I am 50, lost both parents back to back, lost my dog, moved to a new state. I gained 30lbs and feel absolutely miserable! So much pain every night, it’s hard to sleep. I do appreciate this information. I’m on HrT now but I really need to focus on my diet and lifting weights. I’m so happy Doctors are finally taking notice of our age group. I have felt so lost 😢
Thanks for sharing your story, and we encourage you to look into the Galveston Diet on our website. Link is in the video description! It is more of a lifestyle with a focus on anti-inflammatory nutrition! XOXO Community Support Team
Hi Cindy, I had the same thing happen to me, moved to another state and then had to deal with crazy stuff going on. I had to heal almost every part of my body from the top of my head, now I’m dealing with my feet. I begged doctors to help me and nobody would give me info about what exactly was going on. I’m really upset that I had to figure this all out myself and only NOW there are videos like this.
This is the part of menopause that truly scares me. Thank you for creating a list of actionable steps for us to work toward a better possible future rather than just letting age take over! ❤ For dedicating so much time and care to us all
Love love love dr haver !!! She is such a pro ! I am 53 on HRT since one year and half it is getting better and better ❤HRT is life saving Thanks ladies blessings
@@Dmblover1924Dr Haver and my gynecologist like to prescribe the following HRT medications: transdermal Estradiol patch, oral micronized Progesterone, and vaginal Estradiol cream.
Omg! I have to thank you Doctors very much, for taking the time to inform us about your findings, it helps us to understand a lot of what our bodies feel, and not knowing what it could be, God Bless you ❤
I am really appreciative of all of the info you are putting out into the world for us Dr. Haver, thank you! I am peri-m and have been taking 300mg Prometrium for two years. I just had my bloodwork done and my estrogen is 4008 pmol/L which is very high. My doctor wasn't even going to mention it, saying my bloodwork looked good. I pointed it out and she said it is likely high because of the progesterone I am taking. Without you, I would have accepted that at face value. But, I haven't heard you or any other expert, say that the body will make more estrogen in response to taking progesterone. What I have heard is that estrogen can become dominant when unopposed by progesterone. And, that there are risks associated with high estrogen. So, I am going elsewhere for advice. Thank you for empowering me with knowledge to self-advocate. I am determined to get real answers.
Thank you so much for this informative talk! This is everything that’s going on with me. High inflammation, horrible sleep, unstoppable weight gain, & my whole body aches. I finally got on estrogen therapy but I’m still trying to find the answers to feeling better! I’m so tired of being told that this is a normal progression at age 51!!
Dr. Haver has a great blog with her top 4 tips for finding top notch menopause care on our website. Link is in this video's description! XOXO Community Support Team
Your docs don't know what to they are talking about. I know this is hard when you feel awful but keep trying until you find a doc with training inmenopause management.
I'm so grateful that RU-vid's algorithm suggested your videos! Not sure how the algorithm "knew" that I might be peri-menopausal, but I'm not complaining. I've lost too many family members to heart conditions, and on my mom's side there's a strong incidence of RA. I will not be like them!! Taking all of this advice to my next ObGyn visit. :)
Amazing discussion! I always had my hormones on a roller-coaster since my menarh, felt great on the pill until I got off and got pregnant with my first child, exact 1 month after stopping the CP. After the birth of my child stated progesterone, didn't work very well, so I opted for Mirena, again felt great, 1.5 years ago removed the IUD as wanting the second child... and oh my God the symptoms, a true night mare, GI symptoms are huge, PMS symptoms that I never experianced before, lower AB pain, sensitivity to food...so strange... Now I'm wandering isn't it perimenopause?! Crazy... My Mom got into Menopause at ~47 and now she is 64, and she is in pain big time... Was never on HRT... And nobody can help her.. She cannot sleep well, her muscle hurt, there is some osteoporosis... Gosh, women shouldn't decline like this. It infuriates me when some are saying you can fix everything with lifestyle... That's a lie... I exercised and eat healthy since I remember and only that doesn't help!!!
