The Pace Report: "Something Else" The Vincent Herring Interview
Welcome to another edition of The Pace Report featuring saxophonist and educator Vincent Herring.
Recently at Birdland Jazz Club in New York City Vincent Herring paid homage to Soul Jazz Music with his "Something Else" ensemble. He wanted to pay his respects to the soul jazz icons ranging from Grover Washington Jr. to Horace Silver to the Adderley Brothers. The group featured James Carter on Tenor Sax, Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Johnathan Blake on drums, Essiet Essiet on bass, and David Kikoski on piano.
In a impressive career spanning some four decades Vincent has been blessed to play and tour with the likes of Cedar Walton, Nat Adderley, Louis Haynes, Horace Silver, and Lionel Hampton.
Vincent and I sat down and discuss the origins of Soul Jazz, his mentor Nat Adderley, and how trumpeter Freddie Hubbard was a huge influence as a musician,
