In this episode I'll put the cabinet on its new legs for the first time and install the brains of the operation: the PC and Pinscape controller. I solder the entire Pinscape PCBs component by component and also provide a smart way for the cabinet to power off all electronics when it's powered down.

Amazing to hear that from you, thanks! You were a major inspiration for my build and I imagine for many others. Thank you for putting all your effort into the virtual pinball world

Great tip on cutting the vinyl under the legs, I've never thought of or seen that before, but it makes perfect sense to do.

It's a good practise. I've seen plenty of pins with wrinkled decals

Just found this series and am on part 2. Thank you for sharing this build. It is amazing!! Do you have any plan to, or are you willing to share the models of the exact TV/LCD/Monitors you found and used?
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
Of course! The playfield is a LG 40UH630V 40" 4K TV, the backbox screen is a Dell 30" 2560x1600 3007wfp and the DMD is a 14,9" LCD 1280x390 from AliExpress

What gets me is wire brushing the legs with a drill.. Several days? I could wire brush an entire coach in that time..
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects Месяц назад
I started sanding those legs with the intention of polishing them to a shine, which is why at first I took a lot of time to brush and sand them all way more than is necessary for just painting over them. Also, I work on projects in my spare time, so most of this work was divided between several evenings or a couple of hours here and there, spanning multiple days

Love the series….I wish I had your skill level and the guts to try a project like this for myself (but alas, I don’t)! I was wondering about the CPU/GPU/RAM specs you used to smoothly run the tables at 4K/120Hz……Thanks!
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 3 месяца назад
You can start a lot smaller and simpler than this vpin to make it less daunting. I only have a 60Hz screen, so no 120Hz. I run it with a GTX 1070, which I feel like is a bit underpowered for the latest tables. I don't know exactly what CPU I used but I'm quite sure it's an I7

Hay great video , random question how long did it take you to edit this video ?
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 2 месяца назад
It's a bit hard to say. There's quite a lot to it. I already had all the footage of building the vpin, but I wrote scripts for each video so I could do a coherent voice over. Writing the script already took some time, then recording the voice over, editing out all the mistakes and making sure the tempo is good. Then, matching footage with the voice over and recording any missing B-roll and the intro amd outro. I actually don't know how much time I effectively spend on one video, but it takes me 2 to 4 weeks to get one done.

where do you buy the pinscape board to build yourself? i cant seem to see anywhere to buy?
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
I didn't buy it directly. I followed the instructions from the Pinscape build guide to order the PCBs from a PCB manufacturer, and all the parts
@soma_rc
@soma_rc 6 месяцев назад
Arnoz sells similar boards that are fully compatible.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
Yes that's true, I took the hard route but there are ready-made boards available too like Arnoz :)

Where did you got the TLC5940NT chips? they are out of production!
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
I must have ordered them about 2 years ago, but they were already out of production as well. At the time you could still order them from AliExpress or Ebay, which is what the Pinscape guide recommends
@Mr_Turnbull
@Mr_Turnbull 6 месяцев назад
@@overtinker.projects that the point. Nobody will be able to go this way again, nowadays. There is a modified pinscape board layout which uses the new smd TLC-chips (i got one), but as far as know the layout has not been published, yet.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
You can still buy these on AliExpress, so people can still do this. There are also other alternatives like Arnoz' boards. You don't have to follow everything exactly :)

I'm still working on those, so it's probably some work in progress video's or removed video's. For some reason they stay in a playlist as well

There should be a metal ground plane beneath the CPU board. Looking like a great build.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
Beneath the PC motherboard or the Pinscape controller?
@DrChrisKing
@DrChrisKing 6 месяцев назад
Sheet metal with metal standoffs on both, all connected to ground. The boards may have sufficient grounding in the PC boards already, but typically this is done to prevent electrical noise. You can see how it works as is, but if there is erratic behavior, consider this change.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
Interesting. I did have some issues with the 48v power supply destroying the motherboard. I blamed it on the cheap Chinese quality, but maybe this extra ground plane would have helped
@DrChrisKing
@DrChrisKing 6 месяцев назад
No, probably bad power supply. Check all voltages before hooking up next time.
@overtinker.projects
@overtinker.projects 6 месяцев назад
@DrChrisKing bad PC power supply? I ended up replacing the 48v supply with a Meanwell one, that ended up fixing the issues