I reported to my gym when I was into early 30s of breast pain- his response was that I was large breasted and that answered his question. I told him they grew to the point I was in at 15…. And were never painful. Now learning it’s a symptom…because it was a year after I had menstrual migraines.
Menopause was absolutely horrible for me. The symptom check list is long and I can check off almost all of them except weight gain and bladder issues. I’m 60 and menopause occurred for me at 51. Sleep was the biggest though which had a huge impact on everything especially mood. Once someone finally said yes to HT things were much better but then developed vaginal dryness and was told I couldn’t take both oral and vaginal estrogen so was taken off oral HT and symptoms returned. In early 2021 I was diagnosed with 1A endometrial cancer so most HT is now not an option. I use estradoil in the form of vagifem and topical Divigel. Sleep still isn’t as good as I would like, still get night sweats often, general mood is off, feel anxious and mildly depressed, no motivation or libido…..I don’t feel like I should. I’ve been lucky enough to have a helpful NP for primary care and a NP trained through the NAMS but am still struggling.

OMG!!! YESSS!! I was just A pain in legs...! JUST PAIN!! I used to ask once and again my brother who's my age if he was feeling the same, because I was just PAIN...! 😱😱😱😱 I NEVER expected it!! I just KNEW that it was UTTERLY weird... And that it had to do with my hormones, so I started searching, and OH MY GOD...! 😱 I SOOOOOOO thankful that I found THE TRUTH...! 🙏🏻❤🙌🏻 26:50, "you know what works!". 27:35, "Arthralgia". 36:55, protein intake. 42:16, Dexa Scan.
Thank you so much for this webinar, it's sad to realize the poor attention most midlife women receive from their medical providers. This is not only happening in the USA but also in Europe. Again thank you Dr Haver for making public this discussion. Greetings from Germany.
I’ve been in menopause for approximately 10 years. I’m 54. No sleep is killing me and I have night sweats. I’m also struggling with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I have finally been prescribed bioidentical hormones by a functional practitioner but I’ve been hearing doctors saying after 10 years isn’t good. Any advice.
Fabulous discussion! Thank you, so much interesting information, but I am curious, why our fascia didn’t even get a mention? There are some recent studies on declining levels of hormones and their effect on connective tissue. Oestrogen is ant- inflammatory and anti -fibrotic, it helps muscle glide and joint function, without it we get inflammation and fibrosis, hence arthralgia and other soft tissue problems. And there is also interesting research on targeted fascia release that can significantly improve symptoms of musculoskeletal syndrome in menopause. These can be done as self-care routine or incorporated into Pilates and Yoga sessions. Lifting weights and doing Zone 2 training is great, but if we combine them with Fascial fitness, we can prevent injuries, increase mobility and flexibility. It also helps with osteopenia, particularly, those fascia care modalities that involve targeted tissue pressure using our own body weight. It would interesting to hear your opinion on it and highlight it in future discussions.
My joint pain went away with HT, but I had to stop due to my migraines. It is all back and I wish I knew what would help. Anything you can share for the people that can’t handle the hormones would be amazing. 🙏🏻 52 still menstruating
There are different styles of yoga that can build muscle. For example, Ashtanga and Vinyasa. You sweat and your muscles are definitely challenged by lifting some or all of your body weight. Would that be enough muscle building?
I've practiced yoga especially strength poses, I say get one day, every 7 to 10, of "traditional" resistance training. Using weights, and resistance bands will help with weighted movement, and negatives that the yoga doesn't provide.
I am 50, and can’t go from a sitting to standing position without pain, standing for a few minutes and shuffling. I went from 114 to 130 in a month. Got worked up for heart failure, and was changed off a Amyloidosis medication. No one said anything! I started to run my own test through labs. FSH and LH show post menopausal levels. I have been systematic for years! I even had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest with CPR last year. They could not find anything wrong! Few weeks ago I had abdominal ultrasound to see why I was so bloated. I found out that I have fatty liver, pancreas’s, and something wrong with gallbladder. Visceral fat I am sure! So thankful that I came across Dr. Haver’s video. Found a doctor that started HRT. Now this video…. Validation. Thank you!
