Of all the songs that Linda Ronstadt sang, "Long, Long Time" is probably the one that hits me the hardest emotionally (every time I hear it)! The amazing thing about Linda (besides just how amazing her voice is) is how she can sing SO MANY different styles of music and make it sound as if that is the style, or genre, she has always done and mastered! As you said, even though she is no longer able to release new songs, at least we have a wonderfully vast catalog of music that she has recorded over the years. I enjoy watching your reaction videos very much, and I look forward to seeing more!

Harri, Linda was at the top through the 70's and part of the 80's. She can sing all styles of music. Country, Rock, Spanish, Opera, and she even did three albums of 1940's standards with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. No matter what she sings it's always amazing, and very commercially successful. Love you forever Linda.

Her live performances are always beautiful. This is one of her earliest hits and her music was very country tinged at that time. One of my favorite songs of Linda’s is a full fledged country tune written by Hank Williams called “I Can’t Help it if I’m Still in Love With You”. This video is actually a clip from the Glenn Campbell Show. My only objection to the live versions of this song is that they cut verses out to shorten the song for television. Still a beautiful performance. Thank you Harri 🌺✌️

@jondavwal13
@jondavwal13 Год назад
Karen Carpenter had a very pretty voice but that is where the comparison stops. By her own admission and by the accounts of everybody who worked with her, Carpenter's voice was tiny and was mostly manufactured in the studio. She was an extremely disappointing singer live. Her range was also extremely limited. She had a smooth delivery and a beautiful tone. You can't compare her to Ronstadt, whose voice might be the most powerful in pop history, and the most beautiful. She had the same smoothness as Carpenter but combined with massive easy power (listen to Carrie Underwood sing "Different Drum" and then listen to LR, Underwood is working so hard and Ronstadt sounds like she is lying on a hammock while generating about ten times more sound). There is just nobody who knows anything about singing would put Linda Ronstadt and Karen Carpenter in the same sentence.

I love watching Linda sing live. This performance, which I think was for a TV show is abbreviated, however. It leaves out a beautiful third verse, with one of the most powerful lines in the song. It goes, Wait for the day You'll go away Knowing that you warned me Of the price I'd have to pay And life's full of flaws Who knows the cause? Living in the memory Of a love that never was.

You're right Harri, a lot of Linda's early material had more of a country lean in many cases. In fact J.D. Souther who wrote or co-wrote a lot of songs for Linda and the Eagles has said in interviews that Linda Ronstadt gave him an appreciation for country music that he previously didn't have. Also, Linda did many songs with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris as 'The Trio". The three of them had a big hit in 1987 with the song, "Those Memories". Also, one of my favorite songs on Linda's 1977 "Simple Dreams" album is one she sang with Dolly Parton of an old song called, "I Never Will Marry" (Written by A P Carter of the Carter Family). It's a soft, dreamy ballad that they harmonize with each other beautifully on.

Yes, Linda did sing everything! Wonderful range. Long, Long Time is or can be "sad" song. However, for my Linda Ronstadt tearjerker has to be a tie. "Prisoner In Disguise" on Prisoner In Disguise album & "Lo Siento MI Vida" on her Hasten Down the Wind album. That song was written & co-written by Linda, her father Gilbert Ronstadt & Linda's old Stone Poneys buddy Kenny Edward's. I don't speak Spanish but I can feel it, right thru me! She's been my fav since 1970 when I saw her @ Greek Theater in Hollywood. ✌️ ☮️
