When I first set out to tell the story of ranching in the Hawaiian islands, it was with the intent of portraying Parker Ranch - 130,000 sprawling acres on the Big Island of Hawaii.
But after encountering roadblocks, the focus shifted to a subject who I read about in the airline magazine on my flight out. I reached out to Barbara Nobriga, an 84 year old hall of fame rancher, to find out more about her life.
The one thing that stood out to me from the beginning is her dedication to preservation of Hawaiian culture. In a time where kids are usually glued to their devices, Barbara strives to teach children useful skills at her ranch.
Barbara is truly an inspiration to her community and family. Her legend will continue as it is passed onto future generations.
