I just wonder why it took them so insanely long to implement when it was unanimously decided amongst the devs themselves trading was the most glaring problem. I mean don't get me wrong; I'm glad it was addressed and better late than never. But they could've made such a massive improvement years ago and garnered an immense amount of good faith. Not to mention many, many new players in that time from this change alone.

Compared to totems banners are: longer lasting, larger AOE, Instant cast, saved for bosses, and invulnerable to all damage. They are more similiar to buff skills like sigil of power, focus or blessings.
yeah, ive seen this opinion brought up a few times, but idk it just feels wrong to me. the melee totems were needed to bring melee dps somewhat up to par with spells/bows. were clunky cuz you had to use both in a 3 link setup, and they would die pretty easily. so they were removed and skills massively compensated to adjust for that. so now the baseline is in a more appropriate spot. the new banner skills kinda suck, besides war banner, which is simply a dps cooldown for one skill gem. not out of place at all for the game and by no means mandatory
Yeah, I initially shuttered at the idea. But then I realized it really didn't matter. It's definitely not the same as totems. I never used totems, I preferred having less power to that nonsense. Banners, on the other hand, I will find myself using during boss fights, hard essences, etc. More like using Berserk than trying to set down your extremely unpleasant totems.
Yeah the new banners also don't buff you nearly as much as Totems did. They aren't a "must take" Also being instant and immortal is HUGE when compared to totems. Totems were annoying because deploying them got in the way of your DPS uptime or they could die to a random gust of wind. Throw in the fact that you won't be able to deploy the banners as much, they become a button you press once per map. Unlike Totems. It's really not that big of a deal. If you don't like them, don't use them. Unlike with totems, I can absolutely say this because they don't double your DPS.

Prepare to feel overwhelmed as hell. PoE is no joke and the amount of content this game throws at the player is a LOT to process, especially if you come from D4. I advise you find a noob friendly build guide that will help you learn how gems and passive skill interact as you progress through the campaign. Also don't try to understand and master everything all at once, it's simply not possible. Go at your own pace, allow yourself feeling frustrated or discouraged a few times (we've all been there) and try at least completing the campaign before deciding if you want to persevere further. The campaign is basically a ten acts tutorial leading you to where PoE's core lies : its super massive endgame and the countless customable playing possibilities it offers. Good luck and stay sane exile !
@@deceiver444 thanks for the tips! I already heard a great deal about how overwhelming it is. I guess the best thing to do to fully experience the game is to finish the campaign on my own without looking at guides (maybe only when needed), then go in deeper. Is this new league village construction thing part of the campaign or is it end game stuff?
@@BelialTnTn if you think you're an above average arpg player who feels at ease reading stats and don't mind studying a massive skilltree and countless skillgems before allocating your exp points consciously and managing your gear accordingly, then why not try beating the campaign without any guide. If you realize early that you maybe don't feel so confident with all the above and the skilltree is giving you anxiety attacks, treat yourself with a guide for a build that looks cool to you. It's basically close to impossible to get your first character right on a first try. There's just a bit too much to learn and make sense of as a newplayer. And it befomes even truer when you get to the endgame. Regarding the whole "settlers" part of the new league, I haven't checked yet if it's there already during the campaign, but usually all the new mechanics GGG introduce can be found in the first few acts already.
Of the 3 (D4, LE, and PoE) I've been really diving into D4 and LE. I've played a few seasons here and there of PoE but I tend to burn out a bit with the complexity and just volume of stuff to know / learn. But damn, I'm excited for this and will be giving PoE another go when this launches. Regardless, we are in the GOLDEN AGE of ARPG's and I am loving every minute of it. LETS GO BOYYYZZZZ
im a 8 year vet and I still get lost in the sauce lol. Just a word of advice, take your time and have fun. You don't need to do pinacle bosses to "beat the game", but strive one day to be able to do them. It's all about learning and having fun! The game has so many things to do, you will never get bored, only overwhelmed, but like I said, take a breath, have fun, and you can't go wrong.
Absolutely one of the game's strong point imho. The soundtrack packs so much atmosphere, from utter melancholy to epic orchestral bombast. It's not that far from D2 in terms of greatness.
I miss some tracks from back around the beta and 1.0 era. OG Lioneye's Watch is outstanding, the original Solaris Temple track really nailed the atmosphere, and the Warehouse District/Marketplace soundtrack from back in the day remains my favorite!
@@deceiver444 D2 OST's are not even that great. PoE's music is orders of magnitudes better than anything in the Diablo franchise. I'm not trying to shit on Diablo btw, it's how I personally feel.

