The Savotta Jaeger continues to outperform my other packs of similar size. This is a video on what I have packed for a typical fall excursion where the weather could turn bad quickly as well as some tips and ideas.

Thanks for referring the 2nd part of this. Not sure how I missed it the first time. Great job on the specs and the words of wisdom. Definitely applicable.

Again, very nice pack. Liked seeing what you carry and how you do it. The OutdoorGearReview video site really likes the same pack..

Just before 8:41. When I use a magnifying lens to create an ember from a piece of char-cloth. I worry about my eyes. Afterwards, I see an after-image. Folding sunglasses would not be the worst thing to carry.

Indeed, a very good idea to have in general. Thanks for watching!

anytime! What can you say about multi day treks with this bag? lets say 2 weeks out?
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 6 лет назад
It would be fine for that but you would have to pack really creatively and not have a lot of redundancy. It would not work for a winter trip as your extra clothes and sleeping bag would take up a lot of space. Like I said on the video, it's not an expedition pack. But, if you are just bushcrafting or practicing survival with minimal gear, it would be perfect, even for a couple of weeks. However, you might need to add a couple of pouches etc.

Love the morale patch ! I have In God We Trust and the Albany plan Snake (join or die) on a lot of my stuff ! My bushcraft pack is the LL bean Continental ruck and it is wider like an Alice pack . That narrow design is for probably to help troops when skiing.. thanks for taking us with ya. Nice video. 42 # dry is a bit much for me.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I do tend to carry a bit more weight because of the tools etc. but I don't mind!

Thanks for showing how much gear you can out in the medium pack...no need for the large..would hold way to much...getting one for sure!
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 5 лет назад
Yes, I think the medium may just be the perfect size. Glad it was a help to you.

Only things I would improve on would be to have one big waterproof liner for the bag, or replace those stuff sacks with waterproof variety. I would also get one for that blanket you have outside. Pack cover would ofc, do the job for rain, but it doesn't protect from general moisture and it's bit annoying to take it out. Pro of pack cover is also that it keeps backpack itself dry in rain so it doesn't get as heavy. But I think convenience and extra protection of stuff sacks make it a bit better choice.

Good suggestions! My solution is to just carry a large poncho and cover myself and my pack when it rains. When I'm at camp, I will usually just put it all in a large contractor bag for the overnight. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

That is a lot of stuf.f in your pack, but I think that's a good thing. Like you said, it gives you many options and you aren't without something. I think that's a great idea.

Lots of great bushcraft gear. 42# without water is a bit more than I like to carry.
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 6 лет назад
Yes , me too. But I have it loaded down with more tools than I usually carry. I like a pack that weighs around 35 Lbs. generally.

I just bought the Savotta mini and think it will do as I don't want to carry more than 12 kg and I need a small size back pack. I don't want the rucksack taller than me (153 cm). 🙂
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 2 года назад
I don't have the small, but I think that it would be a great pack for a whole lot of various types of trips.

I only wish there was a full molle on the bottom. I know the pack is very durable but still - should only one of the four bottom loops fail, attaching something under the bag would be problematic ... Nice review and kit, thank you! :)
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 2 года назад
Yes, that would be nice. However, I've used it for a while and haven't had it fail yet. So evidently the stitching is pretty strong.

Has this backpack a zipper on the side? One of Savottas has one for easy access, but I can not remember which one.

Two questions...is that the medium rolly poly on strap...and whatever you holding your compass in..tks
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 4 года назад
I believe it is the medium. The compass holder is just a surplus pouch made by Patriot Performance Materials. Thank you for your question and for watching and commenting!

Is bushcraft really just all about the gear?
@WayPointSurvival
@WayPointSurvival 6 лет назад
I hope not! It is really about learning how to use a minimum of tools to live a happy existence and enjoy the outdoors by making the things that you need instead of buying them.
