I have never had a mulberry. I’m definitely interested 😃

I have this one. Bought it a year ago loaded with fruit even though it was only about a foot tall. It's maybe 18 inches now and loaded again. Seems to put it's energy into fruiting more than growing. I am in Western Oregon, zone 8b

I'm growing a Pakistan mulberry in a pot container in NY. I've never tasted a mulberry so I figured to buy one last year online.

I struggle with my weeping mulberry in North Georgia. It gets killed by frost every year. I love my Illinois mulberry. It does really good. I'm thinking about getting a Girardi next.

Sounds like a great variety! I’ve only had wild and the regular dwarf Illinois everbearing mulberries.

I just bought five, one black dwarf everbearing that may not do well in 8b/9a and four of the ones more suited to the south.

Just outside Philly in NJ...mulberries grow wild here and definitely pay attention to them as one of the earliest crops of the year. Our trees are huge though, still haven't come up with a good way to harvest them. They drop right onto our garden beds :/. Unsure about putting a tarp out around them on the lawn, worried it will kill the grass?

I look forward to your mulberry pruning video in the fall. Or do you do a solstice prune on it, too?
@RossRaddi
@RossRaddi 2 года назад
No summer pruning on that one! It'll just be light winter pruning.

Great video Ross! Do you know if it would maintain the dwarf habit if grafted onto just a wild morus rubra/alba? Mulberries can get Huge in my area, so I wonder if I'd need to graft it onto its own seedlings. Can cuttings be rooted? Do you think grafting on to Girardi as a rootstock would have a dwarfing effect on the scion's variety?

I am in TX, I saw your video, you were training the mulberry stems using rocks, what is the update on that mulberry? Do you prune all the leaves? I gave cutting to my friend, Her mulberry gave her fruits, mine did not. What is the reason? What should I do to get fruits? I found one small fruit.

Hi is this dawrf mulberry safe to plant close to my house or close to underground water pipes?
@jenniferreed3230

Hi Ross, I’m pretty new to fig cultivation and could use some help. I planted my beloved Hardy Chicago two years ago in a spot that gets full sun from sunrise to sunset in the summer but also gets some protection from cold and winds in the winter, sandwiched between two houses, in zone 7a near the shore in Connecticut. The past two summers it’s done really well and last year it flourished, covered in tons of figs. This past winter apparently was really harsh and the tree has died down to about six inches above the soil. I understand I should cut off the deadwood, but don’t really understand what that means in this case. Should I cut, using a sterilized blade, just above the green, at the beginning of the green, or a few inches below the start of the green? Should I cut it now, in June, or should I wait until it goes dormant again? How long do you think it will take to grown nice and tall again? I hadn’t wrapped it for protection the last couple years, as I didn’t think I needed to, but I’m DEFINITELY wrapping it for the winter, moving forward! Thanks for sharing your love and knowledge of these wonderful trees!!!

Cut out the dead wood now. Whatever is off color. Not the green stuff or anything below it.

Sweet. Can be acidic when underripe. It depends on the variety.
