Pac8 would be a great call for these teams. Here’s why. Winner has a high chance to make playoff as a conference champion with less clutter. Each team plays 7 conference games which leaves them with 5 non-conference to schedule worthwhile marketable brands and big paydays. Oregon State Washington State Air Force Boise State Colorado State Fresno State San Diego State UNLV Convince Hawaii to go independent officially and have all of these teams visit Hawaii every year so they can negotiate the tv deal together and take major advantage of Week 0 play. 2 teams in California so they have solid recruiting eyes. Travel would be incredibly cheap and the rivalry games would shine quickly from actually visiting each other every year unlike larger conferences. As a policy move as many games with large ticket sales (mostly Boise State and key rivals) to larger cities and stadium (like Boise playing Fresno in SF) This would work to elevate this above the other G5 conferences which puts the PAC-8 in the Playoff every year. That’s the goal and you grow from there if you can.
Do you know how much it will cost the PAC to add those schools due to the schedule alliance between the PAC? That schedule alliance deal include a heavy penalty for each school the PAC takes from the MWC unless they take the whole MWC. Taking one to two teams would not be a problem, but taking any more than that would create a long term financial problem for the conference and schools.
@@EyeOfTheWatcheryou are correct, and AAC and SBC have penalties in place that are similar. The expenditures far exceed and outweigh any potential financial gain if any for schools to join some makeshift former PAC/former P5 now stuck as Non Autonomy Conference.
That’s not acceptable. Not for any OSU/WSU alum or fan. They take that deal, they can kiss their jobs and their lives goodbye. They’d be on a pike outside a burning Reser Stadium by the end of the day
It really depends on what programs value being a “power 5” program. As it stands the mountain west is still a go5. So it really depends on if they want to be seen as a “power 5” or not
I agree with your points, but they have a terrible football program. If they had even a decent football program, they would be scooped up by a power conference quick based on media market and blue blood basketball program.
Honestly I could see a lot of the teams in the airplane conferences making new conferences in 15-20 years to make them more regional again. Especially if some conferences split from the NCAA
They should merge with MW, two divisions. Mountain division, Pacific Division. New conference the Mountain Pacific Conference. Much better football than people realize in the MWC. New conference would own the west.
PAC 2 can and both Montana schools and all 4 Dakota schools. Now that's 8 total. Invite San Diego State, Fresno State, Sacramento State and Boise State. There's your new PAC 12... 2.0
Remove Sacramento State and Bring up Idaho. I think that would make the Pac 12 or Mountain west to fun to watch cause you got all these apex teams in the fcs moving up to the fbs and playing in the same conference that would make draw to much viewers to the pac 12. We could also see Boise State and Idaho become a big rivalry and Montana and Montana State becoming rivals with Colorado state and Wyoming. There’s so much potential here imo
With a 12 team playoff i could see this as a possibility. An undefeated or 1 loss pac 12 team i could see easily finishing top 12. Boise st is no joke. Sdsu always has talent and that west coast pac 12 after dark crowd will watch.
I enjoy your work A couple of things concerning San Diego State and . The THe Pac 12 did not reject San Diego State; the deal simply crashed when the Pac couldn't get a contract, they were ready to offer both SMU and San Diego State, That of course fell apart when the Pac-12 couldn't get a contrac they wanted and folded The Mountain West agreed to a $270 million media rights deal in 2020 with CBS and FOX, according to The Athletic. It would end after the 2025-26 season. Teams are scheduled to be paid $4 million per year. if I'm correct on that then there would be no fees if the Aztecs or other schools were to leave. if not it would cost them $17 million. now that would have been a hardship prior to Snapdragon. Snapdragon has been managed tremendously well and the revenue for the athletic department has gone from 65 million to 110 million and when MLS soccer comes in other revenue it is expected to reach 140-150 million year . Also as far as SDSU people boring you forget that they hired Sean Lewis and his wide open ,no huddle which he calls Aztec Fast offense. Lewis was very successful brining over some Talent at wide receiver and running back from the transfer portal and a lot of explosive players that he managed to recruit and also some excellent Offensive talent out of High school . they may struggle a little bit this year but you can be sure they'll be ready to go and fill the stadium in 25-26. Ask for the pac- 2 to putting together a conference from the Mountain West that just simply won't work. The payout is about 4. million a year from the current contract. Teams would have to Fork out 17 million dollars which means it would take them years just to recoup That investment at 7-10 million a year. Both Canzano and Wilmer have queried media people and they give an estimate of 7 to 10 million for the rights to a conference with Washington State, Oregon State and six to eight Mountain West teams. It's just not worthwhile particularly since the Mountain West is producing a lot of NCAA basketball money. Boise State would certainly not do that because they get close to 6 million dollars right now. If they had to pay out $17 million it would take them four or five years probably to recoup that. besides that they like their position of being the power in a small conference. OSU and WAZZU have a lot more than 65 million in total have 250 million between them but they're not going to spend that they're going to be Pennywise a nd pound Foolish, holding on as much as they can to it. In the long run as far as the Mountain West is concerned they're three teams that will probably be perennial at the top San Diego State, Boise State and UNLV( has finally come of age doing extremely well recruiting and I think will be be one of the three powers soon). Fresno State has a great coach but he has health issues stadium is a total mess and they keep trying to get money for it it can't do it. it's already taking a hit in recruitment. The Big 12 wants to expand but not West and might take in some of the Have Nots from the ACC if the ACC goes Belly Up. If the ACC were to lose four or five teams then it would make sense for them to look West and have fun Pac to Atlantic conference,. I can see that happening if they added Washington State, Oregon State, and San Diego State to Cal Stanford and SMU they would have a good Western Division and Eastern Division.
