Was using a Mackie Pro for the longest time...the improvements to the industry have came a long way...this mixer is nuts really enjoying it very much worth the price.
@rode i second this. This would be a great feature to have if you have a guest over the phone that wishes NOT to be identified, having a voice disguise for the phone caller would be a great add on feature if possble.
My planned settings - 2 wireless for 2 speakers go into the RCPD. 1 output to wireless mic to transmit to video camera. 1 output to go to Bose S1 battery powered speakers. RCPD powered by power bank. Backup audio recorded on RCPD. Notebook bluetooth link to RCPD for playing media. So all totally no dependency on a power power.
Man, this is awesome! I am definitely picking up the Duo as this little unit will meet my needs better than the RCP2 when it comes to size and inputs i use which is literally 2 inputs and 4 sliders lol, this is PERFECT! I do have one question, though: will the Duo also get a clear plastic dust cover that i currently have on my RCP2? I livestream from my basement, which can get a little dusty at times even though i always put my stuff away in my cabinets. A dust cover is definitely important for me to have.
That's exciting Ricky! Welcome to the team. You can check out all our RU-vid videos about the RØDECaster Pro II and Duo here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZhLIO1o4TgE.html
Aside from physical differences, what can the RodeCaster Duo do that the Rode Connect Software can't? It seems like they both have similar software and voice effects, and if using multiple Rode Pod USB mics, I can just use multiple USB-C cables directly into my computer. Just looking to understand what differences these physical products offer that I can't do directly into the Rode Connect software for their price points. Super thankful for any insights from anyone!
Hey there @PBH27, in short, the RØDECaster adds a few extra professional features like submixes, USB audio sources like smartphones and allows you to dial in more granular effects on your audio channels. That said, you're right, there are a lot of feature similarities between the two systems. The RØDECaster is aimed at creators that are looking for a standalone podcast interface which is portable, doesn't need a computer to function, has tactile buttons and faders, and can record backups externally.
This is nice, but its appearent that you release different pieces step by step, but when I see the recent firmwares for the original RC2P, there is hardly anything "new". Considering all the talk back then, whats in the planing for the RC2P. As with more virtual channels etc. but nothing anymore. Now you relelease more and more different "versions" of that, just smaller, and take more attention to those than the original RC2P. Its sad to see how the previous main device is suffering from getting nothing new anymore. Definately my last RODE device i bought.
Hey there, we've pushed a number of recent updates for the RØDECaster Pro II that have unlocked major features like custom output routing and the ability to connect wireless microphones - make sure you have downloaded the latest firmware to ensure you have access to these new features! But the launch of the Duo definitely doesn't mean the end of updates for the RØDECaster Pro II - we will be continuing to develop and push updates across both consoles - in fact, because they run off the same system, they will share all updates moving forward, so stay tuned for these.
@@rodemic True, but look through the last 5 Firmware Updates or so. The list of "bug fixes" far outweighs the number of "adding" Features. I remember the talk about more virtual channels for a long time, as it was supposedly come as well. Which was something people were really waiting for. Instead nothing of a sort happened. Since you releleased a number of "new" & smaller versions kinda similiar to the RC2P, even with focus more on your software for controlling those devices. Even there you can do more virtual channels. Yet for the RC2P nothing of the sorts is coming. You might wanna remember how much issues people had with this device over time, the many "broken" models with really annoying issues. How often people had to return it, bought a new one and yet again got a broken one. This thing people payed a loooot of money for, I am pretty sure they would appreciate some more attention for their hard earned money they spend on that thing. Not to mention that more and more other brands came out with similiar devices, and so far i havent heard so much bad about those. The RC2P was a great idea, but it lacked following through after the idea. Is that what you want people to remember ? Its a common practice in general. if you cant fix something, or make it better, simply make a new one or slightly different one. I hope thats not what RODE want to stand for as well. After all, you have quite a reputation for your microphones over the years.
So, ethernet connection is only used for updating the FW? Nothing else? It would amazing if it could function as and audio output over network. Using Dante or NDI audio at least. I'm sad to see that it doesn't. Hopefully RODE in future will go that route and implement this. For streamers this is a must :)
I wonder if we will ever get camera connectivity straight into a RCP that would be soo much more helpful than having to sync audio/video in post production!!! This is definitely my choice of RCP series tho I don't need the 4 ports
Thank you for the question had exactly the same. I wonder that nobody is talking about the delay between USB camera and microphone into the computer if separated. Biggest solution that everything goes into one tool and then synced into the computer.