Just having discovered you via Diary of a CEO, I'd like to know, please what the protocol for a 70 year old woman would be? You mentionded on the podcast that you have a list of physicians and health care workers that adhere to your protocols. I live in the Twin Cities and would love to find a new physician for post menopause issues. Thank you! Btw, when you mentioned the assigning of the "WW" (whining woman) diagnosis to we women, I had to laugh and cry simultaneously.
Should above 60 year olds begin taking estrogen if they never have before but have lost muscle mass and have gained wt. yet still are very active? I can’t find this information anywhere? Advice is mostly directed towards 50 year olds.
Who would you recommend to see in Australia? Hysterectomy remaining 1 ovary, substantial endometriosis 3 years ago, 2 years ago started on oestriol, testrogel. Current tendinitis, bursitis in hip pelvis area and reduced mobility in right hip. Have had shoulder bursitis and steroid treatment prior to hysterectomy. Low Vit d on and off. Osteoarthritis is evident in lower spine. Can’t take NSAID’s due to reflux. I will research into everything you’ve said. Thankyou
We do not have any recommendations for healthcare providers in Australia, but we encourage you to talk to family and friends who may have a good recommendation. You can also look for support groups on social media who may have recommendations in your area. XOXO Community Support Team
Not a comment specific to this video - but I just got my first prescription of the estradiol transdermal patch filled, and the entirety of the information on the insert that came inside the box is stated to be from the WHI study 😤
I could deadlift 285lbs at age 47. I'll be 49 next month, and my max weight is 250 lbs. And that's with creatine supplementation!! Your strength and power dwindle quickly!! If I didn't keep it up, I'd be weak AF right now. 🤣 Not a choice for me.
I was told I can’t have HRT as I have had abnormal cells and cannot have oestrogen products, is this right? I’m 58 now I’ve had the most long and symptomatic menopause which tbh has been horrendous. The hot flashes relentless day & night for years. Im so sleep deprived! So many other symptoms too. HELP !
Tell me, with all the new info on the positives of HRT rapidly becoming more known, WHY is the medical community on the whole so slow to get up to speed? I am getting HRT from my doctor, but it's like pulling teeth, she still has trepidation. Furthermore, every time I pick up my estradiol patches, I read on the inserts all the dangers, "take for the shortest time possible" "May cause cancer and strokes, etc " They're still saying it causes strokes and heart attacks and dementia, rather than saying it protects us from these things. Will they ever change this?
Does jumping on a trampoline count as weight bearing exercise? I'm 59...i may or may not still be able to do a backflip. 😄 I just bought a new mat for my tramp...i hope it counts! Oh dang you guys addressed this. Excellent.😊
I am 52. It is a month that I am using patches evored sequel prescribed by my GP. I went to my GP after I heard Mary Claire doing the list of my symptoms I had from 2019 without any explanation. Frozen shoulder, fasciitis, joint pain, depression, hot flashes, disrupted sleep, trigeminal neuralgia. Now I have not anymore attacks of trigeminal neuralgia, my anxiety and depression are improved, I feel more cool, but still have joint pain and disrupted sleep and tend to be tired during the day. Should I take everyday oral progesterone and increase the dose of estrogens that I am taking, instead to alternate estrogens and progesterone patches to increase my daily energy, reduce joint pain and reduce sleep disruption? And yes: my frozen shoulder lasted a full year😅... Same with fasciitis: now, I cannot skip anymore as I did before my pregnancy or I can get terrible fascitis that can last a full year. Went away avoiding skipping and doing exercises suggested on utube for fascitis everyday focused on exercises involving the big toe.
I have widespread muscle weakness 2yrs even my tounge is affected and all muscles have fatigue. No dx from all the specialists! Any suggestions for constant muscle fatigue? Tried creatine and also hrt
"Gen X is changing things so that the Millenials will have better treatment". I'm tired of being the Crash Test Dummy that has to go through pain, suffering and years of lost productivity, only to make things better for others not myself. Aren't you all Tired? They need to make things better for US - Right Now, not later. I think I've suffered enough.