I think a dark horse candidate to make a move to a rebuilt ACC, provided it doesn't implode, or perhaps the Big 12 if it goes coast to coast, is Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers have been an outstanding mid major and could boost the status of the Carolinas depending on rivalries that survive in the never ending musical chairs of college football conferences.
The "New PAC12" does not have to get teams from the east coast if the ACC implodes. They could get six Mountain West teams and Stanford and Cal back making it a 10 team Conference.
If PAC 12 gets its automatic college playoff birth once it has 8 teams and signs the contract that would be motivation for teams to go to the PAC 12. Also the Money that the PAC 12 has is appealing as well as long as the current two teams are willing to share it equally.
@@kevinbond8966I doubt they would be if they are maybe looking for a more favorable way to get into the playoffs with a rebuild Pac 12 they may. It just depends on how things shake out with the ACC. Who really knows what is going to happen with movement. Also not specifically thinking of TCU but someone like that size that is looking for a landing spot.
I think its much more likely they wait for the ACC fallout till the last second, then either reverse merger with the MWC or convince 9 MWC teams to vote to fold the MWC pending a PAC invite. They will save possibly 100 million dollars doing this instead.
Let's be honest the pac 2 is dead period. San Diego State would probably head to the Big 12 while Oregon state and Washington State fail forward to the Mountain West.
this is what i think the most likely outcome will be. also fellow big “10” fan here, good luck to your buckeyes, im hoping my fighting illini can pull off a good season this year, that kansas game was exciting
Idk why they just didn’t take the 8 best schools from the MW and bring them into the PAC and rebrand back to being the PAC 10. That way they could have still had the Power 5 designation. Now I’m not so sure they will have that status. Just a weird situation.
Because the PAC commissioner wanted the same amount of money for the conference without USC and UCLA. Problem was that over 40% of the conference revenue and market share was generated by those two schools alone. Also, the existing members didn’t want any MWC schools because of their academics and branding. Basically, PAC schools were a bunch of elitists that kept getting in their own way. Adding 2-4 MWC schools probably could have kept them together post-USC/UCLA, but guess we’ll never know.
@@bronzeguy9839 Yeah that definitely sounds about right. I never looked fully into the situation. That just seemed like the most logical step to me. Better to have something instead of looking around with the pikachu face when everybody dips.
@@Pepisthe1they (the PAC crappy idiots of the 2 remaining members) have already been voted out of having Autonomy/Power Status. They cannot regain it. If the AAC who lost less schools and retained more and added more before being voted out of Autonomy and busted their asses to be the best G5/Non Autonomy Conference the past 11 years plus and unable to get Power/Autonomy Status back! Then there is no way the PAC can get back in power status. No former schools of the 10 are coming back, and the PAC can’t afford to raid any of the other schools from the Non Autonomy Conferences because of costs and fees and penalties among other issues. The Democrats of the PAC have ruined their conference just like this country. That’s truth. Furthermore, the ACC is not going to be like the PAC but be more like the Big12. They will add schools because have 8 or more remaining members plus the three new ones and Notre Dame influencers and thus retain Autonomy Status. The ACC will maybe even see a slight increase in revenue like Big12 did; once it was settled on when schools were leaving. Although not exactly how it unfolded with the Big12 Conference getting a slight increase from previous media contracts, is close enough. That means the possibility of both WazzU and OzzU, as I call them, being added as last two true remaining power/autonomy schools along with maybe 1-3 MWC schools to complete the western wing of ACC is pretty likely. There are at least two to three Gulf Coast schools that will be added and final adds along the Eastern Coast will happen to keep the ACC anywhere from 16 all-sports schools to 20 schools with Notre Dame being in for all sports still except football and men’s and women’s ice hockey. People keep saying that the PAC is a 108 year old conference, but it is not. It is more like 58 years old not 108. Could they rebuild the PAC? Maybe but will not be able to lure the best Non Autonomy schools from across America because financial expenditures and no monetary gain in short term or long term growth benefit. So the three options are: 1) full reversal merger with the MWC and possibly making Hawaii a full member if plausible. 2.) join the MWC and still operate as Autonomous Schools even though both are now in an Non-autonomous positioned conference and waiting for call up from either ACC or Big12. 3.) do exactly what Hawaii is doing as basically football only members in MWC and keep other sports in other conferences and again watch and wait for a call up to a P4.