ive seen this reveal countless times. its amazeballs! i even bought the 60 dollar supporter pack to support GGG. normally i wait to see how the league feels first. to me, this is different because its more to support their philosophy than just this league/expansion. also, i hope to play a lot of the league but sometimes that doesnt happen. no matter. tihs game is phenomenal and so are the devs.
I dropped D3 for it back in the day and never looked back, not saying I didn't give d4 a chance, but I just laughed the whole week at launch at how bad it was and how bad it made me wanna play POE.
you know you can play more than 1 game right? ARPG space is amazing right now with all the seasonal content between POE/D4/Last Epoch/Torchlight and anything else you want in between.
@@db212006 D4 has great visuals and wonderful cut scenes but the game itself feels lackluster and lacks any kind of lasting appeal. It's mildly fun for a few hours and that's about it. Switching to PoE was an eye opening experience
GGG are simply brilliant. I've spoken with several of their team over the years and they're the nicest and most enthusiastic game devs out there. I cannot wait to play this new season and am happy to continue to support their great work. I wear my PoE hoodie with great pride.
They might sound similar, but banners are different in ways that make them much healthier for melee gameplay loop. Banners require you to be hitting/killing things to gain charges before you can place them for maximum effectiveness. This means you aren't punished for not always having them active 100% of the time. The problem with totems is they have no usage restrictions, so if you aren't constantly spamming them out for 100% up time, you are playing wrong. The banner functions more like a long cooldown buff that you save until you're going to be sitting around in one spot for a bit like killing a map boss. Also, banners aren't a substantially chunk of your core melee damage (most of them are defensive buffs), so they can put most of your damage onto the actual attacks your character uses instead of having it split between you and another entity. Also, totems easily die and have a cast time, while banners are invulnerable and instant cast. So you're not stopping your attacks or movement to constantly summon totems.
I think it's an improvement on current banners, but I wish it wasn't a thing. In PoE you use a limited amount of active skills, so the action economy goes to micromanaging passive cooldowns and I just find it to be tiresome after awhile. Having one less buff to drop while stacking my damage to fight the boss would be much more welcome.
@@alex7435 From the looks of it. Banners are just basically getting an across the board buff tbf. They will actually have a use in bosses for melee. Before this. It was pretty much just a filler aura. You used it cause it was cheap and basically free. It's still kind of free but has way more benefits to it.
17:50 ish regarding the trading marketplace, the main reason they said against it was because they had no way to tax it. This was until they had the idea of simply adding gold which cannot itself be traded to other people
They've always positioned against asynchronous trading because it fundamentally changes how the market behaves in ways that people complaining about not having an AH/market never bothered to think about. For one in synchronous systems there is an opportunity cost for servicing trades, which sellers would naturally roll into the value of common goods and this would create a price floor, i.e. I'm not leaving my maps for less than X size trade. This is why bulk was higher value not lower. More importantly in synchronous systems the available on-hand supply was only people who were online + able to trade + willing to trade. So you're own goods and drops weren't competing in price against listings from people who weren't online. In asynchronous systems the friction and opportunity cost is removed, which means the price floors are too. Similarly, if the market allows for trading with players who are offline then the available supply of on-hand goods could multiply several times causing further pricing competition and value deflation. The fear is its very easy for an AH/market place system to destroy the value of actually playing the game. Being able to instantly buy the thing you want without having to deal with whispers and face to face trading sounds way better until you're faced with an economy where you can't generate wealth to spend.

This announcement has made me reconsider the d4 expansion. Based on principle. How can GGG do this for FREE and d4 cant do anything for free? My d4 playtime is over i think.
The fact that the devs still keep updating and making POE 1 better with 2 around the corner shows the dedication and love they have for their games and for the community that plays their games. Much respect!

