I remember hearing this as a 5 year old kicking a ball around the backyard as my parents were lounging in the sun. Every time it comes on it absolutely smashes me right in the feels. Brings me right back to that simple time.
Damn, you're the same age as me. I discovered The Partland Bros. when I was 12 and they were the first CD I ever bought, yet I have only just discovered this amazing song now.
First time I heard this song was Chris Partland singing it in a friend's backyard for a pig roast party. We partied with him several times after that in northern Ontario. The guy is a gem and a legend. Had some amazing Rock n roll party stories I'll never forget
I haven't heard this since late 1986 when I was nineteen years old driving in my 73 Chevy Nova in the Pacific Northwest. This song was pure as the dudes who sang this. Clear message as they were looking for clean fun in Soul city.
THIS BAND is from Central Ontario, North of Toronto, and the PARTLAND BROTHERS played This Tune Live on Late Night With David Letterman in the Late 1980's. Wonderful Talented Artist that surely Deserved GREATER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. Thank You for Sharing this INSPIRING Artist.
I heard this in Prom Night II: Hello Mary Lou and had to pause the movie and come find this song. I was born 1981 and never heard of these guys until today. Wow, they are so good! Kind of remind me of The Fixx.
The INFLUENCE of Great Songs NEVER Die, and Talented Artists and Songwriters like The Partland Brothers will Still Encourage our Younger Artists... YES... They ARE TRULY SPECIAL... ABSOLUTELY ❤ 😂
Another Canadian classic. The car they're driving so reminds me of my '64 Pontiac Parisienne ragtop and all the cruising I did in it while listening to the great sounds of the 60s-80s. "And we won't be back til the money's all gone!" Sounds like a lot of the roadtrips my buds and I took before this song even hit the airwaves. Songs of the 60s thru the 80s are what's keeping me young.
I just heard this on the radio here in Halifax on 89.9. I was so excited because i haven't heard in forever. It's now in my 80s playlist, never to be forgotten again. :) Thank you radio for still playing it. :)
Gorgeous, talented men! Nobody comes close to this today. And Canadian eh? Beautiful! Takes me right back to those wonderful days when I was younger. So grateful we have access to music like this still!
My name Is Jamie, I would love to go back two the 80s all over again back two when this song was own the radio played every day. I really miss the 80s when I was growing up in my childhood years.
Had this on 45 at the time. Wore out 3 copies of it. NEVER will there be songs like this anymore. Today's music is crap. I ALWAYS liked the lost songs or the ones that weren't big hits. And boy there sure were a lot of em.
I know this song came out in 1986; but I never heard it until sometime six or seven years ago; while I was shopping at a Home Hardware store in my home area; and heard this song over the loudspeakers. It didn't take especially long for me to find out more about this song. It rocks in my book!
Such an awesome tune. Listening to it is like a time machine, puts me right back to my 20's, out with my buddies. You guys were awesome. Well, you're probably still awesome, lol.
I was 16 in 1986. I remember this song had a couple of months run on Friday Night Videos. At least that's where I THINK I saw this video - it has been 37 years! This song reminds me of a high school crush. Great song!!!
This song ....and this band....is nothing short of magnificent. The track was played as a one off on the American chart show on BBC Radio here in the UK and it blew my mind. Later that year I went on holiday to the US for the first time and on my second day I went to a record store and bought the Electric Honey album on cassette. Soul City sounds as fresh today as it did in 1987 and it still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. An all time classic from a fabulous band. Great video too!
Blame it on the programming directors obsessed with Madonna and The Bangles and the Blow Monkeys and Flesh For Lulu...they buried this track instead of playing it regularly...
You can still hear this song on great classic hits radio stations such as 89.9 The Wave in Halifax, Coast 101.1 in St. John's, 103.9 Max FM in Moncton and Kool 98 in Saint John, New Brunswick. The Partland Brothers were one of Canada's finest sibling duos, eh!