They have already lost power status. Also they don’t have the War Chest and money to raid any G5 conferences. They either full reverse merger; which the MWC is a more efficient viable and valuable name and conference, or they create an Olympic sports only conference with PAC name and intent to become a FBS conference by 2026 with this season and 2025 in MWC for football only in schedule agreement like they have. The FCS schools they want to compete as FBS in the rebuild PAC begins the process come January 2025 announcement, thus the 150 million dollars in NCAA money they retain but have to pay back some of the 65 million dollars a piece each PAC-2 school got in settlement to the other ten former PAC12 schools because just missed the deadline. But if any of the above were to happen, should have been on the ball about it already.
What is the distance from Memphis to Los Angeles? I think it is 1800 miles. What is the distance from New Orleans to Los Angeles? I think it is about 1900 miles.
Here is what I think will happen on the ACC’s situation if it goes bad: the teams that chose to leave will either join the Big 10 or the SEC, or will just form their own new conference (god only knows how successful that idea will turn out). As for the PAC 12’s situation, it will be interesting to any Mountain West teams to join.
I can't EVER see the ACC going after someone like Boise State. Too many of the ACC schools care about academics too much to want to be associated with them. I'd say San Diego State is a stretch but that's more palatable when you factor in the travel problems. But they'll go after a Tulane or even a Rice or Tulsa before Boise State, no matter how attractive the athletics are.
There is a Huge penalty for adding MW teams due to the agreement Pac-12 signed with them to get scheduled fin 2024. $67 million for 6 teams. $20.5 for two. Additionally, add 6 MW teams and the Pac-12 becomes just another group of 5 conference. Boise State market is way to small. IMHO: invite San Diego State, Colorado State and pay the $20.5; add U of Texas San Antonio, North Texas (Dallas Forth Worth market), Tulane and Memphis. The following season, if needed add UNLV and Air Force without the financial penalty.
They died because they waited too long to add SDSU & SMU. They also could have knocked out The Big12 adding Houston, TCU, OK St. & Kansas when they had the chance. Poor leadership by the Pac 12.
WHEN the ACC implodes when FSU, Clemson, UNC leave the ACC & they backfill with teams like USF, Memphis, etc, the ACC TV deal is ripped up & Stanford & Cal to the ACC makes no sense. Come back to the PAC 2 + Stanford & Cal, then add 4 best MWC team like SDSU, Boise, Etc, that still turns into a strong G5 Conference.
20 teams, Super G5 rebuilt Pac: Oregon State, Washington State, Fresno State, Boise State, Tulane, Memphis, UNLV, San Diego State (first 8). San Jose State, New Mexico State, Air Force, Colorado State, North Texas, Rice, UTSA, Louisiana (next 8, get to 16 Western teams). Liberty, James Madison, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina (add 4 Eastern teams, split 10/10 West/East for 20-team conference).
If the Pac 2 was smart they would merge with Mountain West, keep the Pac branding then they add Tulane and Memphis. This makes it a 16 team conference and a legit case to be called P5
The people pulling the strings aren't doing what theyre doing to ACC just to get 2 teams out of it. They are breaking that whole thing up as the Conference Consolidation train continues full steam ahead.....