I've developed extreme sensitivity to food after COVID. I CAN'T do gluten, meat, dairy, egg. Other than tofu, nuts occasional fish (my metal count is too high so I have to watch how much Tofu/fish i eat). Any suggestions on getting enough protein? TYIA❤
You only need to take progesterone if you have a uterus, but progesterone can still have some benefits. Here is a Healthline article on the topic:www.healthline.com/health/progesterone-for-menopause XOXO Community Support Team
I am a man and my teeth ( which are bones and alive) started weakening and cracking. I went full bore 160 to 200 mg a day of Progesterone cream for 2 months. My teeth got much stronger. Dont let the tell you low progesterone is normal or good or just for your uterus. I dont have a uterus and I fixed my teeth with progesterone cream. I am back on 40 mg a day maintenance dose
@@maryclairehavermd8473. Thanks to all the data you guys put out..at age 61 went once again to another dr, Dr. Batur at Cleve Clinic who specializes..I have DDD, Mod ARthrist in my shoulders now, had frozen shoulder mid 50’s. Osteopenia from dexa I’ve know for a bit and had repeated. She said my risk is low and I will see her again to get presciribed and do her educational group sessions online also to learn more, going to read Estrogen Matters. She said she has educated some clinicians i had seen even just 5 years ago re when they told me NO. I may try this..I hope to have my anxiety and sleep improved..some night wake at 4..idk…and joint, osteopenisa from progressing and brain/cardiovascular health. I have lost 40 lbs in past 2 years and now on GLP1 that has stabilized me..but need to shed about 10 or so more I think. I run pre-hypertensive due to anxiety that is situational I believe. Did CAC score..am a 0, thankfully. Ect. Sooooooo….this wlll be a leap for me to try …any thoughts? Thanks for all the info. I also just reluctionaly had a steroid shot in my left shoulder to get it moving more in PT, Right not as painful and have good range. Getting older is about staying on top of what we can..but WOW the dr visits I am “voluntarily” dragging myself around to to get proper updated data has been crazy. Makes me anxious..but dermeined to see things through. Thoughts? Thanks again, I need to do more weight bearing exerices that am able with these issues I know. thanksfully I was a lifelong walker, jogged early on ect…it can be exhausting to get all the data and get going as i have been told NO so much.
Just saw the Meno specialist gyn 2 days ago on all this prompting and the urologist I follow also who keeps putting this out. What is her name, you did a podcast ..Caspeersin?
I understand that lifting heavy weights is important but please know what you are talking about when you tell people that Pilates is not strength training. Such a disservice to our industry and confusing for our clients. In addition, women still need to have optimal mobility for their unique body in order to safely lift heavy weights consistently. That is what Pilates does like no other system. I follow all that you both say and appreciate the changes you are making on behalf of all women but I'm asking you to please be informed about what Pilates actually is and does for the body.
I am 52, had a total hysterectomy at 44, instantly in menopause....,I struggled for years but scared to take Estrogen due to being told it increased chance of breast cancer! 3 years ago following Docs on RU-vid said get a bone scan because of high risk from not taking Estrogen and sure enough I was -2.5 on the T factor scale 😢... I was Diagnosed with Osteoporosis and had No Idea!! It is an epidemic!! I am on an Estrogen patch now but wished I had started at 44!!!
Thank you for sharing your story, and we encourage you to follow Dr. Vonda Wright as drvondawright on Instagram for more great information! XOXO Community Support Team
This is amazing! Thank you ladies for all that you do. This fear of HRT is so Real! I’m starting patches for Estrogen and Progesterone today. I’m feeling more at ease after listening to you both today. ❤
This was great. I so worry I am past the HT window - want to be on it. I am into post menopause for a few years. And identify with everything that was said. Shoulder messed up, hip hurts, etc. Always been active, worked out, etc. The “aches and pains” have significantly impacted my quality of life.
