Ahhh this is so relatable! I realized I was trying to achieve an aesthetic rather than actually figuring out what I like and my true style/interests. Now I’m trying to journal to help figure out what I actually enjoy and care about. One thing that helped was figuring out my values in terms of spending and just life in general.

Buying less and other ways of setting boundaries (minimalism!) definitely helps. If you have less it makes you enjoy the things you have more. Maybe you could add to the quotes: Anxiety loves plans, depression loves action, gratitude (or contentment) loves restriction.

The only thing that worked for me was tuning into who I really am and what I really care about. I thought about this when you did your wardrobe video. I figured out what brings me real, tangible joy and then I stopped buying into things I know wouldn't make me happy based on my core self. I like to try new things, like sports and stuff, but if I don't like it I don't feel guilty because I know it doesn't align with the core me and that's okay.

I am almost done reading Dopamine Nation and I feel everyone can benefit from a “Dopamine Fast”. Highly recommend reading the book if you haven’t yet.

One thing that has helped me stick to my hobbies (learning a language, going to the gym), but also do stuff like chores, is just accepting that I'm not going to enjoy it all of the time, or even MOST of the time. Running is hard, learning a language is hard and frustrating. But breaking through into a pleasant jog in the morning light is beautiful. Learning a cool new word, or understanding the lyrics in a song for the first time, is amazing! I think social media has trained us to believe that we have to be enjoying ourselves at all times, but actually sticking to something because of a broader 'reason why', means that we probably won't be. Learning to be bored and uncomfortable are such skills, but I think I am getting there!

Absolutely! Being bored is still a skill I'm learning 😉