My idea for the PAC-12 (taken from a bunch of other people and built off of them) if we are talking about bringing teams up from the FCS level then it would be Oregon St, Wash St, NDSU, SDSU, Montana, Montana St, then from other conferences we got App State, JMU, Georgia State, Tulane, UTSA, USF, San Diego State, Fresno State
Here is something to speculate, hear me out, and no laughter here. The Pac-10 in 2026 consists of WSU, OSU, SDSU, and BSU those are obvious ones. But, they grab USU and Nevada from the Mountain West, then a couple of FCS schools like UM, MSU, NDSU, and SDSU [South Dakota] now that would be some football to watch. It'd be a conference to watch with all the teams besides a powerhouse like Boise State. The only thing that would kill them is the media that would broadcast it.
The Pac 12 needs new Northern California schools like Sacramento State & UC Davis to fill 🏈,🏀 and other sports as well to replace UC Berkeley and Stanford that went to the ACC
Ginger all the acc need to do is win, beating teams you think is best. Lil 12 done lost all it brand teams and back fill with group of 5. Acc added power 5 teams with good history and you condemn them calling the group of 5. Acc will be fine once Clemson and fs depart. Through out history team have won and lost, Alabama before Saban, Georgia before Smart, Clemson before Dabo and Michigan had thier bout. No one team is dominant. Don't know why you rhink lil 12 is better than the acc when both are in the same situation. Don't think espn will cancel acc when their network need games to broadcast. To drop the acc and back fill with group 5 will loose lot's of money. Espn could also pay the acc more money. Lots of possibilities looming. Just got to wait and see.
Then they add Montana State cause Montana and Montana State are a package deal and then you add Idaho and if you really want you can add Idaho State and there’s your new Pac 12
@@bb-mh3xb I think the best way to have fun college football is with rivalries and nothing is more headed then close by rivals. Adding the 4 apex predators in the fcs into the same fbs conference would be so fun to watch
@@bb-mh3xb same. Mainly cause I’m a Montana Grizzlies fan but i think rivalries are what make sports so fun to watch in general. Hope to see the old Pac 12 with new teams come together someday but I think this could be a good opportunity for the fcs schools to actually have success and build there next level fbs programs
Memphis has a check waiting written out from fedex to pay exit fees but its ACC or X12 for that payout. Noway in hell Memphis wants to travel to the pacific time games! Tulane probably feels tge same as does a USF! NO AAC TEAMS ARE COMING FOR THAT!
Pac 12 ie 2 could save itsefl if the ACC falls apart. Cal and Stanford will come crawling back. get Gonzaga would would give them 5 They need at least 3 more schools to be viable. Cal and Stanford will find travel expensive especially for the smaller sports and would be better off back in a re built Pac. Could be a half way decent conference But they do need some good football schools to meke it work. That's the issue no one that is any good will want to come to the Pac, maybe TCU or someone like that.
@@dustinsindledecker154I am not saying them as a football school but they could help with getting the conf stable. As I mentioned they would need a football program like TCU or someone looking that might have a better opportunity in a re built Pac.
@@ChaseEagleback Yeah, It makes about as much sense as adding a basketball only school, bringing up that Gonzaga doesn't have a football program after someone already did, or replying to the second guy that brought it up instead of the first.
I feel like San Diego State, Boise State and Fresno State are the obvious top choices from the MW - based solely on their football on field accomplishments. And i feel like all 3 of those schools allign nicely with both OSU & WSU in terms of academic institutions. Similar sizes/alumni base/ etc. We will see how their scheduling agreement plays out this season. That could be a strong indicator should the aggreement be successful.
PAC-12 NORTH Oregon State Washington State Boise State SOUTH San Diego State Fresno State University of Nevada Las Vegas EAST Colorado State Utah State Wyoming MILITARY Air Force Navy Army
Big 12 being picky was before Texas and Oklahoma leaving. Big 12 will be 2nd tier. Should they merge with the proper schools, Big 12 can have presence in the Northwest and California, at least be interesting.
@@megamakina Everyone not in big10 and sec are all 2nd tier at this point We will end up with 4 divisions of d1 football Platinum - sec and b10 Gold- big 12 & remainder of acc and a handful of other schools Silver- G5 schools Bronze- fcs But big 12 has positioned themselves to be the premier conference because of their current funding and tv deal, and their basketball funds, none of the other sub tier conference have that going for them To add schools to the B12, they will just be dividing the same amount of money amongst more schools equaling less money for each school unless the schools they add actually bring TV dollars through football or are on equal footing in football and bring in basketball dollars. Eg, VT might be in that boat, pitt, but the list will be fairly ahort
Boise St, San Diego St and BYU should be their choices out West and in the Eastern US it should be Appalachian State, UNC Charlotte ,University of Delaware, in Texas it should be UTEP & Texas State, Montana also