@@markaurelius2333PoE is still a free game though. Besides a few specific qol stashes that you'll want to buy at some point, the rest is just cosmetics that you can skip 100%. GGG's micro transactions model is defo not on the predatory side and most players are just happy to buy some cool looking outfits for their characters to support the devs. Especially with these kinds of huge ass updates.
If your looking for a time sink.... PoE has you covered more than you can imagine, literally you can't fathom how much time you can spend adapting and learning in this game, its absolutely incredible. You literally couldn't dream of learning close to everything in just one league no matter how much time you spend on the game, its impossible

I played about 100 hours 2-3 years ago. Going back to watch your beginners guides and going to give the game another shot. Really enjoyed my first experience but endgame was a bit overwhelming but this update seems worth a bit more effort this time around.
I think for endgame you’re never going to crack the code in one league. Just focus on one system or farm you enjoy and set some mini goals for the league. This is what I do every league and I’m still far from done. Don’t try to compare yourself and try to “beat the game”.

The fact I can't seamlessly switch between gamepad and mouse depending on combat vs inv management is beyond frustrating. I'll just wait until PoE2 launches. I think the chances of that not being implemented in PoE2 are slim to none

About the auction house mentality... Chris was always the gatekeeper of good ideas. Now that he's moved to PoE2 and Mark has taken over, it's flourishing with many many good changes. Turns out actually playing the game for real let's you understand what people really want and need. Chris' way of thinking was infuriating.

Playing on console, and a few leagues ago I got so frustrated with the trading system that I quit and promised myself I'm not going to return until POE2. This league makes me wanna break this promise. God damnit GGG. PS. I really hope GGG will introduce at one point the possibility to check the average prices of items. It is an excruciating experience constantly checking third party sites to check prices of items.
in interviews they said that they want to make gold drop, because now they see ther mistake while they removed all arrows/potions/gold drops that was "useless" in diablo 2 - that was lead to current "lot of useless loot" situation. While gold drop could be minor but still a reward for killing mobs that not make you feel bed that you left it on the ground
Banners existed along side totems, melee totems were more "active set and forget damage" that got rolled into melee skill gems. Banners are instant and you only really want to place them against strong groups or bosses. They also still buff the entire party/all your minions whereas melee totems didn't.
Disenchant as in removing magic spell from a person or object goes back to the 16th century and is based on the French word desenchanter that goes back to 13 century.
Ive never played poe because of that fkng massive skill tree that i always read was irreversible so if you mess up you basically wasted time. I see that respec skills with gold feature, is that not huge? Might be time for me to give it a go.
You could always respec with orbs of regret, you'd normally at the end of campaign have enough to reroll half your tree if needed. And in maps they were pretty common and one of the lesser currencies. They were just rarer in the first basic acts as with all currency.
GGG has around ~140 employees. Some information leaked like a year ago. Turns out most of the people are busy with PoE 2 exclusively. Only around ~20 people are still working on PoE 1 and have designed the last ~5 leagues (including this massive one). Blizzard made Diablo 4 with a small town of over 9000 people. And they still can't figure out stash tabs. 🤣 Let that sink in for a moment.
THIS is what d4 apologists are still failing to understand - PoE isn't just a "game with a decade+ of content". It's a game, that dares to try things. It's a game, that HAS creative people behind it. And most importantly - this ISN'T gated behind 40$+. /spit @Blizzard.
@@Dave-sw8yh All content in the game is free. WHOLE. To make trading more convenient, you need paid tabs. But you can trade without them. The content is free - the amenities are paid. The game is free - they need to earn money somehow. And I know people who have achieved everything in the game - without paying a penny.
18:00 they changed their mindset for PoE2, after D4 and LE launches happened. They said that gamers won't accept non-instant trade anymore, but we didnt know they'd put it into poe1 as well. That was a surprise with this announcement.

