All right--I bought one but my amp is in the band gig room so I've only messed with it on a little practice amp. But I was called last night to sign with a classic rock band who has a monster lead player. The guy plays into a Vox and Marshall (and he's loud). I brough the booster and he put in into his board ahead of his always on drive--and when he kicked it up to solo he used the booster in RE mode with the vintage swich on... AND WHOA--PRETTY FREAKING GREAT. Maybe the best tone I've ever heard out of his rig, and he's a vintage one and equipment freak. Impressive stuff.

@@JasonWharton82 another note--actually he placed it before his drive, and I've since had a chance to run it, and I find it easier to control before my drive as well. After the drive may (or may not) get a better tone--not sure what I think yet, as I need to play with the band, but it seems easier to dial in that way.
@JasonWharton82

@gogboxing5655 it totally depends on how you want to use it, for a volume boost put it at the end of your drives, to push a drive pedal into more gain and saturation put it before your drives. For me if it’s an always on put it at the end of your drives as well as your signal will then retain its overall tone.

@@JasonWharton82 More experimenting. I used the pedal with a DeVille 4x10 in my chain for a church gig (not my favorite amp, and obv, not classic rock, which is what I usually play). For that it worked much better at the end of my chain, with the settings fairly low (below 12 o'clock for sure. I didn't use it for everything, but I liked it. It has more magic in a classic rock setting where you can play loud, and I'll put it back at the beginning of my chain/before my drives for that. At lower volume though and for a combo of country-ish songs, christmas hyms and U2 kind of work, it was better (actually quite good) at the end of the chain, but not with the RE setting. I went CE on some stuff, natural on others and took it off warm briefly too. In a away it's a very strange pedal. I don't see it at all as an always-on pedal now, but if you are driving a solo and then can kick it for the second half of the solo, that is really where the magic happens. Or to kick up an always on pedal (recently that is my BD, but I also have a TS9 and SD-1 on the board, and it loves the SD-1). Jury is kind of still out, but on the other hand it is addicting.

@@gogboxing5655 great that you are trying it in all these scenarios though! I was experimenting with it some yesterday, I found that I quite like it with my Humbucker guitar in the CE mode, level half way gain at 9 o’clock, compressor on in front, this gave the humbuckers some extra clarity and top end that they were missing without it.

@ayapaiz226 This is the worst take I’ve seen so far, “you’re using it wrong”. People use boosts for exactly that reason all the time. The thorpy Dane is hard wired with the boost side into the overdrive. There’s no rules with pedals, use them how you want.

Does jammin Boss BP-1W make anyone else really happy? Boss BP-1W is quickly becoming my favorite pedal. It's just so beautiful and sexy. Practically free and the second you drop her on the board that chill ass mofo gives you a Rich Dark Gushing Robust tone.. And you also get this cute little 1/1 feedback response usually too harmless to be forgotten. But more than that, the Boss BP-1 is just so positively alluring. It comes on the board like "do you want to cast a spell?" and I'm like "yeah BP-1W i do want to cast a spell let's do this shit" and when she attacks she's like "SPELLS ARE FUN" and I'm like "yeah they are SO FUN." She doesn't say some bullshit macho shit like "I will destroy you" she's just like "nah spells are fun and voodoo spooky.” And she looks so happy. I mean this is an inanimate object that literally brought my guitar to life by magic. It understands it's life is a temporary magical gift and the dude is just fucking loving it. I mean just look at her face she’s just so happy and cute as a button. I am literally never sad when Boss BP-1W is on board. IDK if she's gonna ever make it into the pedal HOF or not, but for now she a super chill pedal.

Picked one up--I haven't been able to get down to our practice room where I have my gigging amps yet. Only tried it for the first time on a little Vox Pathfinder because that's all I have in the house. Hits the amp with a ton of volume/boom/bass. Not sure how it will work as a standalone (for example, my BD, SD-1 and TS9 do have a knob to regulate bass and treble so they are easy to deal with even on a tiny amp. But I do have to say that even on a little practice amp it is pretty freaking awesome as a boost. Jury is still a bit out for me. Need to plug it into a tube amp.
@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 8 месяцев назад
The RE mode is particularly boomy on the low end, I found the CE mode cuts a lot of that out and the natural mode just kinda lifts the sound I already have but I am predominantly using it into a drive pedal with separate bass and treble controls so I can shape it with that some more too.
@Paul-D
@Paul-D 9 месяцев назад
I was tempted to buy this, when the GAS struck nobody had it instock yet lol. I think if I was starting a fresh it would be a welcome choice, but now I already have a boost etc I don't feel it offers any benefit I wouldn't already find with what ive got if that makes sense.
@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 9 месяцев назад
Yeah that GAS can be a cruel mistress! I’d been thinking about going the boost route for an in between gain stage for a while as the SD-1W wasn’t quite cutting it so when this launched it was a bit of a no brainer!
@Paul-D
@Paul-D 9 месяцев назад
@@JasonWharton82its definitely a useful thing to have, id say even if you find an ‘always on’ type of boost (which it seems this is suited for) and then an additional boost and your higher gain stage after that.

Interesting how well the compressor really made a significant tone impact. I have a Blessed Mother fairly transparent drive pedal I really like. This may be a really cool way to boost those transparent cleans with the over drive blended in. Nice demo!
@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 9 месяцев назад
@bobdeskins6974 thanks! It’s something about the way a compressor smoothes out what can be quite a raw spiky kind of gain in the preamp modes, I’ve gotten really used to playing with compression always on (not necessarily a good thing!) so everything feels a bit weird without it.

I've kinda been using the mxr micro amp plus for this effect.
@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 9 месяцев назад
My understanding is that John uses the MXR more as a boost whereas the CE-1’s preamp is always affecting the tone even in bypass. In my experience though you can get very close to his tone using completely different pedals and amps so it really doesn’t matter much.

@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 9 месяцев назад
As an always on pedal I would put it at the end of your drives, I do this with my wampler pantheon, that way your always on pedal is setting the level and overall characteristics of the sound, if you put the drive pedals after, your overall tone will take on the characteristics of that drive pedal more than the always on pedal. Putting it last will also help you control volume jumps when engaging overdrive pedals, they will mostly just add gain and saturation this way around rather than potential volume spikes. But do experiment and see what works best for you.

Good video, and beautiful guitar sound. But I don't feel that this pedal sounds like a real CE1, I liked the NAT mode much more. Around the world there are small companies that do a very good job replicating the original circuit. I will name some for those interested: Triungulo Lab(ITA), Past Fx(AUS), VRM effects (BRA), Black Kitten Devices(ARG), Lemon&ginger(JPN)

do you know if the RE pre is the same exact one found in the RE-202?
@JasonWharton82
@JasonWharton82 7 месяцев назад
My understanding is that the BP-1w is all analogue whereas the RE-202 is fully digital. The RE mode is from the RE-201 and the RE-202 is a digital replication of that unit so they should sound very similar if not identical just with the 202 you will have some analogue to digital conversion.

@JasonWharton82 9 месяцев назад
I don’t own one to test but I would guess that the natural setting would be best if you just want to boost the amp as it’s a clean boost adding level and minimal colouration, the other preamp settings will introduce a different kind of tone that may not be as desirable if you are just trying to push your amp harder. It’s a boost and a preamp at the end of the day so the boost part will do what boosts do.