Yes it does! You can set the output of your computer or application as RØDECaster Duo and you can mix it just like a mic channel, while listening to it in your headphones.
After using it for a year, the reverberation effect has not been updated. It is very unfriendly to singing. I hope to update the Effects unit!! Thank you.
90% of the time, I have one guest and only need 2 microphones. But occasionally, I also have two guests and we need 3 microphones. Am I mistaken if I then simply connect a Podmic USB to the USB C port of the Rodecaster Pro Duo? That should work and sound approximately the same as the 2 previous Podmics, right?
I dig my DUO, just got it. But why isn't there a headphone level.. showing you how loud you've turned it up.. Seems kind of random to not even have it be a readout number on the screen somewhere tiny. That's the only thing I didn't like about it. Everything else is great. *Update.. ahh found it.. the light does kind of like a fuzzy fade on the area where you bring it up to.. I see it now.. interesting.. and glad there is something at least to know where you're at. Cheers
Great. Though it's a pity it doesn't have 32-bit flow ADC. I don't understand why some companies keep releasing 24-bit flow products while 32-bit is much better and more useful. I wanted to buy a 4-person podcast bundle for a studio and thought it'd be all Rode, but I won't invest even a $1 in anything that uses 24-bit flow ADC. This is investment in equipment for years to come. So, buying an outdated tech when a new better one is already available isn't the best investment decision. After Rode released NT1 5Gen, I thought that Rode finally switched from 24-bit to modern 32-bit era, but all latest Rode releases took Rode back to the 24-bit stone age. Even Zoom already released 3 microphones with integrated 32-bit flow ADC and integrated audio-recorders in these mics. Rode should have forgotten that 24-bit flow even exists by this time.
Hey there, we'd recommend first connecting your device to your computer running the latest version of RØDE central and running the diagnostics tool, this will help determine whether theres any updates needed or functionality that isn't working properly. From this point, if you aren't able to resolve the issues, we'd suggest reaching out to our Service Team: rode.com/contact
I was hoping that Rode would add the HDMI capture card features on this version of Rodecaster, much like the stream x, and wish the pad can be used as a switches like the ATEM, although we can do some stuff with MiDi, basically, I just want an all-in-one unit. And wish they were better build as well.
Hey @borosocsi, the answer is yes, you can. Just note that the USB2 port is MFi compatible, but USB1 isn't. That means that iPhones and iPads that use a Lightning cable are only compatible with USB2, not USB1. If you'd like to use two iOS devices that use lightning cables, you could plug into the USB2 port, and use one with the RØDECaster's bluetooth functionality.
Currently you can map 5 separate virtual audio sources using the RØDECaster Duo. But we are going to expand the number of virtual audio sources that can be sent through USB1- this is something that will come in a future update.
Hey there, the way the RØDE Wireless mic integration works on the RØDECaster Duo currently, the Wireless mics can only replace the XLR channels. So no, you would need a RØDECaster Pro II for this setup currently. However, it's possible that Wireless mics may be able to be added to other channels at some point in the future.
Hey @cristobal4413, hope you're well! We don't have an official way for users to download more drops for their SMART Pads, but there are lots of places online where you can find royalty free sound effects like you described.
Am I able to change the colour of the lights on the bottom row? That is the only thing stopping me from buying this product, it looks like Christmas to me
Hey Connor, apologies, unfortunately you'll be stuck with the Christmas tree colors with this product if you purchase one, however, you can turn down the brightness of all the buttons on the unit (together, not independently) if you want them to be less prominent.
@rodemics At your next firmware update release for the Rodecaster Duo and RCP II, please include the ability to connect USB mics such as the PodMic USB into the USB 2 port. Will there be a Rodecaster Duo cover (similar as the RCP II) be available for sale soon?
Great video and NEW subscriber here!! Was wondering if you'd recommend this for a 3 person podcast set up? I currently have rode wireless go II mics/receiver and wondering if I could connect and control the 2 wireless rode mics AND add an additional XLR mic to record at the same time? Debating between the Duo or the Pro 2 but specifically need a device to control that kind of set up. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great videos!
Good question! The Duo can connect two transmitters at once but both will take up a mic input each so you won't be able to use both at the same time as an XLR mic - you could use both in conjunction with a headset mic (plugged into the front), but we'd probably recommend the II instead!
