The patella. That's it. The bone. Well, and the muscle that attaches to it. And the bones that it associates with. And the ligaments and/or tendons. But otherwise, just the patella. Of the knee joint.

25 Likes - 1 dislike? Whats wrong with that person! .... didn't they even appreciate the "I had one kicking around the office" punchline? oh I despair I really do, some people just have no sense of British wit" Hancock, Corbett, Milligan, Mayall... oh yes they'd all be grasping for that one. :) I found this episode interesting as I had the ol' keyhole knee surgery (3 times - which is like a good tally for the one knee - right!) and I was always wanting to see for myself what was going on in there. Your clarity in communicating the intricacies of the human body is exceptional and makes for genuinely engaging episodes.

It's impossible to please everyone. I'm mostly just trying to entertain myself at this point. Did you see the knee bones and ligaments video a couple of weeks ago?

Thanks, Sam, for this great explanation! One question: in what way are the tendons connected to the patella? Are they connecting to it at different points, so that there’s no tendon material *on* the patella (so: attached only on top and bottom, and the patella bearing the full pulling load)? Or do all tendons join into one massive tendon that transitions into the patellar tendon, so that the patella is embedded into it but doesn’t bear the load? Thank you! Had a road cycling accident and broke it (vertically). Got screwed back together, today had my first bike ride again. Yay. Appreciated your cycling excursion at the end!

hi ..last yr i went for cycling for 40 kms and the seat height of my bicycle was very less ,so after coming home i started feeling pain around my knee cap.. and i started feeling knee grinding and popping ..i did MRI and in mri it came up as grade1 chondromalacia.. its been a yr i am hearing the grinding noise in my knee.. i feel like the space between my knee cap and bone has reduced.. and when i extend my knee few time it pops and get into the place then there will be no clicking for some time but after doing some moments the grinding starts again.. what should i do

6:27 Could someone please explain the concept of the patella being a pulley for mechanical advantage? I am confused

Bike toe clips were contingent on foot natural tracking. So if you had a non straight foot track abnormal weight stress transfer up tibia to knee. Problem. If foot track was true you generally did well unless pulled too much on up stroke causing anterior tibias pull on tibial tuberosity. 20-30 % up power only

i'm trying to stretch my quads, after 5 years of my patella dislocation i feel some pain and uncomfortable, i noticed that my good patella when it's 20 degree the knee on bed and the half of the leg in the air, would vibrate if i touched it slightly with my finger, the bad one is not. i will tell my result if i remembered maybe it helps someone.

See a doctor. Dr. Webster is an anatomy professor, not an M.D. In his About section-and often in other video notes and even verbally in some-he says, "Do not use these videos for medical advice. I'm talking about human anatomy, but you should meet with a healthcare professional...for proper medical advice." I'm not trying to offend, but I feel bad for him because he does these amazing videos that medical students, physical therapists, massage therapists, yoga instructors, just people interested in anatomy literally all over the world praise for being so helpful, and invariably someone comes along seeking medical advice when he has made plain that isn't what he does.
