Watch on Amazon: geni.us/TheOut...
Based on true events, in this military thriller, a small unit of U.S. soldiers, alone at the remote Combat Outpost Keating, located deep in the valley of three mountains in Afghanistan, battles to defend against an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters in a coordinated attack. The Battle of Kamdesh, as it was known, was the bloodiest American engagement of the Afghan War in 2009 and Bravo Troop 3-61 CAV became one of the most decorated units of the 19-year conflict.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Rod Lurie (The Contender, The Last Castle) and adapted by Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (The Fighter) the film stars Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones and Orlando Bloom with Jack Kesy, Cory Hardrict, Milo Gibson, Jacob Scipio, Taylor John Smith, Jonathan Yunger. Three troops who fought at COP Keating appear in the film including Medal of Honor recipient Ty Carter.
The Outpost is based on The New York Times best-selling non-fiction book, The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor from CNN’s Jake Tapper.

My cousin is in this movie. He’s the medic that goes running through the gunfire. He is an actual Afghan war vet, went to film school, the role happen to come up and he fit the bill for thee position. When he got the position, the director happen to get him the medic (guy my cousin was re-enacting in the film) phone number. So he calls him up and the guy just welcomes him to fly out to his house and hang out for a few days to get to know him so he could play his role correctly. He had a blast on the film, it was intense, many of the former military that were still actually ALIVE were on the set to help the director reenact the various scenes.

This is, hands down, the best movie about war I think I've seen in many years. Very realistic and very graphic and needs to be seen. These men did the impossible with almost nothing. If it wasn't for the eventual air support they finally received, there is no doubt they would have been wiped out to the last man. God bless these men! Also, the end of the movie notes this this was the only battle were two men received the Medal of Valor in the same fight and lived. That is how bad it was.

Right?!? the first moment I saw that fucking hole( and it is a fucking hole) in the movie I was like holy shit how people got shitcanned for this monumental screw up didn't even need to know the casualty count because despite never serving in a military I could taste just how much it was going to hurt when the big one came. Honest to God the lack of KIA was a mix of luck, training and the lacking of AP ammo and priority targeting capability in the Taliban.

Jacob Whittaker I stumbled on the book this week and I’m into the last 1/4 of it didn’t know this movie was coming also just stumbled onto it looking for footage of the outpost to drive how awfully hard that was on the men there. I’m thankful to all that were there for all the did and gave for our country. It’s about the hardest story I’ve ever read and now that I’ve read through it the movie will probably be hard to watch as well. Hope they do show how hard that was no matter what’s shown there’s no way it can get all the bravery and trauma those there endured. I recommend everyone reads the book the author has done a good job making you have a decent understanding of the men he was with, which is why it made it hard for me to read. But I also feel it’s important for us to know these stories so we know how truly lucky we are to have men that volunteer to do the hard work to keep us safe and free in our own country

I just finished watching this movie, and it was awesome! One thing I can’t understand is the common denominator with situations such as this is they have only a few men, about to be overrun or no close air support. The question I have is why? If I was a military general or some other type of military leader, I would see to it the second one of my men looked up and saw thousands of enemy coming towards them like they did in this movie close air support should be just a few minutes away, not 40 minutes! Also be it CWIZ, artillery or whatever I would make sure my men were well protected, and had enough ammunition to invade a small country! Seems to me like situations such as this are avoidable but for some odd reason the idiot bureaucrats never seem to get it and a price is always paid in blood.

I love it that the director is including Lt. Benjamin Keating and Cpt. Rob Yllescas in the story... like Jake Tapper's book, the story of COP Keating starts well before the fateful battle in October of 2009. The battle of Kamdesh was a culmination of well meaning but terrible planning on the part of military leaders. And too many heroes paid for it.

COP Keating. I remember that place. I was there for a few weeks with the 173rd in 2007. Our platoon from B Co 1-503d was attached to B Troop 1-91. We moved down the valley to COP Kamu before we renamed COP Lowell. High Gound everywhere. Getting or not getting mail. Long walks up those trails patroling. ANA and ANP are useless as fuck. Run at the first sign of a fight. Nuristan, Kamdesh, Kamu, Sahret Kolay, and every other village there all those places were a waste of our time, resources, and American lives.

Basically the whole point of these outposts was to somehow route out the huge insurgency in Eastern Afghanistan; Particularly in Kunar, Nuristan, Nagarhar, and Laghman, which has some of the most difficult and treacherous terrain in the entire country. Dudes were literally in the middle of nowhere with no running water or electricity. The worst part of this region is the Korengal Valley, which killed more than fifty American service members from 2005 to 2010; And is the place of action for Operation Red Wings, and OP Restrepo. Nuristan itself was responsible for the Battle of Wanat and Battle of Kamdesh. Now ISIS inhabits this region, particularly in Nangarhar.

just finished this movie - the trailer doesn't do the film justice - the film is a way better than I expected. I had read "The Outpost" months before. The set-up to the main battle was very engaging - you get a feel of the characters - either you loved 'em or hated 'em - the Ty Carter character (Caleb Landry Jones) carries the film's emotional arc - he's very good and I rooted for him the whole time. There is a brilliantly funny scene wherein a soldier, who was about to take a shower, starts shooting back at the enemy - butt naked - the way the camera was set up for that was ingenious - it's an unforgettably funny moment. The combat scenes were intense - there's no let up - it's the best I've ever seen. The downsides were the computer generated Apache strikes (I wish there were better angles on those birds) as well as the lack of emotional suspense leading up to those airstrikes. The filmmakers should have devoted more time keeping the audience on edge until the bombs started to drop. Scott Eastwood is very engaging as well - he sounds just like his father - he had a winning on film on this one. Great film - up there with "Black Hawk Down".

FICTION vs. REALITY: The movie offers no explanation for it. The placement of an "Outpost," resourced so poorly in such a tactically unsound and "obviously indefensible" position, cannot be explained in any way other than to say it was purposefully placed there and the men manning it, pawns, used as magnets, to draw Taliban and other fighters to attack and kill American Soldiers. Each Soldier's death then parlayed into justifications to dole more billions of dollars from the US Treasury and into the troughs of the corporate war pigs that feed on war.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on this battle but I'd like to talk about the Obama years regarding Afghanistan. Obama picked a SF general to run his war and the assumption was that his recommendations would be light on troops but heavy on Special Forces guys. Gen McChrystal (SP?) wanted 40,000 more troops instead for his counterinsurgery plan. Obama cut that number by 25%. 25% Sooooo.... Long story short. The plan was to put bases around the villages and put troops in the hills/mountains patrolling to keep the Taliban away. Obviously we didn't have the troops for the patrols in the surrounding hills and the Taliban kept the high ground. By the way, McChrystal was later fired by Obama after his staff spent some time laughing and joking about Vice President Joe Biden's incompetence to a Rolling Stone reporter.

TheDaywalkersDad Your missed the fact that Bush and Cheney spend 7 years and $2 trillion looking for bin Laden. Under Obama, they finally found bin Laden in Pakistan and killed him in 2011. That should have been the end of U.S. in Afghanistan. Instead we’re still still burning about $100 billion a year in a place that has no point of end. Under Trump, absolutely nothing has improved and Trump can’t find Afghanistan on the map without someone drawing a big red circle like the map on which he didn’t know where Alabama was located.