@2:32 to be clear, it's a TRRS which does output, and input, correct? You only say "Output" here but then mention video calls @2:47 and that you can add this to a fader. The reason I ask is because the one feature I miss from the original Rodecaster Pro, that is not on my Rodecaster Pro 2, is the TRRS front 3.5mm jack where I was able to connect my iPhone via a Lightning to 3.5mm TRRS cable physically. Bluetooth connecting for taking phone calls is terrible. It randomly drops off or never connects properly to begin with. It's just Bluetooth foibles. I would rather 'hard wire' the iPhone to a TRRS jack!
Hey Frank, thanks for asking to clarify! The example at 02:47 that was used was with a headset and a video call over computer (USB), this wasn't to imply that the TRRS jack will work as a phone input for calls (like the 3.5mm TRRS did on the RCP1). In short - you will still require Bluetooth or third party call apps over USB2 to have incoming phone calls.
Hey there, the RØDECaster Duo doesn't support USB headphones, there's a chance they could work but we can't guarantee it. Instead, we recommend using wired headphones through the 3.5mm or 1/4' outputs, or through the device's Bluetooth connection (if you don't mind some delay which is an inherent part of the Bluetooth spec).
Guys, I just plugged my rodecaster duo in, and I can't get sound coming back from my computer, through my [rode] headphones. The mic is fine, but I can't hear RU-vid videos, , or even my own recordings back in loom. Any ideas?
This may be your computer has selected different output settings, double check its selected your Duo Main Stereo or Duo Main Channels as audio output, then double check your usb channel's fader is up. If you're still stuck, we'd suggest checking out this part of the user guide: rode.com/user-guides/rodecaster-duo/setting-up-usb-connections
Is there ever going to be USB multitracking (a la GOXLR/WaveLink) on this machine? I've been waiting ages for that functionality on the RCP2 for what seems like an entire year.
It currently has multitrack recording over USB and we're still working on an update to bring more virtual devices to the RØDECaster Pro II and the Duo, so we appreciate the patience!
Honestly, the Roland Bridge Cast is probably the better (and cheaper) choice for 99% of streamers/gamers. This doesn't even have submixes in the form of a personal mix and a stream mix (Dual-bus if you will).
It doesnt has this as an advertised feature but it is possible to mix your output individually for different outputs. And considering yiu have up to 3 audio sources (Dual Bus + Single Bus) for your pc, you can easily create a submix for your stream which is different from any other output.
RØDECaster Duo, as well as the RØDECaster Pro II after a firmware update, both support custom sub-mixes, allowing you to create an entirely different mix to send to your headphones as to your USB output. Both the RØDECaster Duo and Pro II also feature dual USB-C interfaces, allowing you to have a dual-computer setup, or connect a secondary device (like a smartphone).
@@rodemic Nobody connects a smartphone, who games & streams. And most people are going away from a dual-pc setup. I sent you guys a suggestion to how you can make a great dual-bus system. I think you should look at it.
Hey there! The short answer is, probably not. The long answer is that we haven't designed the USB2 port to work with USB headsets, and we haven't tested any. However, the USB port operates on the universal USB audio spec, so sometimes there are compatibilities we discover with this port which surprise us in this regard, considering that there are so many devices out there and they don't all function in the same way. Hope that answers your question!
Is there active monitoring? Am I able to hear myself through headphones? For closed heaphones as the beyerdynamic? Does it work with 80 ohm headphones?
Let me guess, you get the clunky audio routing from the RCP2 combine with the extremely limited 2 pc virtual inputs/channels? How have you not learned from the GoXLR yet?
Question I have a beacn mix create and love the way they do mixes like chat audio, game audio, etc. does this handle mixes for audio the same way or are the audio sources for the fader application specific?
Hey there- Using the RØDECaster Duo currently, there are up to five different channels you can use as inputs from different PC audio sources. They aren't application specific- you can run sources into any one of those inputs you'd like.
I have a S23Ultra, but the instructions are in your manual are only for IOS devices, not android. Why? How do I hard wire connect my phone to this device for regular phone calls. USB-C or the 3.5TRRS front port? Can someone please help?
Hey there, we would recommend making your native phone calls over Bluetooth. You can use USB2 for some apps on Android to make calls as well! More info in the User Guide here: rode.com/en/user-guides/rodecaster-duo/connecting-callers-and-online-guests#:~:text=Connecting%20USB%2DC%20Devices
Please can you make split audio in OBS possible like GOXLR does or new Roland mixer? I want to buy your Rodecaster pro Duo but I can't due to this feature not present! I stream but mainly record in OBS and this is the most important feature for me. I heard you guys were going to do it so please bring this up in your update it surely can be done. Love from Poland
Hey there- if you install the RØDECaster ASIO driver and install the OBS-ASIO add-on, you'll be able to split your tracks in OBS and record them separately. We'll have a new blog post about this going up shortly to explain it step by step!
