@@ReelRejects Do you think, if they took out the movie The Batman aspect of this Show. Would this style of Show would have worked as a Live action Movie. Would this work as a movie without needed Batman, but with the title of The Penguin
@ReelRejects You guys seriously NEED to watch The Sopranos on Max! This version of Oswald Cobblepot took inspiration from the New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano! Seriously, The Sopranos is the G.O.A.T. and Tony Soprano (played by the late actor James Gandolfini) is a legendary gangster!
Seriously. They pack in so much characterization, even with small moments, and so much plot yet none of it is rushed yet at the same time no scene is wasted. THIS is how you do a good show
Episode 2 for me was pretty disappointing, only because episode 1 was perfect. Episode 3 absolutely crushed from start to finish. What an insane episode
The irony that Riddler did what he did to hurt the upper class and corrupt, but so far has only hurt the innocent people he thought he was fighting for. Vic is a bigger Riddler victim than any of the Falcones. Fuck dude, I love this show.
Riddler was never actually “fighting for people” he never cared about innocents once in the film. The only person he cared about and idolised was Batman. Until the Arkham scene.
@@geordiemc4571yes, he didn't care for the little people, but he really hated the elites, the ones ruling Gotham, he wanted to hurt the city to hurt them but that's not how society works, the upper class will always be safe, unless there is a system change and that is never going to happen in the U, S, A.
and I really like how they all have a little in common, they all want to prove their worth to themselves by showing other people what they are capable of, and all 3 have something that's frowned upon
Not just that, but Penguin just made a deal of a lifetime, and is watching his dreams come true before his very eyes. However, what do we see him doing after Vic left? Drinking at the bar, his brow turned down, as if he’s in mourning for their friendship. Oz is to Vic what Silco is to Jinx in Arcane. They share an almost paternal kinship with the older member seeing the younger as a reflection of themselves, and wanting to give them every advantage in their prospective cruel underworlds that they had to gain the hard way.
@@jdot634 perhaps, but a lot of folks were convinced that Silco would betray Jinx, but he definitely wouldn’t have. I wanna hold out hope for Oz, but he’s shown on multiple occasions how quickly he flips on people, so we’ll see.
Penguin had to leave Sofia behind. Now she knows he has been working with the Maronis. The trust is over no matter what. Also, if they kill her, he gets the Bliss business and has all the power to destroy the Maronis with the Falcone's muscle. It's the best move... is not gonna work out, but it was the best move
The reactions to all reactions has arrived. The Riddler flooding flashback scene from Victor's perspective is so well done. That continuity in storytelling is perfectly executed. Seeing Victor's pain and the PTSD he has due that event with zooming into the actor's inner turmoil is done so well. The ending scene as Victor saves Oswald and getting away parallels to Oswald trying to get away from The Batman and the camera zooming in to the actor's face we this time with Victor as he is riding away is beautifully captured.
In one episode I went from thinking that Victor was an OK character, to thinking that if anything happens to this kid and he doesn’t make it to the top with Oz, I’m going to absolutely flip out! Rhenzy Feliz is KILLING IT as Victor Aguilar! I especially love that they showed us from his point of view what the bombing of the sea wall looked like. And you can also see why he wants so much more out of life. He saw his father try and play and things fair and just settle for lower class. But Victor is tired of settling for scraps. He wants something more.
it's really interesting to see a batman story where we see his really early days where he fought mostly corruption and organized crime, before his insane rogue gallery became the norm
@@CacoExplosivo Penguin seems like the perfect fit to bridge the gap, as he is right in the middle of 'standard mob boss' and 'depraved lunatic.' When he runs Gotham, he'd happily work with characters like Freeze, Croc, Firefly, etc whereas I don't see Falcone doing that
I suspect we’re going to find out that Carmine was the one strangling girls, and when Oz came to him he took the opportunity to pin it on her. I think the hangman thing is them weaponizing our comics knowledge against us, making us simply accept on the surface that Sofia definitely killed those women. But the movie already *showed us* that Carmine was into that. I think it’s an absolute masterpiece of misdirection and lore weaponization.
