This is a great tutorial for any new and future map creators! I agree that you do not have to follow every suggestion on here and afterall, it is your design and how you imagine and want your map to be like! Overall this is a very great tutorial and includes great tips and I can't wait to see more awesome maps the community comes up with!
Here’s one thing you absolutely CANNOT FORGET ON HARDER MAPS: Random spawn locations. Random spawning locations can make a map a LOT harder if you spawn at a bad location
this is really helpful! here's some tips i'd recommend as a (novice) map maker: 1. Spend time thinking about the theme/gameplay ideas before u start making a map. you won't feel really motivated to keep going if you have no ideas. 2. Inspiration from other maps is good (and sometimes needed), but don't feel the need to constantly compare your work to other maps. focusing on your own style will help you a lot more in the long run. 3. Don't rely on arrows too much!! I see so many maps spammed with arrows/signs to tell the player where/where not to go instead of adjusting the layout so its more readable. I especially get annoyed when people put "Ø" symbols around because not only does it tend to look bad, but they're usually the easiest to fix (by adding a wall or removing a platform). They also tend to break immersion most of the time. I'm not saying arrows are bad, per se, and they work fine if you're just starting out mapmaking, but keep in mind, the best layouts are ones that don't need any arrows :)
I have a little something about detail for myself. Don't act like you have a deadline, take as long as possible for making detail and at the end it will look great, don't rush the detail or if you think it looks bad don't be afraid to remake or revamp it!
here are my thoughts, the way noomlek makes his maps are really going for a casual feel, instead of putting effort into unique concepts, there are tons of reused things in his maps which don't make them feel special, although he does have tons of them to be fair. All of his maps feel like a map rather than a experience, unless it's one of his better maps you'll never remember it. His actually good maps are just these basic qualities turned up a notch, but still has the problem of feeling basic. I don't like how map creators add towers or other things that other people like to get highlighted or loved, it doesn't feel like they put any actual thought into it, an example would be avm clones
@@ShroomiMyst I know what you're saying but I completely disagree, noomlek maps feel like some of the most unique maps I've ever played, they feel and look the most unique and they look the best aswell. Take Municipality Nocturn for example, or Twilight Athenaeum, no other map looks even remotely similar to them.
coming from my opinion: SOME noomlek maps are amazing (personally Twilight Athenaeum is my fav insane) but when it comes to some others of his maps, they feel... not as interesting / fun as other maps theres a reason why ignis generally seems disliked nowadays, mainly because of how boring the gameplay is compared to say, blue moon / snowy stronghold tldr: some maps are peak, other maps are mid
