The Parable of the Unjust Steward is one of the-if not *the*-most difficult parable to interpret. Why would the master commend or praise the steward who lowered the amounts owed by the tenants? What was the steward banking on? What are the connections between the Parable of the Prodigal Son and this parable? How do the various instructions about discipleship and possessions intersect with the parable? In this week’s Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes, Chad Bird explores Luke 16:1-15.

Interesting exposition on a most difficult text. Enlightening interpretation that doesn’t purport to be the final solution. Thank you and prayers for us and our families in our mourning and faith in the promise of the Gospel. Sam

I pray that our Lord has comforted you and your family during this very difficult period and continues to bless you with the strength to continue these teachings which are so enlightening to us all. The time and effort you spend making these videos has certainly blessed all of us.

May we never stop "banking" on the Father's mercy made manifest in Jesus Christ! I think you hit the nail on the head here. Love it!

You have done a good job laying out your explanation to this Parable. Unfortunately, this parable has been misinterpreted by so many Scholars and their teachings have just perpetuated the false understanding. The Master fired his manager and stripped him of all his duties. There is no way he would be happy with him (unlawfully) forgiving the debt owed to him. The Manager did what Jesus said for us to do. Use unjust wealth to buy favor. “And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬ The manager used HIS OWN money that he gained by his unrighteousness acts and Paid down the debt of the debtors. That is how he gained favor and that is why the Master was not anger but commended him on his Shrewdness. We are to act the same.

I consider you a gift from the Father to the Body in general and a wink from Him to me. You are not heard nearly enough, but I am blessed beyond belief to have the honor of learning from you.

So be a shrewd and faithful in the things of God, but also in leaning on the Masters mercy, while being merciful to others in return 🤔🎯

So happy you have a video on this one. And so encouraged it's considered difficult because it has stumped me for years. Your channel has been one of my go-to tools for studying the Bible! Thank you!

I continue to be pleasantly amazed at your insights into God's Word. In this particular case, however, I believe you may have added too much to the Gospel in your explanation. There is, in this reading, no mention of jail, no mention about the reputation of the master, and no mention of the mercifulness of the master. And there is no reason to believe that the "wise sayings" at the end of the parable are simply additional quotations rather than a summation of the parable. It appears to me there are two errors that Jesus is addressing: the error of worshiping wealth (the Pharisees who were lovers of money) and the error of wasting wealth (if you have not been faithful in unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches). These days (this generation) when you read the news about the clever hacking of a bank, or the ransom of a corporate account, or the stories about Robin Hood, there is invariably an admiration for the cunning and shrewdness of the perpetrator. In this case we have a not-so-bright master who, on the basis of gossip "what is this I HEAR", decides to fire the steward. The master presents no proof and it's evident the steward could not have done too bad a job if the master could loan out 100 units of oil and 100 units of wheat. The management of lending, after all, is one of the jobs of this steward. How did the admiring master "of the sons of the world" get so wealthy if not for the shrewdness of his steward?

I think you said you would go with "angels" as "they." I got thinking that it would be another connection to chapter 15 where "there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Do you have a teaching on what was really going on when Jesus told Nathanael that He saw him under the fig tree and that in him was no guile??? I have typed the search for it on your channel but I don’t see anything.

Chad makes good videos but Chad does read into the punch line. There is no point about making the master look good.
