You know I'm going to take a random guess about this 3:30 i have no idea if this is actually the character but whatever it just a theory or guess krang one i have no idea but people normally think it is so I'm guessing as well that just said i don't really care about anything else
casey’s character is so intriguing to me; he’s literally been plucked out of a time that nobody will ever understand but him. he succeeded for the better of the universe, but everything he knows is gone forever. awesome video, it’s cool to see someone talk about him :)
Pretty great analysis of Casey! I still wish Cassandra was in this movie. Honestly, i fail to see what would be so drastically different if she was. She could have been with April and Splinter. It still feels like a missed opportunity to not have Casey and Cassandra interact in anyway, and just left it to a literal final scene reveal for a "shock" or "gag". Maybe they couldn't get Zelda Williams or something, or was a deliberate decision to omit Cassandra, I dunno...
From what I heard, the creators of the movie were basically told they couldn't include characters like Draxum or Cassandra because they were told to make the movie as digestible as possible for non-rise tmnt fans. They had to fight to even get the hipno and Warren cameos. So while I do agree, I don't wanna blame the writers for this one
@@forestcrow5491That would certainly explain why we suddenly got two Casey's when Cassandra had kind of been the stand-in Casey Jones in the series. They were trying to make it palatable for fans who were used to the original Casey Jones concept.
I REALLY CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I ADORE ROTTMNT CASEY, AS A DIEHARD FAN OF TMNT, CASEY JONES HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY FAV CHARACTER BESIDES LEO, BUT ROTTMNT IMPROVE THE UNBEATABLE PD. Fun fact, Cassandra Jones was later added to IDW comics in the Last Ronin Comics, & she's just as Hyperactive & lconic as she is in ROTTMNT
And in the newer TLR comic series you can see in one of the pages a woman that looks like and older version of ROTTMNT April with her jacket logo as the graffiti on the wall behind her
Of the two endings for Casey (the canon one where he seems to stay in the modern timeline and the scrapped one when he goes back to his own time) I think the canon one is what Master Leonardo would have wanted for Casey. A chance for him to live a safe(r), normal(er) life. That being said, OH BOY, that kid is going to need ALLLLLLLLL THE THERAPY! Like, Casey Jr here has an entire lifetime of trauma he probably isn't even aware IS trauma to unpack.
@@ArcTrooperRod-269 ah, that does make more sense I suppose. Still, I prefer him staying in NYC with the family. I don't think a highly traumatized 16 wander the country alone is a good idea.
@@caitlinbrewer4843 Master Leonardo was his dad no one can pry that from my hands Can you imagine being around your parental figure when they were a teen and know it's them but not them at the same time And hey everyone died in battle except Master Michaelangelo he's the only one who killed himself
Good gosh Casey’s story is so much sadder than I realized When you said he has to change their fates and shows the photo of the fam was such a gut punch holy cow he really lost his whole family and has to stop that from happening again
thats the thing. imagine being told that you have to save your family by going back in time, you do, you see them, *this* is your family..but, they don't seem like it. there's some things you recognize, but they aren't the same..how many years ago was this, you wonder? you realize..your not saving your family. they aren't the same people you know. really, casey had to go back in time to save someone he didn't even know. someone who *looks* the same, but otherwise isn't who he knows. that would be such a good concept for a horror movie ngl
Tmnt plays around with the 'apocalypse/bad future' thing a lot. But somehow Rise, with only like 3-4 minutes no less, managed to make it just as sad and hopeless as older versions of it. And adding Casey into the mix was brilliant
THIS DEFINITELY DIDN'T DISSAPOINT BTW when you pointed out the fact that leo through him through the portal at first, not giving him the choice, but then he had to make the choice HIMSELF while taking the key i am going so crazy over that it's such a small detail but it's so important omg this was so good and articulate though, i really really liked how you put it all together you did such a good job :D i don't have more words my brain is just a mantra of casey jr rn i hope you can understand KHSFKJAHKDFSJ
Gosh darnit, why does everyone of these videos have to be so heartwrenchingly good!? Gimme a break already, stop making me feel things!!! Also, I love Casey, I love this video, and I can't wait for more!