@@rodemic thank you for the answer, 2 more questions if I may, will you be able to make a guide on that in form of a video? And secondly I can’t find a cover for the Duo please can you tell me if you planning to make one just like the regular Rodecaster pro 2 have?
Hello, I am having trouble getting a consistent connection with my PS5 to the Rodecaster Duo using the secondary input. After some time (5- 10Minute) I am getting some sort of static interference sound. The only way I have found to correct this issue is to disconnect then reconnect the Rodecaster Duo. This is only a temporary fix as the issues just keeps happening after some time being connected. I have spent a lot of time troubling shooting the issue but have been unable to find a solution. If you could please offer any help that would be greatly appreciated.
Hey there, this sounds like a frustrating issue. We'd recommend potentially trying out another USB cable, but if that doesn't work, you could get in contact with our support team here: rode.com/en/support/contact Our Discord server can also be a helpful place for people hooking up RØDECaster devices to other parts of their setup like their PS5: discord.gg/audio-video-pros-by-rode-1001456982777155634 Just note that our official support team can only be found at the first link, as our Discord server is mostly run by the community.
Hey there. This is an issue we've documented below: help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/7376147203599-Why-can-t-my-computer-turn-on-when-the-R%C3%98DECaster-Pro-II-or-R%C3%98DECaster-Duo-is-connected- The truth is, this issue is caused by an incorrect implementation of the USB standard from some PC motherboard manufacturers. So there isn't much we can do other than tell our users the truth, but we hear that it's frustrating! An external USB hub will usually solve the problem.
Well, yes. However, that would be fixing your motherboard, which is the thing that's actually broken, not your RØDECaster. We can't "fix" the problem on our end because we are using the USB spec as it's been outlined from the USB implementers forum.
Yes, more than enough. The way the RØDECaster drives dynamic mics like the SM7B is one of the areas where this unit consistently outperforms our users' expectations!
Are saying that I can connect this to a levallier wireless headset mic and make it have a reverb effect on the voice so I can guide meditation with play backing music /sound effects programmed into the pro-caster?. I'm looking for a device that does podcasting online from home but is compact mobile and inter-changeable for my classes i hold at school. Also please clarify how I can connect this to a wireless mic and what speakers work well with it so my levallier mic voice is clear with its channel and the sound effects are clear - i want to do a quality show online OR offline
Hey there. The RØDECaster Duo is compatible with RØDE Wireless devices like the Wireless ME, Wireless GO II and Wireless PRO, in the sense that you can directly pair the transmitter to the unit without any cables. For other wireless devices, you'll have to connect them using a wire. The wire or connector you use will have to connect to the XLR input or the 1/4 inch ports on the back. For example, for some devices that output a mic level signal from a 3.5mm output, you can use a VXLR adaptor to plug it into the RØDECaster.
@@rodemic thank you. So if I get the wireless mic and sync it the vocal sound effects will work. I just have to get speakers too and link them up with something that either sends a signal to them? Oh.. And this means it is something I can take out to a venue and use for a in person class to experience?
How many Rode wireless Go II microphones can you connect and can each mic be assigned to a fader even if the mic is from the same set? I want to connect 3 wireless GO II mics for live streaming mixing.
@@rodemic Can I connect them via the Rode transmitters to the duo as an alternative or I have to go for the Rodecaster Pro II to wireless connect more than 2 wireless go II?
There is a way to connect your headset with the RØDECaster Pro II - you'll need to use a 1/4-inch adapter (such as the HJA-4) to connect the headphone cable and a VXLR+ or VXLR Pro for the microphone cable.
Is the Rode duo compatible with the PlayStation 5? I have it set up and it works for a few minutes but after that the sound gets distorted is my unit defective?
Hey there, that sounds like a difficult issue. There are some users who have reported using their PS5 with their RØDECaster, but it's not an officially supported compatibility. Since it sounds like the issue with your audio getting distorted sounds quite complicated, we'd recommend sending a message to our support team here and they'll be able to help you out: rode.com/en/support/contact
Yes, you can connect a phone directly to USB 2, and all audio running into the Duo will be sent to your phone. So as long as the app you’re using can accept audio from an external device, this will work great.
is there a way to switch between speakers and headphones quickly or does it just send audio to both at the same time? Also does the ethernet jack do anything else other then just firmware updates? I know the some other brands can like send and receive sound using NDI with that port.
