Back in my druggie days I would watch this show very late at night or morning? A ray of brightness in my darkest days. The Patty Duke Show will always have a special place in my heart...
I miss my childhood. I watched this on Nick at Night in the late eighties (I was 8 - 9 years old). My mom taught me about classic movies and tv shows. I developed a slight crush on Patty Duke, even though she was waaaay older then me at that point.
Everyone had a school crush on beautiful Patty on this classic tv show. Left us wayyyy to soon. Continue to RIP sweet Patty, thanks for what you left the world of film and tv.
I used to think the same thing about the way they wrote June Cleaver’s character but if you check out, Still the Beaver which I recently found on RU-vid you’ll see a different June. She’s widowed, stronger and more outspoken while helping “The Beav” raise his 2 boys. She became my favorite character. 💖
Sidney Sheldon was asked to design a show around Patty Duke and had her live with his family the summer before the show started--he noticed that Patty had two different personalities-quiet sometimes and excitable at other times--hence he came up with Patty and Cathy Lane--later Patty Duke was diagnosed with bipolar disorder likely first seen by Sidney Sheldon
Note: Theme song, "Cousins" performed by The Skip-Jacks (which including the Playboy model, Stella Stevens) which also performed The Flintstones theme song.
I watched it every Wednesday on ABC. I even pretended I had a cousin from England visiting for the neighbor kids. They didn't buy it. one of the great 60s sitcom.
It was absurd that with all this talent, the series only lasted 3 seasons. Patty Duke's talent alone should have convinced the executives to keep the series going another 6 or 7 seasons.
I was 1 when this show aired I'm 60 now had a crush on her forever my wife of 37 years looks so much like her u would mistake them for sisters RIP Patty miss you
I always loved this show, still do. I watched it back in the day when it was originally on, I even had a paper doll set. I think Patty Duke was a great actress and overcame so much. RIP in heaven!
I love this show so much! Such a nice family and teens that were respectful of their parents. I prefer to watch these classic shows and dream of a life where this is the norm. Thanks for bringing us this great show!
@@ClassicTvShowsCTS Hey, this reply is 3 years late, but thanks to you posting this series, I've discovered my favourite actress and role model. So thank you!
I used to watch the show in high school. I still remember the theme song. Patty was really, really good. If you read her book, she says that William Shallert was like a father to her.
The French-language teacher is Jean Pierre Aumont. I remember seeing him in Mahagony(1975) with Diana Ross. He was on " What's My Line" in 1955 as the mystery guest. P.S. It was televised in B&W. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xpmVkXvNhPQ.html
I also noticed that almost all of her shows that involve school are integrated with black and white students in which, it’s never heard of her era on classic 1960’s tv!
Also on Antenna-TV, they cut some of the show to make room for commercial announcements...here..we get to enjoy it complete...uncut...and commercial free!!📺👍📺👍🏆
OMG always heard of this great tv show, now only able to watch it thanks to you!!!!!!thank you so much!!!!and what a great tribute to the late Patty Duke(RIP).So excited to enjoy it...................
loved patty duke in the TV show as an older women being close to a little boy they sent off to school she was precious in this . rerun like little patty duke great actress.
I was eight years old when this show aired, as a child, I always had thought the two girls were different people. I did not realize they were both Patty Duke.
In Patty Duke‘s bio call me Anna she went and stayed with Sydney Sheldon for a short period time while he worked out a pilot for Patty Duke he noticed her personality would change due to her bipolar and this is where the idea of this TV show came into place
@ALLAN CHARLES It's true, bipolar and split personality are two different mental health disorders, but that doesn't mean Cat Lom is wrong. The guy really did get the idea from seeing her in and out of episodes, likely manic episodes. He didn't know what it was or understand it, but her drastic changes in behaviors, attitude, personality, etc are what inspired the twin cousin thing... Just to be clear, no one said he diagnosed her, only that her mental health issues inspired him. To address your wording: this is not a theory. This is factual.
They showed this on nickelodeon in the 80s & very early 90s how did I miss this funny show I saw all the old reruns like lassie & dennis the menace on the channel & I stumbled on the old nickelodeon commercial for this thank you youtube.
Jean Pierre Aumont was excellent as Andre Malone the French teacher in this episode of the Patty Duke Show. Jean-Pierre Philippe Salomons 5 January 1911 - 30 January 2001
Yeah, I saw this just last year or year before but only this episode. It was really funny. Patty dresses well and the theme is good too. I just remembered it today and also how she said if the network wasn't so cheap then the show could've gone on in colour. She's a good actress who dresses well. This episode was great. Ah, French is the best isn't it?..........
Watching this again. Just realized that Martin referred to Andre as the ‘miracle worker’ at 16:48. Funny to hear that after I learned that Patty Duke actually was in The Miracle Worker.
She won a special Oscar for playing young Helen Keller. Then she came back as an adult and played the Miracle Worker herself. And did a pretty decent job. But the original movie with Patty and Ann Bancroft was almost too perfect. Powerful. A true gem.
It wasn’t long before they realize that they didn’t need the Cathy character. The show is basically about Patty the teenager and her family. The last episodes Patty was able to wear make up and look better and she looked really good. And the Ross character, her brother, he was terrific. He could’ve ended up with his own show! What ruined this program was lost in space. This program is on ABC and had a big audience until lost in space game on CBS and that was the end of the Patty Duke audience. They all went over to lost in space. I was one of those people.
Thelma Thompson oh I forgot to talk about the show... I loved the show back in the day ... I watched cartoons after that but watched Lost in Space an My 3 Sons also The Nanny ...loves that song also
@@formula1dude531 Well Thank you I am just me I have been told I am beutifu for my age thanks Belky Belk love Kathy n Patty .My sister look just like patty an dacted like Kathy prom and primper
I remember watching syndicated Patty Duke Show's, on WPIX, 45- 48 years ago. Those prints kept the voice over, 'the Patty Duke Show has been brought to you by....', with the background music at the end of the opening credits and as the story ends. These prints are a hatchet job, even as it goes into the opening theme song, that's lopped off, too. They don't know what they are doing.
Mxx Hxx - it's ok. The real deal is always better. People do the best they can you know. I'm sure if the poster had better video they'd have posted that. The quality is great on these as is the sound. There's a lot about these shows that are really good and if you miss an opening voice or something, oh well. Just enjoy the shows and thank the poster. We should be grateful there are any episodes available. If you cannot say something nice you shouldn't say anything at all. Hugs. :)
How long was it between this episode and the pilot? How come Patti looks so DIFFERENT? In the pilot, she had short curly hair, and she was YOUNGER And Ross, even though it's a different Ross looks YOUNGER here than he did on the pilot!
PATTY THE NUMBER ONE FOR ME, SHE WAS LAID IN THE CRADLE FOR ACTING (IN DUTCH WE SAY IT LIKE THAT, IF SOMEONE HAS SO MUCH TALENT, THAT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE LAID IN THE CRADLE FOR ... .................. ME, I AM NOT LAID IN THE CRADLE FOR ??? (POOR ME !, HAA !) GREETINGS G
I'm... confused by this concept. Why identical cousins? Wouldn't it make more sense to be twin sisters, separated at birth? Were they too afraid that it would sound like a rip-off of "The Parent Trap"?
Wow popular when i was 7. This was hot back then plus a nightime soap peyton place. Come to think of it i think america tended to be more educated and sophisticated back then. Now all you see are fat tatooed mall pigs...but they usually have perfect nails to go with their louis vittan knock off
