where is Batman? Maybe he doesn't care if the different crime families are killing each other? Something tells me he will be mentioned and maybe some of his actions will be used in the plot but I don't think we will have a cameo.
I saw you guys react to Interstellar. ❤️ i loved it. Interstellar is getting re-released after a decade in theatres. Well, i will be following up for the next videos. Recommended Movie - Memories of Murder (2003)
The answer to where is Batman, was kind of answered for fans in the newspaper bits they shared around during marketing - apparently, Batman's missing and hasn't been seen for 2 weeks. And Matt Reeves says whatever Batman is doing, and wherever this show ends at, that is exactly where the Part II will pick up from. So they'll probably answer the "whereabouts of Batman" when the film comes out.
In an interview Matt said that after the events of the film, and "missing" for 2 weeks, he's "reflecting" on himself and everything in his life apparently. Makes sense.
What’s interesting is that while penguin has a big future planned for himself he truly enjoys the simple things in life. Like car air fresheners, sunrises, mixing slushy flavors. I like that about him.
Love all the tributes to the Penguin from Batman 66. Oz lives over Burgess Jewelers, a nice tribute to Burgess Meridith, and the purple color of his car is likely a tribute to his top hat and the 66 Penguin's vehicles.
I like how Penguin and Victor felt like a parallel for Batman and Robin. They even met similarly to how Batman first met Jason Todd in the comics; caught him trying to steal the tires off his car.
Hell of an opening ...Sets up The main character as someone you don't fuck with.....Hey Disney...this is called Good Writing...and Colin Farrell makes me proud to be an Irishman 🇨🇮
In one episode we learned that he’s a gangster but not totally cold blooded (sparing the kid trying to rob him), he has a loyal crew (drug den), he’s underestimated by most people around him, he’s insecure, he’s a product of a bizarre childhood, and that he’s very intelligent (orchestrating a gang war). In ONE episode. Disney Star Wars has entire seasons that tell less story.
@@boat1280 first episode described his whole character in such a beautiful way, also the other characters are just interesting as him, Sophia is hella scary, Gotham is Gotham , i would love to see more characters The direction was so good, didn't loose my attention for 1 hr and lastly the actors deserve awards
This should have been the tone of Book of Boba. Doesn't necessarily need to be R like this is, I understand Disney not wanting to do that tbh, but should have been a lot closer to this writing and characterization-wise than this its current state
@@keithfarrell4882 ok as a sopranos boardwalk empire Type gangster series but nothing to do with the penguin we no out of the COMICS all this is is a gangster crime series with a penguin title across it this is so far from what Oscar cobblepot is it’s sad there’s nothing that tells me he’s the penguin out of the dc universe or Batman comics sorry but he’s more like TONY SOPRANO or a character out of goodfellas
@@moneykenny119 more like watching sopranos DOESNT look feel like something out of the dc universe or the Batman comics there’s nothing that tells me he’s supposed to be the penguin other than his walk he’s more like Tony soprano type I don’t like it
I don't blame you. No, seriously, I have seen Colin Ferral's transformation to this character, and the team created on the character's facial on YT, and bonus to Colin on his visual search with the personality and authentic to be practical, calculation but likeability gangster with his interaction with Batman and the car scene.
They lose, or maybe they would give it a tryout in the future. I only watched because I like Colin's The Penguin in the Batman (2022), which I'm happy with the self-centred miniseries or shows with this ground, street level, gritty with mature content alongside fims and shows from DC's The Joker (2019), Joker 2 (2024), Marvel/former Neflix/Disney + Daredevil (2015 - 2019) and The Punisher show (mid 2010s) when it come to netural, antiheros and villians for adults only. Hopefully, I will see the full trailer of Daredevil: Born Again (March 2025) on YT in a few months this year.
Love Vic and Oz dynamic. Imagine Vic being able to talk like Oz and Oz being able to walk like Vic. Loved the subway scene when Oz saw 2 handicap seats
I just watched this last night, and I’m immediately hooked such an awsome show, my man Danny devito was great but this is a whole other level this is sick 👏
Don’t get me wrong, Colin Farrell is doing great work as Oswald. His line delivery is great and he really disappears into the role. But, man, Cristin Milioti is stealing every scene she’s in. She’s somehow playing someone who is off her rocker and yet 3-4 moves ahead at the same time. I can’t imagine to play that any better.
