It’s nice that most of us were watching the same thing. There weren’t many choices, so we could talk to each other about it. Today, there are thousands of programs to listen to and we aren’t all on the same page, so we’re not really talking about the same things that give us pleasure. It’s seems mostly horrible world news that is in our faces 24/7. I’m glad we have these memories.❤️
I wish they had made more than one season of Gidget, I really enjoy this show. If anyone has any recommendations for shows with a similar vibe, I'm all ears 😊
It was only one season wow I liked this show even though I wasn't born when it came out I caught the reruns when it was on Decades they had a binge so I watched and like it
Any family shows from the 1950s and 1960s are terrific and worth watching. I would not be growing up today for anything. I was born in 1955, and it was a great time to grow up.
She is playing a 15 1/2year old dating a 21 year old college student. That would be prison Time for that guy. Yes I know she was 18 at the time in reality.
I have always loved the older shows. They were just better made and really relied on REAL acting. Something that we just do not have anymore thanks to AI and CGI!
Her cute face with-a-sprinkle-of-mischief and twinkle in her eye never changed…After all these years whenever I look at Sally Field I still see Gidget! 😂💜
@@Kara-kx1lb Thanks! It was last month actually. But isn't Sally Field the cutest here? And turned out to be a damn fine actress! "Norma Rae" was her best IMO.
I'm 68, and I was ten when this premiered. LOVED this show! Super time to be growing up. Wouldn't trade it for anything, would not be growing up today for anything either.
I can remember seeing this show vaguely at the age of 4 (makes me the youngster of 62 pushing 63 for the ones admitting their ages when they watched this classic)......I think this was ABC's first show to make its debut in color......there were other shows that were in place that eventually made the switch from black and white to color......
ABC's first regularly scheduled color program was "THE JETSONS", in September 1962. In those days, they could only afford to schedule about three prime-time color programs every season- until September 1965, when about half of their evening lineup was colorcast- including "GIDGET". They didn't go "all-color" until September 1966 (and even then, their daytime programming remained mostly in black and white until the fall of 1967); Saturday and Sunday morning cartoons were in color by the fall of '64. However, not all of ABC's stations were equipped for color telecasting until the early 1970's.
@fromthesidelines Just for clarification, meant a non-animated program - I just hadn't remembered seeing any other ABC regular shows being in color before Gidget......
This is one of the classics.. I’ve been watching for several years.. I get to pick up some gems 💎 can anyone recommend any other classics.. which can come even close:😊?
After my kindergarten teacher and the older super sweet girl (probably 10 year old) that rode the school bus that I rode Sally Fields was the love of my life.
Is there anyone reading these comments at this account because this series stayed on for about one season because I was never around back in the 60s when Sally feel made her first debut in the series because I remembered it was still airing this series back on Philadelphia WTAF channel 29 in the 80s when I was dead12 year old because I remember in the summertime back in the 80s, this show used to come on around 930 or 10 o’clock in the morning.
6:36 hah imagine al the parents who made their kids go to sleep on that first commercial break ending music, not even wanting to open this pandoras box hah
... the Studio folks have tried to Cancel almost every good TV show ever offered to them - they have no vision at all for what will be a Hit Show ... ...when I read about a Television Programme on Wikipedia...I am surprised that anything ever got made , because the Studios fought them every inch of the way ...
The end credits had Pete Duel's character's name wrong they put Larry instead of John. But they got his real full name correct ( before he changed the spelling of his last name).
... I know Exactly what you mean - Gidget ... I mean Sally Fields ... has had more than a reasonable amount of scenes like that in her movies , too : she is ABSOLUTELY into her feets. The Super - Sharp , must be High Definition Colour of this Television 📺 Programme just makes them look all the Cuter ... I can Count her individual Toes in the Close-ups : This Little Piggies 🐷 Piggies 🐷 are going to Market !
Much prefer the Flying Nun This seems too cheesy even fo1965.She seems to be able to put anything to good use but lacks the subtle approach of some others check out Sandra Dee. She almost sounds self mocking.
The acting style back then was quite commonly exaggerated. Particularly, in sitcoms. Even looking back at dramatic performances of the era from the likes of Elizabeth Taylor would under a modern lens be deemed absurdly terrible. The more Naturalistic and subdued acting style that is far more prevalent now did not become normalized until much later.
anyone remember the episode where Gidget decided to raise money for the crippled kids by entering one of those spanking marathons that were all the rage in those days?