This is exactly why we got to work as hard as THEY do to SAVE RISE. I don’t care how long it takes, or what it’s going to take (legally). I was never exactly a TMNT fan until Rise happened. I used to think the previous Aprils and Caseys were just “canon fodder” (2012 reference). And I HATED Raph. Then Rise came and gave me what I needed. An April and Casey x2 who were reliable, strong, and NOT trying to force their way into the spotlight. And the BEST RAPH I could ever ask for. Mikey, Donnie, Leo, and Splinter were especially added bonuses I didn’t know I needed until now. As someone who UNFORTUNATELY had a childhood on 2003 TMNT (it was always on TV but I hardly watched it, except for Fast Forward), I’m experiencing a WHOLE NEW CHILDHOOD with Rise. Have hope. That’s a ninja’s greatest weapon.
This is a really good analysis on Casey Jr. I’m glad someone finally made an analysis video about him because I found him very interesting. I like that whole idea Rise had of passing the torch of the Hamato family onto him. I didn’t watch a lot of TMNT when I was younger so I didn’t like Casey all that much. I was just like “Ahh yes, the guy with the hockey mask that thinks he’s cool.” Also, I noticed that you just focused on the Casey from the movie instead of looking back on the past Casey’s of TMNT.
Also, I agree with you that even though Leo needed to change his cocky ways Casey shouldn’t have expected him to be some ideal hero he hasn’t become yet. The end of the video hit hard in a good way.
Casey couldn’t let go, the scene where he’s about to close the portal. He had a choice, he could either choose to save teenage Leo and fail the mission he was given or he could choose too follow master Leonardos last mission he gave to Casey. This movie is so beautiful it makes me cry every time .
Honestly, if rise made a season 3 I would want Casey and Cassandra to meet. Like, that would be so awesome! Also your videos hit so deep and it opens a new world to the characters. Keep up the good work
Casey Jr is the first and only time I've seen a son take on the name Junior from their mother and not their father. I think it's cool it leaves the door open for April to be Casey jr Mom along side Cassandra.
This was so beautifully put and on one of my favorite characters in all of TMNT❤️ I desperately wish we get a s3 so we can see more of him (and Cassandra)
I also want to comment on how Donnie, while being the least focused on in the movie, still fits this. Technically, Donnie sacrifices himself four times. Quietly, without complaint or recognition.
Yeah, his whole plot is basically defending Mikey. Defending hope. He sacrifices a lot in this movie. And I also noticed he basically took Raphs role as soon as he was gone and Leo was partially unavailable.
@@Kuare22 oh absolutely! I don't think I consciously realized that, but now that you mention it, it has sprung from my subconscious. He became the voice of reason and the protector as soon as the role needed to be filled.
Another great video 🔥 And speaking of Casey's armor, my personal theory is the red accent with dots on his chest represents Raph. But in future-world, Raph sacrificed himself (like how he did to save Leo) before Casey ever met him. I'd like to think Casey would hear the other brothers reminisce about Raph and he understood that he was the thread connecting the family ♥️
I wish that fans recognized Casey Jr's trauma more. In fanwork (art, fics, etc) people usually focus on the brothers. Obviously they have their trauma, but no-one talks about Casey. He got thrown back in time, watched his family die, was tasked with saving the world before the beginning of the end, sees his dead - but - not - dead - because - it's - the - past family, has to let Leo sacrifice himself again, and a lot more. I think people need to recognize that and it kinda upsets me that they don't. Hopefully if Rise gets a season 3 that can be explored. #saverottmnt
your analyses never ever fail to miss!!! i find myself rewatching your videos because i adore the way you explain things and promptly add this to my mental catalogue of great character analyses. very fond of your work
I also think during the Scene when Casey is Yelling at current Leo for his impulsive actions, but also He was also Yelling at Future Leo, How he Didn’t give him the details, Threw him through a portal and just assumed it’d work out. How Future Leo’s Impulsive actions not only Put his family and the world at risk but just How he then just threw it off to Casey to do. This a rant On Future Leo honestly It allows Casey to Actually say the how he feels in the situation that His Master tasked him to do. I actually Respect That if that is what that scene was meant to represent that even in the short we spent with The future Turtles, They still wrote Them so well. I want Rise back THAT SHOW DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE!!
