Coy from Reel Rejects gave a good analysis of the Penguin and Victor. He was saying how Vic is to Penguin as Robin is to Batman. Also in the comics Jadon Todd was caught by Batman stealing rims off of the batmobile and of course that's how Victor and Oz meet. So that's just a little call back.

I’m happy they made Sofia the main villain for the series and belittling Oswald, making him the underdog of this story. I also love how Penguin recruited Vic is the same way Batman recruited Jason Todd, Robin, where he was stealing Batman’s tires.

You must remember, at this point the Batman has only been around for a bit over a year, and it's mainly the low-level thugs who fear him. But Oz also waited until sunrise to dispose of the body in the junk yard because everyone knows the Batman patrols in the dead of night. This first episode was excellent, and I look forward to the rest of the series to come!

Some info: Victor Aguilar is completely new character, he is not in the comics. Maybe he can be Victor Zsasz and maybe after develepment he change his name to Zsasz. It would be cool, Zsasz is one of my fav characters in gotham villains.

TBH, this series doesn't need Batman to appear. It's a bridge between the films shown from Oswald's pov. Think of this as a Penguin mini comic book before the next main Batman comic book story, which technically, this is, just on screen.

I like how they focused on his license when he first met the kid, because it was that exact moment he decided he would live. Everything else was for show to get the kid to fall in line. Besides the obvious having a soft spot for him for his disability, but him recognizing the whole place was destroyed, being from the same neighborhood. Have a bad feeling he won't survive the series, but it would be cool if this is the origin of Penguins first right hand henchman too.

Pertaining to comics, The Batman is based on the Long Halloween where a new villain named Holliday was killing mob bosses and was believed to have killed Alberto, and he was revealed and arrested and during the battle to catch him, Sofia Falcone was gravely injured and everyone thought she was paralyzed and catatonic but then people starting dying by a hangman's noose and no one knew it was her till she stood up out her wheel chair and fought Batman I believe.

This show references Dark Victory which is the sequel to Long Halloween. Sofia is the hangman killer that in the comic murders people connected to the Maroni and Holliday Killer case from the long Halloween. It ends up starting a gang war between the Falcone’s and Maroni’s. The super villains break out of Arkham and step in at the end and either wipe the families out or push them out of Gotham ending the control of the old mafia and putting control of crime under the rogues gallery.

I love that their showing us the life of a villian in gotham and how even kingpins can go untouched by batman if you're not actively trying to ruin the city, a little crime here and there with drugs is okay but if you're going to murder people, the bat will get involved. Gotham has a lot of crime and batman is busy with a lot of murderers, drugs ain't really on his radar unless you're trying to make a super drug that gets more than what human nature allows.

Hey guys great reaction as always! Randall played by Michael Zegen I completely forgot that , I remember him from the show boardwalk empire. Good to see you guys noticed the stutter and how Oswald looked at him in the moment. Did you guys notice how they were in the train and saw the handicap seat? Dave to answer your question about penguin worrying about Batman and the truth is, Batman does impact a lot of crime but honestly Gotham is so huge and there’s so many levels of corruption that it’s honestly impossible to fully stop it all together. In the comics one time Bruce Wayne held a dinner meeting for both the joker and the riddler to try to negotiating a peace deal between them (at the time both men were at war with each other and had different villains on their sides,and Bruce thought if I can’t get them to stop as Batman I’ll try as Bruce Wayne and it was so interesting to see that play out. ) Now when it comes to penguin, I always was a fan of his ability to stay in the “game”. As a kid my first introduction to Oswald Cobblepot Was in the Batman animated series and penguin went from a villain of the week type to a successful club owner of the iceberg lounge and he hosted politicians and cops, actors and actresses like everyone wanted to rub elbows with Oswald. As a kid I would also watch the old school movies like goodfellas and Bronx tale and the classic Jackie Chan films like project A and super cop. So in my mind I saw Oswald like a Joe Pesci type character. The Arkham games also show how business savvy Oswald is. Oswald Cobblepot may move slow but it ain’t about being fast in Gotham. While joker plays his obsession game with Batman in terrorizing Gotham, killer crocs eats people and mister freeze steals over the top expensive medical technology to save Nora but leaves other patients in danger of death, victor zaas hunting people due to his mental illness and riddler leaving riddles in his crime scene due to the need of proving he is the smartest person. Then in the corner of Gotham you have this fat short balding guy who is stacking cash in his pockets from selling drugs, weapons, “companionship”. All the while collecting dirt on powerful people that run Gotham.