What the what I never knew where these guys were from - I grew up in Tottenham Ontario - a good trek of 5-7 mins away from colgan - pure insanity for me 🤯🤯🤯
Went to high school with these lads. They were immensely popular in Alliston area. We loved them. So sorry to just learn about Chris' diagnosis of Parkinsons.
The hair was as big as the music in the '80s. Finally, today the hair is coming back. I'm rocking the mullet and I see so many other guys rocking it now, too.
So love this song when it comes on the radio.... as clear and awesome vibes even to this day!! They just don't make songs like this these days... thank you Partland brothers -- the energy you imbued and shared with others has helped shape many of us == much love to you both!!💙💛
For some reason, I had forgotten about this song for at least three decades. Living overseas hasn’t helped in that regard. This clip typifies life in Canada during the 80's. A magical time when brilliant tunes such as this one dominated Canadian radio.
This song is part of a VERY Happy Coincidence: In 1986, I started a new job that required a lot of travel, though pretty much all within the State of Indiana. One of the first assignments I received was in Tell City, ~halfway between Louisville, Kentucky and Evansville, Indiana. This song was on the radio a lot at the time. From the first time I heard it, I LOVED this song. Thus, while driving, I sang it along, many times. Thankfully, no one was ever in the car with me. LOL I had been long-term unemployed and was just SO Happy to be working again. This was my fourth job, but it was the first that I thought I could make a Career out of. Unfortunately, certain "things" happened and I wound up leaving (voluntarily). I had a Good Run, ~six years, second longest time I stayed anywhere. And this song reminds me of one of the best assignments during one of my favorite jobs in my ten-job career. Thank you for a GREAT Song, Gentlemen!
This song still gets a rotation on my iPod. My sister and I would argue over who was the better looking brother. I wonder if they still have those mullets...They could pull it off!
Great song , I bought the 45 single during the summer of 1986 after highschool graduation. Wow, the world Was so small back then with so much to learn and explore!
Man I remember when these guys were Oliver Heaviside band ( Q 107 ) home grown winners....this is a great song....you tube them ,,song was " level crossing "...
+Narjit Chadha I just saw a friend lasst night I hadn't seen in 18 years. One of the best guys around. I had to hear this song...it reminds me of when we were y oung and this had come out. I believe we would have been in grade 6 or so. Bringing back the memories t his morning...suddenly, my eyes aren't so clear.
Saw Chris Partland perform "Soul City" at Ronnie Hawkins farm with Robin Hawkins, Ronnie's son. What a great time!!! It was Robin's C.D. release party. (2013) Stoney Lake
You fellows were impressive! This song should have been a Number One hit on the American charts. So underrated...and so wonderful. Electric honey CD has been in rotation in my Caddy lately...
termitesc, I've got another very good Canadian band for you who are unknown but have two great songs. The band is Wrabit. Their songs to look for are: 1) Say Lady Say - (Great ballad with an awesome guitar solo in the middle!) 2) Anyway Anytime - (Wicked rocker!) Enjoy!
@@indianathiessen I listen to a lot of AOR in general so I'm familiar with them. I went through a period in my life a few years back where I'd listen to Canadian classic hits stations online to see what I was missing out on as an American. Really introduced me to some underrated artists like Platinum Blonde, Tragically Hip and Sass Jordan.
@@termitesc.aardwolf3644 Cool. The Hip have always been huge in Canada. Streetheart was a great rock band that Americans missed out on unfortunately. Platinum Blonde is always on radio up here
THATS A GREAT SONG! FIRST TIME I EVER HEARD THIS AN I COLLECTED.MUSIC SINCE I WAS 8YRS OLD TILL 90S SAD DJ MUST NOT PLAYED VERY MUCH CAUSE THIS IS FIRST FOR ME 9-9-2022☹🥰
I absolutely love this song, both G.P. and Chris Partland. It is very unfortunate that they are both going through some hard life times right now and I certainly wish them both the best! Hang tight boys, we're all rooting for ya!