Im Pretty new to POE but Ive never seen anything like this game. Why Cant every free to play game treat their community this way?????????? I never looked at the MT in this game cause I figured ive seen everything that has to offer from other free to play games. Boy was I wrong. The thoughtfulness and utility of the packs you can buy blew my mind. I watched all the videos for the different themes and couldnt stop smiling. Just extremely creative. I then spent 50 dollars lol. They deserve it. Im pretty sure that is my first purchase of a MT in any game ever. Tip of the hat to you GGG.
Yeah the gladiator change is for the better, it felt all over the place before. This is a more focused version, but we won't know how good it really is until people iterate on builds enough to find the limits and the cracks.
The currency market is a temporary thing for this league that they might implement if it works out. They opened up to the idea when Last Epoch introduced their trade system since it now was an expected part of ARPGs. This is probably best of both worlds. Testing it out in a league and limited to stackable currencies only. It is ok that they try it I guess. I hope they never expand it to include items though.
11:13 pausing here to say that this is EXACTLY what this genre is missing, basic base building, progression outside of your character. If diablo and LE had these they'd be massively better games, especially D4 as it already has unique regions with capital cities. LOVE THIS
on the topic of campaign improvements. some of them are hyper useful for leveling. dweller of the deep give you an essence is immensely good to use. flasks in the prison have a very high chance for quicksilver, large life, and large mana flasks. thats huge.
I’m a new POE player. Getting in now and playing my first campaign run, really fun. Even for a 10yr old game it’s better than D4. Very excited for the season
Question for Rax’s audience or Rax himself. I don’t have a gaming computer so I am stuck playing on a PS5 which is been fine for Diablo. I’ve really enjoyed it specifically this current season. I’ve heard POE can be frustrating on a console, is that true? Has anyone been playing it on a console and been enjoying it? Really like the look of this new season or whatever they call it so maybe I thought I’d tried it out
Been playin on xbox for years and its not bad now...before next gen consoles it wasnt great and its better this league with things they are implementing

Trading sucks because of the lower player base. Anyway, try (free) and be excited for POE 2 which will be another game and consoles taken into account from the start of development. It will be great on consoles. Important: do not want to know everything and play every league mechanics. You do not need to. Thought the game is deep so probably you will read a ton of guides etc. But first time try and get a taste of it.
I chose to play a magic find build. I wouldn't have chosen to play a magic find build. I'm confused. You just proved that it serves its purpose and you found value in its purpose, which is to help you find better items without specifically scaling more monsters. It's a pretty simple multiplier of richness.
I mean id love to play POE if i could ever make it out of the damn campaign. So much going on in it bro gotta have 2 3rd party apps, a build guide, a personal trainer, to just sift through it and if you mess up you brick a character and have to start over
you don't need it to have fun,DM already exposed that attitude. You can just go blind, have fun, tho you will not clear all content on first try. But that's the entire point of going blind.Adventure itself is FUN.
Yes, you're correct. They had previously refused to implement anything of the sort, even something specialized like this currency trade hub. I think the key to the change of mind is the introduction of Gold into the equation. Since they are creating multiple gold sinks that are all attractive, I would guess they believe there is sufficient friction with the need for gold to mitigate the previously discussed risks (bots, too easy, no trade experience, etc...). I've been playing for six years, so maybe there are other reasons from before that the real OGs can describe. I for one welcome the experimentation. Even if it fails now, they will use it to improve PoE2.
I have never played POE before. The stuff I saw with trading and owing a village, while also being able to respect is making me want to try poe. Much less daunting to try and start this game
This update is good for casual players. Your are able to gather resources/items while you away and have no time to play. However it is not disturbing the non casual players.
They always wanted a certain level of friction with trading so that you're not just trading with a faceless mass. I think a big reason they're more okay with this is the fact that there's a gold sink in it and people are viewing these games more as an MMO than an RPG where you can interact with people.
For some history on trading. In D2 a lot of people enjoyed trading for the "social experience" and it was kind of nice, even going back to some mods. But in that instance people actually replied and didn't trade massive amounts of different items. In D3 even besides the real money AH people actually stopped playing the game. The screenshot of the D3 auction house as the actual game was a common meme. If people didn't flip they were just grinding gold. It was basically "grind the game 10 hours or flip 1 hour". A "no friction instant auction house" in an ARPG has the potential to kill the game entirely. Last epoch is kind of in the middle as you need to grind out your guild levels, but it does feel very much like deterministic loot moreso than anything else. Personally played online trade the first time and I didn't even bother looting any uniques with low LP as they are all 0 gold items. Progression still felt fine for me, but I'm not sure about how I feel about every unique item in the game being worth 0 gold.
All the cool mechanics and system updates they add to POE always seem great. But tbh until the “feel” to it is as good as D4 I’ll always play D4 instead. It’s hard for me to describe what it is. The responsiveness and movement just feels smoother there. If we can get that in like POE or Last Epoch I’m into it.
They havent changed their mind on auction houses. They always said they do not want an auction house where people can snipe gear from, and thats a smart view from them. That makes all the best gear always go into the hands of botters. This is just a currency market, which is fine.