This is my favorite episode because I love how it delves into more of Vic's backstory, and the way it ties in with the ending of The Batman is just amazing. It also explores Penguin and Vic's rocky mentorship, revealing more of Penguin's vulnerable side. The performances of Colin Farrell and the actor who plays Victor in this episode are outstanding
Gets more scared for Vic every episode Critics were saying that episode 4 is the major turning point and Colin said that he would be surprised if people love Penguin after what he does at the end of the series😭
They definitely did not take inspiration from that, but definitely from the cloverfield movie directed by Reeves, literally so many parallel shots from that movie and this.
I think the reasoning for Penguins “love bombing” was intuition. You can see he is picking up on Vic’s doubts and apprehension. I think most of us can tell when someone’s heart isn’t in something fully 🙏
It's gonna be sad when Sofia inevitably kills Vic and Penguin winds up getting everything he wanted at the cost of all of his relationships. Also, lmao @ Oz saying he's going to show Sofia that she can trust him only to immediately leave her for dead three minutes later.
Vic isn’t going to die.He will end up living with his girlfriend in California.Somethings going to happen where penguin gives Vic the go head to get out of the life of crime at the end of the show or next movie.Penguin seems to genuinely care about Vic so I can definitely see that happening
This show is a damn master class in storytelling. Every episode has been amazing. Sophia is a fascinating character. I have to make my prediction that she will end up killing Penguin’s mom because she will be wearing the necklace and she will know Penguin killed her brother.
That final scene of Vic running fown the Maronis and Penguin jumping in saying "We're in a now Vic" reminded me of something of out GTA or something. Lol. I love this show!!!
@@cesaracosta5483 he was in all 3 Nolan films but Scarecrow deserves a much better and much scarier adaptation, we need like an Arkham Knight level adaptation of Scarecrow
@@Herkules16And as much I love Cillian as Scarecrow, I feel like he was barely in Batman Begins. I always thought he should've been the main villain there.
This series is soooo dense, not a single frame is wasted. The characters are so strong, the dialogue, the whole writing is top tier. Even if it's not non stop action, but the dialogues hit so hard. For these first episodes i give it 10/10 , can't fault anything. Hope they keep the quality going forward.
@@baddealdude807who has absolutely no connection to the drug Bliss which is also in the comics. To me they are just references for hard core fans to salivate over, the show is clearly doing its own thing.
Colin Farrell was inspired by Bob Hoskins performance in Who framed Roger Rabbit for his portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in The Penguin. Sofia Falcone reminds me of Lucas Hood from Banshee very much who really doesn't trust anyone and literally seen hell like Lucas Hood when she was in prison. For Sofia Falcone she is the warden and Gotham City is her prison. I can already see Emmy award wins for Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti.
I think also with the Maroni’s they either suspect he killed their guy or they’re just mad that he didn’t return him. But words were spoken and they playback the scene on the preview for next episode.. I think Sofia learns everything!!!
What I really love its how the actions in The Batman really had consequences in that world, in the Nolan films, after the collapse of the train, it seems they all moved to Chicago, no more Blade Runner vibes (it was supposed to be an inspiration while filming that I recall) and nobody missed the train, not even the Wayne Manor
Oz betrays Vic and gets him killed in order to save his own ass by the finale. That's the only way we don't come out of this show cheering Penguin on going into The Batman 2
@@andothersuchnonsense2685 Ya never know. Penguin has said repeatedly he sees something more in Vic and that he has fight in him. Could be Vic just doesn't realize it yet. But now he's gotten his first kill and it could snowball from there. Not saying it will ofc just saying the theory isn't totally impossible
This is just getting better and better 😮 it's mind boggling, I'm hyped for the upcoming things in the series and what's going to happen on The Batman 2 movie.
They're making Oz so damn likeable if not loveable. He's going to have to do something so horrible that we're going to look back on these episodes with disgust if Matt Reeves plans on making him a "villain" in The Batman 2
@@ProjectMathesar I said the same thing! He’s become too loved and we sympathize with him too much now. I think he kills Vic before the end of the series.
@@jdot634Just remember, Oz is a snake. He most definitely will do something utterly brutal by the end of it. Maybe even sacrificing Vic or something. You can't become the kingpin without sinking into the abyss.
The flooding scene hit hard after seeing videos of everybody loosing everything in North Carolina and Florida from Hurricane Helene. I cried a little during that opening and had to pause for a moment after. I live in SC and to have this stuff happen to my neighbors is heartbreaking. This show has been nothing but awesome so far though!
