Islamic extremism or at the very least, justifying Islamic extremism is a popular viewpoint in the west at this point. So yeah there is a heightened threat everywhere
There's bed bugs here in the states now. U can be clean as hell. They don't discriminate lol. I moved into a nice place that ended up having them. I had to throw away everything my family owned n start over. Our immigration policies brought them back to the states.
We have them here in the states. I moved into a place n had to leave n leave everything my family owned behind n start over. We had them eradicated. But immigration policies brought them back. Almost every country deals with it in certain locations. Especially hotels. Always check.
Its not Paris specifically, just people dont really care about the Olympics anymore. Every 4 years host countries lose money. Also, there is currently a land war in Europe mixed with tons of political upheaval. Are people choosing to be tourists in America right now? No, because we are a bunch of messy Bessies at this moment and all the major cities are prone to drugs, vagrants and violent crime. In France they have poop dumping protests, heavily controversial elections and its become notoriously filthy in recent years. Lets not act too baffled by this. If your own citizens are unhappy dont expect tourism.
Phill on the money as always. There are quite a few miserable Parisiennes that just scoff and insult your attempts. Met a bunch of very pleasant folks as well but even they say there are so many angry Parisiennes. Still a beautiful city steeped in history!
It’s odd that every host city falls in the same trap that is going to be some miracle for their economy. Kind of similar to NFL stadiums that get financed by the taxpayers because it’ll bring business… then the team just up and leaves (like the rams in st.Louis)
Or on a different note, the City of Los Angeles (and other local cities) wouldn't publicly fund a new stadium for all the years it didn't have an NFL team. The Rams ended up returning and built their own stadium, along with the Chargers moving here and leasing the Rams' stadium for their home games.
I live in the Los Angeles area. Back in 1984 there were these exact same situations and complaints. When a lot of hotel, restaurant, and tourist-related businesses complained about low bookings at a press conference with the organizers, they simply said "we don't have control over your businesses. Lower your prices if you want to attract more customers" It's basic and simple economics, supply and demand. Is French economics any different?
@a_normal_earthbeing1180 awesome. Smells like piss, city has the same mentality as NYC and if yoj don't speak perfect French, you are treated like a dog.
Genuinely don't get why people hate paris? I get it's not perfect, but as someone who's lived here their whole life, the city is truly beautiful and fun, I love sports and can't wait for the games tbh.
Paris is OK for a few weeks of visiting, but I'd rather go to London, Berlin, or Spain (Madrid/Barcelona) myself. I speak Spanish and Germans are pretty polite with English speaking tourists.
Paris is already a fairly expansive city and attractions are already crowded. unless you are going especially for the Olympics experience i would wait for it to be over
People listing the reasons in the comments without saying the actual reason why they aren't going. They are boycotting it just like they did Eurovision in Sweden. It was the most hostile, not fun eurovision EVER due to the crowd and some artists
@@ThoughtfulDuck-r8h i just mean that cities in the US are more built with traffic in mind, compared to cities in europe which are thousands of years old Not that the traffic in the US doesn’t have problems
Between elections, geopolitical climate, cost of living, and then all of Paris' own issues I'm not surprised in the slightest. Being an LA resident, really hope our Olympics in 2028 turn out good. Looking forward to it mostly though it'll certainly be something having several million extra people from every corner of the globe here for a few months.
They used to be a bigger deal in the pop culture social ethos. The last 10 years or so it hasn't really been as hyped or anticipated because so many other more pressing things are happening. That and I personally think the fact that we are SO connected as a planet via the internet people are less intrigued by the idea of this big planetary get together because we basically all live in one house and see each other all the time now. It could also be almost no one watches network tv anymore so you aren't just turning on the TV and the Olympics are all that's on NBC every day and night for 2 weeks. People have to actively go seek it out to stream it.