I liked the scene where casey is berating leo for his actions. Its a moment where they *both* learn something very important that ultimately helps them in battling the Kraang.
During the scene where Casey was yelling at Leo, I'd always imagine that it was his older self yelling at his younger self. Since Casey was under the guidance of his sensei, he sorta embodies what future Leo would have said to the Leo we knew. Scolding him that it wasn't always about him, correcting his selfishness and to stop thinking he was in the right. I'd really wished to see that conversation, but only in ao3 i guess.
I found this channel a few days ago and only now I fully understand all the thoughts and ideas that the authors put into Rise. Thank you for this🙏 Also, I like to think that only Casey can take the key in the finale. And not just to finish his arc, but because everyone else wouldn't have done it OR would have done it too late. Leo's brothers, April and Splinter, will protest against his idea and insist on finding another way. And only Casey, who had already seen the horror of the end of the world, could make this decision But it is only my thoughts ^^
11:58 - 12:22 it’s so interesting seeing how the different generations handle that singular belief. Also love your video analysis they’re so interesting and allow characters to truly shine through understanding. ❤
I was going to wait until seeing the movie with my friend to watch this video but my self control has gone out the window, I couldn’t NOT watch a new heybuwan video immediately
The thing that gets me the most is the same as it was in TMNT 2012, particularly in space travel arc, with time travel, that even though Casey was able to prevent krangs from destroying the world, his version of the universe is gone or still in the hands of krangs. His master Leonardo is gone, and will never see what his student have accomplished, and that's actually a pretty hard to accept as you know that you saved the world, but it's not your world, it's just a different timeline. I wish we could actually see an episode dedicated to this idea, as I was pretty dissapointed that in TMNT 2012 they've just let go go this fact and decided to go with that our turtles replaced other versions of themselves and this was played as a joke...
Casey's conflict in this movie always interested me. That final scene where it was up to him to either fulfill his Sensei's dying wish but lose this timeline's Leo, the only part of Master Leonardo Casey had left, or let his former mentor down by refusing to rip out the key. That scene *hurts*! Loved the points you made in this vid, thank you for your contribution to my everlasting descent into fandom madness!
I love your videos so much. The way you explain things so clearly, and go over even the smallest details. Casey Jr is my absolute favorite, so watching this is just amazing. I can’t even explain how much I love this 😭!! Since you covered Casey Jr do you ever plan on analyzing Cassandra as well?
Not sure since she doesn't get that much focus or development (due to the cut and all) but she may appear from time to time in other analysis videos as a bouncing point!
you this casey is a lot like the casey from the comics who lost everything and tries to be like the people he aspires to and following the hamato's without question but ultimatly learning that it's not about him or the people he aspires to it's about everyone else
Casey was so awesome for this hour and a half. I just watch this movie over and over. When Leo loses contact with Donnie and Mikey in the subway, and he's all "What did I do wrong?" I just feel like, Casey gives him that warning about how it's EVERYBODY on the line, and Leo, who's been dodging responsibility this whole time - even the concept of rescuing Raph is him dodging. Rescue Raph, and then Raph can fix everything. He looks up and realises, THAT'S responsibility. Sure, Leo needs to take responsibility for his team, but at least he's got those responsibilities to keep him company. Casey's not just got a family, or the world, but the entire FUTURE on his shoulders, and he's got nobody to share it with. And even though Leo is being such a fail, Casey's still going. Leo's future is ready to go, whether he's ready or not. Cuz when there's a load, that's what a hero does. They're the first to pick it up, and the last to lay it down.
i love that the implication is that our casey named her son after herself. son you were named after the bravest warrior i ever knew. it’s me.i’m the best.
This is the best animated version of the character I have ever seen! In all honesty, I've never been a fan of the original character; he was like the fifth wheel on a four-wheel vehicle, he seemed to exist just so April could have a (will-they-or-won't-they) boyfriend, and the creators are often inconsistent in determining whether he should be a serious character or a comedic one. So changing up the character for this movie was absolutely necessary, and it worked splendidly!