Due to the consequences of the riddle and the help of Falcone's mafia, who, by placing bombs in different areas of the city, will lead to Victor's house and leave him an orphan. And for lack of a riddler's own life. It was seen again in the consequences of the events, that he would be plunged into the world of crime. And it was seriously devastating!!!😭 Seriously, they leave a really good context. I love the penguin and that makes me appreciate and value him more for how he sees life.
The Andor of the DC universe. Dark, gritty, slow burn, deep look inside the universe from the ground level. Under the radar, slow to catch on, but ultimately the best entry in the universe in decades
I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by this episode my God everyone was fucking PHENOMENAL . I haven't felt this emotional anxious I can't even explain by a movie or tv episode in a long time . Hands down favorite episode out of anything I've watched this year or last year or year before
How in the world did you guys watch it and edit it? The episode came out just under two hours ago. Dang. Either that or I got the times wrong. 9pm EST right?
I like how your guys first thought when they were going to the lab was poison ivy or scarecrow. Mine was bane, I thought it was going to introduce venom as a street drug. But alternatively bliss could be a prelude to venom, once it hits the streets someone alters it.
I saw the last name Bloom and thought Dr. Bloom, from when Greg Capullo and Scott Snyder were doing the Batman books. Realistically I feel with yet ANOTHER "grounded and realistic" take on The Goddamn Batman, Scarecrow is the best choice, insofar as seducing what villain is related to psychoactive drugs dispensed at Arkham.....
Personally I have my bet of Mr. Freeze being the big bad. I think it’ll bring too much comparison to Batman & Robin if Poison Ivy is also a threat, that said could be to show how both characters can be done right
Is the kid new actor? He is good and is holding his own beside two amazing actors 17:28 also, this scene is really very cool, we got a look at the more feral, angry, maniacal penguin and I loved it
The only thing I could think of this whole episode was Dave Chappelle telling the story about the pimp. How he always knew when someone was reaching their personal limit. Oz at every turn knows when to positively reinforce Victor and when to motivate him. Oz knows everyone's buttons.
“They’re very fragile” *proceeds to break a whole chunk off. I’m not sure if that was her way of saying “hands off” or if she just doesn’t give a shit and broke one off anyway, but I think it’s another instance of her not trusting Oz.
15:53 Coy and Greg, Collin Farrell said in an interview that after he read the script for the show, he’d be surprised if people still like the Penguin by the end of the show. So what I think could happen is that there will be a scenario where Oz is going to have to pick between having the powers he’s always wanted in Gotham, or saving Vic or he’s gonna kill Vic to complete his goal. It’s really gonna suck if Vic dies and I hope I’m wrong 🙏
This show keeps getting better every second of every episode. Truly amazing television. It’s stuff like this that makes me be happy to be alive in these times. 0:01
I just can’t let get of the fact that Vic kills someone and then immediately gets a mark on his head. People say he won’t be Victor Zsasz but that’s a big coincidence All I will say is this: Edward Nygma/Edward Nashton Oswald Cobblepot/Oswald Cobb Victor Zsasz/Victor Aguilar
Each episode of Penguin keeps getting better and better! If this continues, this could be my favorite Comic Book Show since Batman the Animated Series.
Episode had me on edge throughout in its entirety - everything felt so volatile even when there’s supposed to calm peace with nothing is going on. Ferrell and Cristin are so poignant, terrifying and got that reactionary dark humor. Vic is the heart. Insane with POV of Riddler bombings. But like Walter White, how the hell is Oz gonna get out of this with Sofia now knowing maybe putting it together or finding out about her brother and Maroni? He can talk his way out of anything though.
When Vic picked to hang with his girl after she texted him it saved his life. He didn’t pick her over Oz. So yea that’s pretty much him sealing his fate.
I dunno, Matt Reeves universe is going to be a serious rival to whatever James Gunn is going to offer. I just finished watching your breakdown and I agree, the world building is pretty awesome. It’s like when they announced the Loki series “why would they do that and think it would be relevant”, but look at what that show turned out to be. Now I’m looking at Oz (can’t bring myself to call him Penguin lol) and I’m seeing such a build up to what Batman is going to face now in Gotham. Incredible. Again, I really look forward to this rewatching with you guys. Thanks 🙏🏽 Just a thought…I think the one way we will hate Oz is if he sets up Vic to take a fall for Oz’s rise. We saw how quickly he just left Sofia hanging, I don’t think I could forgive him if he sets up Vic to either take a fall or to die in the end. We’ll see.