@@NikkiStevenReact She really was. I think she’s been great in everything she does. She was great in Palm Springs, her episode of Black Mirror, and even her short run on HIMYM.
Cristin Milioti played Johnny Sac's daughter on The Sopranos years ago. Very small part. I first really noticed her in Black Mirror in the "Star Trek" inspired episode "USS Callister". She's brilliant and terrifying in this. Perfect intimidating psycho look, but really intelligent and not to be F'd with.
That actor is James Madio he's been in lots of things. The first thing I remember him from was Hook, he played one of the lost boys. A few years ago he was in The Offer.
this was so good. not just excellent writing and acting but the cinematography and the music omg the soundtrack was amazing. everything was top notch. emmy worthy. In this episode Penguin gets his "Robin".

@@rachaelhogan7850 its literally ONE episode. it doesn't have to always stay loyal to the comics dummy its called PENGUIN and his plans and motives, how he views the world and people around him. and dude was just making a point about robin, you're so dense lmao. please grow up and wait for the full show to come out before just saying nonsense. This was an amazing introduction to the underground world of Gotham.
This first episode was very good and really promising for the rest of the shows, all the actors seem excellent, if you want to read an excellent comic with Sofia Falcone I recommend it (Batman: Dark Victory).
Farrell's performance is outstanding. Oz comes across as a real jabroni, but then he reminds you just how cunning he is. Also, shoutout to Rhenzy Feliz, who plays Vic. He was terrific in Marvel's Runaways, a severely underrated series which last three seasons.
And Milos is played by James Madio, who most will recognize from Band of Brothers. And Johnny Viti is played by Michael Kelly, famous "that guy" who usually plays a fixer, bureaucrat, politician or agent in pretty much any crime show you have ever watched - usually with a corrupt or sinister undertone.
@@Kevster921 He was Frank Perconte, who was shot in the ass at Foy, and then yelled at the replacement before running back to Winters about the camp they found.
Cristin milioti is awesome in everything. yes that was here, she’s already epic in this, great in one of the early fargo seasons, and a how I met your mother, and a funny rom com where they are trapped on repeat I forget name of.
Sophia is in the comics. Her brother also as the Calendar Man serial killer. Later it turned out that it was Sophia. She killed police officers on the holidays of each month. She was then locked up in Arkham. As Batman explained in "The Batman" at the very beginning of the prologue, the city is huge and he can't be everywhere. This alone explains his absence. In addition, Batman is still at the beginning of his career at this time and has mainly taken care of petty criminals and since the end of Batman there has been a new focus on actually helping people in need. All this explains his absence from the big fish. But I think the biggest clue was mentioned at the beginning of this episode. Batman has been missing for a few weeks. So he was generally not seen after the events. Maybe he's on a mountain tour to a certain Raas Alghul. He is a millionaire, there are umpteen reasons to have left the city to do things somewhere in the world that will help his Batman move forward. He is still at the beginning and is learning.
@@watchfulblue3073 Fr!! I am so happy for this show specifically, because not a lot of people is talking about it unfortunately, i hope next episodes bring people to watch it🔥
This could easily be a stand alone crime drama and it would still kick ass , this brings us back to the golden age of HBO , when they made gems like the sopranos, the wire , true detective...etc , and yet unfortunately you get people saying " where's Batman?!" who gives a fk about Batman, this is the penguin show.
Lol 😂your crazy not even close nothing about this penguin feels acts like the penguin apart from the way he walks this is more like a SOPRANOS that’s the problem doesn’t look feel like anything out the Batman universe let along penguin
@@rachaelhogan7850 you’re entitled to your opinion, but I feel like he’s making the character his own, like Heath ledger. His portrayal of the joker was way different from the source material. It’s just my opinion 🤷🏻♂️
Can we take a minute to appreciate Colin Farrel. The dudes life was straight spiraling downwards. He overcame severe drug dependency.. He's also Irish but acts so damn well you'd have no clue.. What a bounce back, remind me of Robert downy Jr
Not sure if it's intentional but Vic's character seems a lot like a turn on Jason Todd in comics. Jason was trying to steal the batmobile's rims when batman catches him and takes him under his wing, eventually becoming the 2nd Robin. Also, come on, Oz intending to kill him with a crowbar? Jason Todd written all over it. Nice Easter egg if true.
Also, not to besmirch a man’s memory, James had a horrible cocaine problem that made it hard to do the Sopranos at the end. He wouldn’t have been able to do a series like this.