I was on BHRT when I got the frozen shoulder, but unfortunately, it was just progesterone. I was behind my symptoms because a year or two later I got an extremely low-dose of estrogen patch. Unfortunately I couldn’t tolerate more than the most minuscule amount of estrogen because it would cause horrible migraines (and I still get them no matter what, but those with an increase of estrogen landed me in the hospital). But nothing helps the joint pain in the whole body hurting thing. For the first time I have a phenomenal practitioner who I had bloodwork done, and she called out the fact that my testosterone was ridiculously low! No one talks about testosterone and how important that is with all of our aches and pains! I am now slowly getting back to a normal level as I had a pellet done for the first time and my levels are now maybe halfway there or maybe more than that. I’m hopeful that this is going to help all my pain and it’s going to naturally help increase my estrogen without increasing the patch, because that’s what happens when you get the testosterone. Fingers crossed for my future to get pain-free!! I thought I was having an autoimmune issue because I got flagged for it and bloodwork previously, but now I’m thinking it’s just the inflammation from perimenopause! My body was so sensitive to the changes that it sent my whole system on fire. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you women who have changed my life because if you look just one generation behind me with my mother, I can’t even talk about hormones with her. She’s so furious that I’m taking them and she’s so shut down because of how brainwash she is from faulty studies & PR brainwashing.
The hot flashes were nothing. I'd bust out the hand fan until it ended. Everything else was ending me. The pain, exhaustion, visceral fat squeezing my organs, my heart problems. I was like the coyote with an acme rock dropped on me.
I asked for a Dexa more than once. Told no, despite an ankle Fx. Im a thin white dairy free female w family h/o Osteo. Finally got one years later, a result which got overlooked for a year. My T-scores: 4.8! Saw endo bone specialist-not offered HRT. I’d asked many docs about HRT and told no due to a sister w clots, but no one offered genetic testing or patches. When I learned about my bones I cried for days. I treated the women whose bones broke spontaneously from weight-bearing, and still no one was talking about why. I know just how deadly my loss of bone is.
We are sorry that you have gone through this! We encourage you to follow Dr. Wright on Instagram at drvondawright for more information on menopause and joint and bone health. XOXO Community Support Team
I had the same thing at 48 and I was put on birth control, anxiety given anxiety meds, heart palpitations, saw a heart dr, my knees starting hurting and my feet, went to orthopedic surgeon, and a podiatrist telling me I had arthritis. Next came hot flashes about a year later I was told to come off birth control, to see if I was menopausal. This dr said I was but still having a period! Needless to say she told me NO on HRT, she wanted to put me back on birth control. I had to go through 10 doctors before I got it and I have to tell the doctor what I wanted including amounts!
Thank you for sharing this story! We hope your healthcare provider will take the time to learn more about the latest in menopause care! XOXO Community Support Team
How did you know what to tell them, in terms of amounts ? I can’t find an MD and my Pcp isn’t helpful. What do I ask for??? I’m post natural menopause at 47. Pls help
I just turned 48. Body pain started at 45. It's only gotten worse. I've been on birth control for over 20 years but the heavy periods started at 47. I feel like I'm crazy some days. I can't/don't want to get out of bed. I love my OB but bless her heart, she's in her 30s and about 1 1/2 years ago she had her 2nd or third child. She can't understand. Most can't afford another doctor without insurance and none of the doctors that can help, take insurance. Cash only My doctor after 1 year and only after thousands of dollars of testing agreed to put me on estradiol cream the vagina only. She says my hormones are normal. She even took me off my low estrogen birth control pill and put me on a progesterone only pill. After she changed my birth control that is when all my symptoms went through the roof. Only after that did I need the estradiol

Question about calcium supplements. I seem to need this from time to time. The research I've been able to get my hands on is all calcium carbonate. I use calcium citrate because carbonate forms of any minerals hurt my stomach. The one I use also has magnesium, Vitt D etc. as well. Is there research available on calcium in this form?
I am 56 and I went into menopause at 55years. I am still thinking about hormones. I asked my doctor and her answer was I don’t prescribe hormones and that was it.
At 58, I had frozen shoulder out of the blue, lasted about 6-8 months, I believe what helped most stretching and self massage, it hurt but I wasn't going to live with an arm I couldn't use.
I absolutely want to know professional credentials, successes, and personal motivations! I don’t just take the word of anyone in front of a smart phone to tell me whatever they want.