Gosh I really loved Casey in the movie, he's quite literally stripped away from the ones he cares for literally watching future Leo die before being sent back to the past. By the time we get to the final act when Leo decides to sacrifice himself I nearly cried when Leo said "Casey future me would have been proud of you" he quiet literally accepts that he'll never know Leo like he did from in the apocalypse timeline so he knows the right thing to do is close the portal
I don't know how to explain this, but i think this is my favorite movie so far. I never experienced something like this before. I never cried so much in a single movie or never cried so much because something was over. Im feeling happy but sad at the same time. I feel like i want to cry even thought the end of the movie is a good ending. Idk maybe its because im really really sad that its over and its my comfort series or maybe its just because im feeling jelly cause i never had friends like them (i wish i had.) I still want to cry when i think about it, i really hate this feeling and im scared that I'll forget rottmnt one day, but im sure it will always be in my heart. (Im crying again, i hate this feeling so much. I dont really know how to explain this, haha... *I just wish it never ended, but it did. Just like everything else.* )
Well this made me cry, not bc it was necessarly sad but bc it empacks so many emotions and the history of love in this seriies. Which was never better explained. I really appreciate Buwan for making an in debt analyss videos like this. They're real joy to watch
Once again an amazing video! I love the way you put into perspective that he seriously did lose his entire family and everything he knew, like, they saved the world and everyone from *this* timeline is safe now, so you think oh everything got "fixed" and everything's fine, right?... but no, he really does not and will not ever have his father or the rest of his family back. He's so extremely brave and I hope people know and appreciate that about him 😭
Really loved this character analysis! Casey definitely became one of my favorite Rise characters after the movie and i hope we can see more of him in the future.
I AM going to cry. And this is a threat. But seriously, AMAZING VIDEO AND ANALYSIS!!!! You literally worded what I have been thinking about casey and leo and the importance of their characters! Leo and casey in general are such deeply relatable characters to me, (other than, y'know, the whole get sent back in time or have to go through the destruction of the world thing) lmao. CANT WAIT FOR MORE!! #SaveRiseoftheTMNT
The weight of loss is not often looked at, for obvious reasons loss is the one thing we have to be tricked in order to look at. I remember an old dog of mine, he disappeared one day. Nothing prompted it, just gone and it was hard because I knew nothing of their fate. Not knowing the fate of loss is quite honestly one of the worst feelings imaginable, loss is the one thing nobody likes but also can't accept as shown with Casey. Loss is the fact we can't accept it being loss and with time we have to accept it and... soon enough things will get better because of it.
*standing ovation* Saving this video for reference because I agree with all these points and am so glad someone finally put it into words. I especially loved your walkthrough of the moment Casey has to remove the key. Definitely the most powerful moment for mer personally. Wonderful job.
At first I wasn't into Casey's character But than, one day, I started to analyze this boy and Damn He is my favourite boy now😭😭😭 And now this video you made?? This is so good thank you so much Casey deserves everything good😭💖
That's incredibly well summarised video. I am grateful for all the constructions and new words I've been able to find out about. Aside from the fact that whole video felt like a movie itself . The music, the climax, the main point , I feel like that was an astonishing journey. I felt the grief, I understood the emotions of every characted you'd talked about, and, the most immerable thing- I felt the same feelings as when I've watched the ending of season 2. Just the immense amount of gratification and gratitude. As well as some points and lessons I've been able to harness through that video. I'll think about them later, anyway, before all feelings fade away, thank you for video one more time 💓
YAY A NEW VIDEO! And that’s another beautiful analysis of rise of TMNT characters! There’s so very few Casey analysis! This one is so special and memorable! Thank you once again! ❤
How do you keep putting out amazing content?? I literally love just listening to these over analysis’s they bring me so much happiness ❤ keep up the good work 😊😊
I really love your analyses! They make me love this show/movie even more! Like, my ROTTMNT hype and love rises up every time 😭💖 #saverottmnt #savetheriseoftmnt
5:55 the first thing he says to Leo here his exact words are "what the heck was that?" this is an anomaly for him he's only ever seen Leo being a skilled leader so it's downright shocking, borderline confusing when he's literally being the opposite.
This is so true nickelodeon has to do a lot and then it would get like a bunch of watchers that are probably not the true gap of the age i don't know the age of the show supposed to be