Batman is still learning how to be Batman in the Batman. So I’m guessing his main focus is rebuilding the city. Penguin still doesn’t have enough power to be on Batman’s radar imo
I'm wondering if Steven has seen a show like Daredevil (2015 - 2019) and the 2003 film version. Plus, some 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and some 2010s to 2019s in the action genres (included crime drama, legal, gangster, military and thriller genres combined) in shows, tv shows and games have this cinematography which worked pretty good with the storytelling and emotional. And I can see this specific gritty, mature content and street level aesthetics of this show work well with former Neflix show Daredevil (2015 - 2019) season 1 and 3 and the Punisher show included the 2004 movie based on the production and visual inspiration from the team with the genres that I mentioned and loosely based on the comic series. Besides the creative overhaul of the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again (March 2025) in 2023 and now solved, I'm looking forward to it and agree with Steven on the aesthetics and mature content with engaging narrative in this show. Since 2019 to current I have increased my interested to support DC's The Joker (2019) again, The Joker 2 (Oct 2024), The Batman's Colin Ferrell character in DC/HBO/Sky Showtime's Penguin (2024) and Marvel's Daredevil (2015 - 2019) included the Born Again (2025), the Punisher show and John Wick films and some recommissioned based on their colour psychology & aesthetics in the cinematography, storytelling with their netural, villains and anti heroes with moral ambiguity and compelling backstory with brutality fighting choreography and heart to heart moments of humanity. And I sometime craving for adult only content sometimes. Also, I am looking to the upcoming film version based on the 1920s film and Gothic Horror Nosferatu (2024) Dir Robert Eggers, neither released Nov nor Dec 24 based on the trailer. I am looking forward to this approach for their mature adults. No hate from me with the PG PG12/PG13 contents. But I'm tired of them since the 2020s with family-friendly even the adult undertones don't working sometime.
Al didn't laugh as at Oz. Oz was used to that. But he laughed at Oz's dream, his lifelong goal and said it would never happen and kept laughing. Well ... we saw how Oz responded to that. 😠😠😠😱😱😱
very interesting, i wasnt even expecting to see the batman in this so its suprising this is such a big deal for Steven Also i recognise Sophia only from HIMYM haha😅
You guys gotta remember this Batman is on his second year of being Batman so he not ready to be taking on crime and stuff like that cause he isn’t set up like that just yet. Mostly likely they will set him up that way in the 2nd film. he will be upgraded on his street level skills definitely
I loved the episode Iam all in can't wait for next Sunday, also there a podcast about the show i recommend giving it a listen, also loved y'all guys episode on the Rector verse podcast, new to the channel and new sub by the way!
I loved The Batman, but really didnt care about this show coming out. I only watched episode one cause I saw you guys reacted to it, and then saw that Cristin Milioti is in it who I absolutely love! And I can say it was a lot more enjoyable than I was expecting.
TBH, you can make any character relatable. It's all about how you interpret them within a story. There are some interpretations where Oswald comes from money, his family are in similar circle as The Waynes. Obviously, this version is not. With this being Penguin's story, they had to find a way to connect viewers to his journey. Also, expecting Batman in this is setting yourself up for disappointment. He may be mentioned but he's not The focus. Batman will be addressed in the sequel. This series is a bridge between the films. Doesn't need to be more than that. It's like reading a Penguin mini comic series before the next main Batman story.
Steven you gotta read "Batman: The Long Halloween" and "Batman: Dark Victory" because The Batman and The Penguin take heavy inspiration from both. They are also some of the best Batman stories ever. Also if Nikki was open to solo reactions she would absolutely enjoy Agatha All Along. It's a lt's a lot of fun.
Sofia Falcone, who can still understand that Falcon kept him away from her, that he couldn't be safe with a greedy killer, which he has literally proven with Collin's Oz. And now, thanks to Victor's help, he has begun the quest for power among Gotham's most dangerous families.
The two guys in the beginning looked like CJ from the James Gunn Dawn Of The Dead "remake", and most interestingly, the best friend of the guy wanting to date Bianca in " 10 things I hate about you" starring of course, Heath Ledger and the other guy from Inception too! 😅
So, I'm only theorizing. But there are rumors the sequel to Batman will include Scarecrow. Penguin wanting this "new drug" shipment that he has not idea of what it is yet, I'm wondering if its an early generation fear toxin by Jonathan Crane (Scarecrow). Since the Penguin series will end with the next movie will pickup. Again, just a theory.