If you hold down the speaker icon on the touch screen you can quickly toggle the speaker output on and off. The ethernet port is just for updates at this time, we don't have an NDI update in the works.
No, in the case that you connect your transmitter to the Duo, you will be replacing your receiver (with the ME mic) with the receiver built into the Duo!
I got the Rodecaster Duo with a podmic microphone, they work amazing and its very easy to use it. On my headphones everything sounds very nice and loud but when I export it and hear it on my computer the volume is quiet low from what I was listenind on my headphones. Any suggestions?
Hey Claire, it sounds like you've got a custom routing mix set up. We'd recommend checking out this section on our User Guide for how to use this feature: rode.com/en/user-guides/rodecaster-duo/setting-up-channels-and-outputs#:~:text=Understanding%20the%20Outputs
Yes, you can connect the VideoMic GO II via TRS connection using a VXLR Pro adaptor or using the front headset jack and an SC7. USB compatibility is currently not available on the Duo!
Hey there - it really depends on what kind of sound you want, how sensitive your headphones are, and your preferences. You may want to use a headphone amp with your RØDECaster when using 600 ohm headphones, but really it's hard to say.
Hey there- if you're only looking for a way to route audio through your capture card to this product, there isn't an easy way to do that we can recommend. However, you may be interested in our Streamer X, which allows you to mix your HDMI audio along with your mic, and other audio sources for a stream.
@@rodemic ok so my goxlr mini can hook up 2 computers and a ps5 and channel all sound through the mixer you're telling me a product that costs way more can't do this?
@@rodemic found an easy way you just us a hdmi spliter that spliter audio out of the ps5 and then plug using the extra mic in port directly with a aux cable that the only way it seems.
@@pkerry12my Duo works just fine connecting it to a PS5 via USB C with the secondary port on the Duo. You can use a fader for the audio, or if you have a capture card, just use OBS to monitor the audio through the HDMI
@@haies09 yep I got my duo and worked it out shows up as a headset on the ps5 its so good!! need a better cable though because sound gets distorted some times. I assume its the cable, so I might have to buy one of the official rode cables.
If you are using the supplied USB-C cable, and have been able to update your firmware to the latest version and this issue still persists, we'd recommend contacting our Service Team to help troubleshoot.
@@haies09 Yep, the dual. Start up PC and the sound would be crackly, as well as my voice to other in discord. Yesterday, sound -- completely gone. Took me half hour to get things back to normal.
@@haies09 Yes. Don't get me wrong, it could be a great product, but there hasn't been an update for it that I know of since I bought it over 2 years ago. Also do not recommend for studio purposes.
Cheapest I could fjnd them the duo is only $149AUD cheaper than the pro ii. If you can afford $750AUD for a mixer, you can surely save to pay $899AUD and get the flexibility of 2 additional inputs. Pricing separation is too close to make a duo worthwhile. It needs to lose another hundred aud off retail for it to be worth considering.
I am more interested in saving space, and I like that it feels way more portable and compact. I love mine. I don't need the extra inputs, and I don't need the flexibility. It's perfect for me, and well worth the money.
With smaller and cheaper versions of anything they always say it's 100% identical to the quality of the bigger one except it's just smaller etc. That's almost never true. I choose to belive quality components need space and engineering a smaller version won't happen without some quality compromises being made.
The compromises we made were only to reduce the number of: physical faders, inputs, headphone outputs and SMART pads. They both have the same great RØDE build quality and OS.
@@rodemic If that's correct you have a winner package, when watching long reviews of this product however there are reports of differences. Sound leakage, audio "artifacts" and different types of connection issues that's unique to the Duo and not to the Pro ||. It's a smaller chassis and the component layout is a bit different, so I'm not surprised to see that occur. I'm not saying the Pro || is perfect but that the Duo IS a different product after all, although it's manufactured from the same spoon so to speak. I'm impressed by the overall positive reviews and it seems like a very good offer, but the "this is an identical product but smaller" mantra is often marketing language. That's my personal experience from this industry anyway.
$500 is a bit pricey when There is other choices That accomplish the same Functions It may be your choice but For Best Choice do your Research first on poscasting And what equipment is needed to do it with quality Results. All electronics Are Overpriced.
