Only this one very accurately describes my experience. Each and every point hit home. Most descriptions of this disorder require you to accept some traits and behaviors apply and some do not. Not this one. Each and every statement was eerily familiar. Thank you for your validation. I do know one, I was married to him, he discarded me twice, he is an ungrateful. Selfish, pathological, lying money grabber. I often describe him as a snake, so he fits your video perfectly. U are so spot on, u described him so well, and because of the charming quiet shy side to him, I do doubt myself sometimes, that he isn't a narcissists, so I have to watch these videos to remind myself he is a monster 👹
Evil people have a lot of nightmares because they refuse to recognize the symbolic messages their subconscious is trying to teach them. The subconscious persists and then the nightmares become more and more convoluted, which makes it easy for the narcissist to read into them, starting a vicious cycle of psychotic and paranoid self-programming. This allows them to lie even about the context and meanings of their convoluted dreams.

I believe I have met one who was so introverted that I am still not sure I was dealing with a narcissist.... yes I think she was a narcissist bc l witnessed only 2 things or incidents that was too toxic for me to want to continue... just turned around and walked away.
Incredibly informative and interesting as always. My ex narc is a combination of intro and extroverted, especially depending on whether he is drinking (he’s a raging alcoholic which I didn’t even know about for many years). The looks of contempt and disgust are so terrible it’s like they are cutting your soul in pieces just by their eyes. I always knew something wasn’t right with him but it took me 5.5 years to define it. I’ve never in my life come across someone SO lacking in any type of real care or concern. The selfishness is outrageous. The passive aggressive verbal and non verbal crap they pull is just awful. I know I’m a pretty naive person to the world of evil people because it’s so hard to imagine someone deliberately being such a way. Thank you again for what you are doing to help us all. Every narcissist that I was with appeared to be introverted at first, especially my ex husband, he was almost labelled as shy when we were kids, however he ended up being a very wicked and dangerous man to me... I am almost leary of all people that don't talk much or appearing to be an introvert... I would rather meet an extroverted narcissist, so that the extroverted narcissist can mess things up with me early on, than to ever meet and lay with the most dangerous narcissist 'The Introverted Narcissist'.. Narcissim is such an epidemic its sad. I used to be a people person and care free but after dealing with a few of these characters.....I've become cold and closed off for my own protection. I don't take chances anymore and now my life is better. I miss becoming friends and meeti v with new people but nowadays the risk is too great.
You are spot on Clarice I just experienced this for 1 year & 3 and half months just finally started documentation on their behavior and started doing valid research on it just to discover the behavior factual checks out and we he realized I was on to the mask being removed then the devastating devaluing turned up even more the gas lighting increased And I knew he was already talking to another female while we was still together which he was lining up his next supply (which I did not let him know that I knew) and love giving silent treatment as punishment never want give any empathy to work out things but want to receive empathy and he then started the discarding. I’m going through my therapy and healing process and my walk with God is so much more deeper. The hell I went through I would not wish it on my worse enemy. But of course they make you look that you are the one that caused the relationship to break down but so I doo ok my care I just thank GOD I’m free from the abusive relationship. Thank God he’s giving me my joy, my peace, and my power back. Ephesians 3:20, Psalms 91, Psalms 23, John 3:16, and Romans 12:1-2, and Isaiah 53:5 I’m standing on God’s WORD for total restoration and healing. I just pray for all who have gone through this and who will have to face this storm and even pray for the abusers.

I am now healed after 24 years and beating cpts with therapy from an 18 year relationship followed by almost 3 years later ( by then I was well versed in narcs but hadn't healed and refused to accept I had cpts) a further 3 year relationship.