The Falcones and Maronis are all from the comics, but it’s mostly an original story. Alberto Falcone was a serial killer named Holiday, but he was killed by another person posing as the Holiday killer. (The Long Halloween) Sofia took over her father’s operation after he was killed, but she eventually too became a serial killer named “The Hangman”. (Dark Victory) Carmine had a third child named Mario who was completely honest and hated the family business. Johnny Viti and most of the other family members in the show also exist in the comics, but they have little in common with their comic counterparts.

Alberto Falcone is generally a bit more prominent because he is one of the people known as The Holiday Killer in the iconic comic Batman: The Long Halloween. People really should look into that comic. It was also a big inspiration for Christopher Nolan. Alberto’s sister Sofia is depicted as a criminal but a loyal daughter. Their father favored her over Alberto, though it doesn’t seem like they’ll get into that in this series. Sofia becomes a serial killer called The Hangman in TLH’s sequel, Batman: Dark Victory. That’s the story that introduces Robin into that particular continuity. I find it really interesting that Vic is introduced in the same way as Batman’s second Robin, Jason Todd. I seriously wonder if that might not be where he’s headed. But overall, this is an original story.

The most well known story about Penguin origin is he came from a wealthy family that lost their standing and wealth so he went to the life of crime and they’re dead so this is a different take on it.

What a hot first ep to get someone drawn back into this world! And I mean Colin Farrell cmon he's so fricken perfect and transformative!! Here's the thing, I don't care how much makeup u put on an actor to change their appearance, if they cannot act, then it will never work. I know everyone praises the makeup, but his acting is top teir as this character & his prosthetics become just a lil bonus. I did read comics alot when younger, but I can't recall storyline very well cause my memory is not that great anymore so I'm hoping someone answers DD questions cause I'm genuinely curious too bout the families & story if in comics. My favorite role of Michael Kelly's (Johnny Viti) was in Zack Snyder's 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He was funny as hell and a badass in that movie.

You might be thinking of Victor Zsasz, a serial killer in the Batman lore who's "thing" is to carve a tally mark onto his body for each victim and keeps a "special" spot for Batman (and yeah he was in Gotham played by Anthony Carrigan). Unless they change his name and origin, this Victor Aguilar is a different character. I see more parallels to Jason Todd, who tried to steal the tires of the Batmobile and ended up becoming the second Robin. About Batman's whereabouts in this series, Matt Reeves said that right after the events of "The Batman", Bruce retreated into reclusiveness to think further about his actions and his future of what it means to be Batman.

I’ve been watching your reactions for ages and I just have to come trough with a (maybeee????) unpopular request. There is this Series called Smallville which features Clark Kent (and Lex Luther) before he comes Superman. It was shot around the 2000s and has a lot of real stunts, tricks, explosions etc and especially great given the time. The cast is pretty good and almost every episode stars a guest that ended up having a huge career such as Jensen Ackles, Lizzy Caplan, Carrie Fisher, Ian Sommerhalder, Paul Weasley, Amy Adams, Eric Olsen, Alan Richterson to only name a few. There are lot of hidden Smallville fans out there who would love to see a reaction ☺️☺️

I wonder if we're getting flashbacks in the season with Carmine because you don't cast a heavy hitter like Mark Strong to replace John Turturro in the role just for a photo and no scenes.

@@Shadowman4710 I haven't kept up with any media or publicity outside of the announcement trailer. Didn't want to be spoiled by anything. It's good to know that we'll see Mark Strong as Falcone. I'm guessing Turturro had scheduling conflicts or something.
