The Path of Light - The Bodhi-Charyavatara of Santi-Deva by Shantideva. (Translated by Lionel David Barnett) - Shantideva is particularly renowned as the author of the Bodhicaryavatara (sometimes also called the Bodhisattvacaryavatara). An English translation of the Sanskrit version of the Bodhicaryavatara is available online, as well as in print in a variety of translations, sometimes glossed as "A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way Of Life" or "Entering the Path of Enlightenment." It is a long poem describing the process of enlightenment from the first thought to full buddhahood and is still studied by Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhists today.
It has ten chapters dedicated to the development of bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment) through the practice of the six perfections (Skt. Pāramitās). The text begins with a chapter describing the benefits of the wish to reach enlightenment. The sixth chapter on the Pāramitā of patience (Skt. Kṣānti, kshanti) is considered by many Buddhists to be the pinnacle of writing on this subject and is the source of numerous quotations attributed to Śāntideva. Tibetan scholars consider the ninth "Wisdom" chapter to be one of the most succinct expositions of the Madhyamaka view. The tenth chapter is used as one of the most popular Mahāyāna prayers. Chapter One actually starts at about 50:00, and times in description are off after that. If I can get the rest of the times I'll be happy to put them in for my fellow Boddhisatvas in training.

The translation has several Western religious translations using words that do not apply or correspond with the teachings or Eastern thought. This must be a very old translation because that misinterpretation and bias was common in the early phases.

I was going to add a similar comment providing my personal thoughts for what they are worth. There are many examples where this could do with a new edition. For one, there is no such thing as Buddhist Church. Secondly, Buddhism has no concept of 'good' and 'evil' only actions that generate karma. Right actions generate karma that diminishes dilution and brings us closer to reality or the bodhisattva ideal.Wrong actions add to karma that deepens ignorance.

the translator should have stuck to translating, rather then role play as a historian or a buddhist scholar.. he says buddha's teaching was in harmony with hinduism, dude first hinduism is a very recent term, and the only reliable prehistoric source of hindu ideology are the three vedas, cos during the times of the buddha he clearly mentions these brahmans with there knowledge of the three vedas are nothing but laughable.. according to vedas the universe had a beginning and was created, which buddhist denies, according to vedas after death people either go to heaven (pitrlok) or to hell(nark) with no concept of rebirth.. the concept of rebirth was brought in by the jains and later it influenced both hindus and buddhists.. according to hindus there is a self or Atma and the core of buddhist teaching is that there is no self or Atma, and all phenomena are intrinsically empty cause everything is interdependent.. so one should abstain from commenting on a subject in which u r not an expertise..
