If you lightly score, or scour, the inside surface of the arrow the glue will have something to bite into, and will help adhesion. Do the outside of the insert too.
The other nice thing with the RIP TKO is that if you do want to go crazy on FOC, you can build an arrow with greater than 15% FOC without having to go super heavy becuase the GPI is the same when you jump from a 300 to a 250 spine.
Chris Bee you had a huge impact on me going with my phase 4 Mathews as well as resparked my love of archery. I only hope one day I can get like you boss man n hunt around the nation and make cool connections n memories.
VAP TKO SS elite. 250’s 520gn. Chris I’m a 31” x 80# and these darts are so incredible… I’ll never move from victory. Made by Mitsubishi’s carbon dept. I also drive a Mitsubishi L200. I trust them with my life.
Haha so funny I caught one early in the vid “millermeter” had me cracking up because I do the same 😂 My brain went hmm miller… 🍻 meter… 📏 … he just said he was on the WCB podcast!? Hahaha 😏
I agree with everything except for the use of the outserts. I dislike them and have had multiple bent outserts cause arrow failure. Switched to hit inserts with Iron will titanium collars. Makes them rock solid! I’ve bent field tips and had no issue with the arrow, just replaced the tip and kept rolling.
Good stuff Chris. Two questions if I may: 1. Do you cut the shaft to length width the added length of the outsert in mind? 2. What diameter field point do you use with these shafts? Thank you
I think my next dozen might be Victory or Sirius brand in 5mm. I've been using Day Six (.204 5mm) and Easton long range (.166 4mm) for a few years now. The Day Six HD 300 spines are tough as nails, never broken one. Can't say the same about the Easton's. I hit a golf tee on my target and one broke in half. I'm finding the .166/4mm's are just more fragile for whatever that's worth.
I’ve heard it’s good practice to have your nock removed when gluing the insert so back pressure doesn’t push the inset out. What’s your thought on that? Is that more of a concern when using hot melt, and not necessarily if you’re using a quick setting super glue?
I've experienced HIT inserts being pushed out a bit due to an air lock effect with the nock in. I always remove the nock now when gluing the insert. Superglue and ironwill hot melt. Never had the issue with standard inserts.
That’s very interesting that you are shooting basically the same arrow and weight I shoot out of my VXR28 at 75# with a 28.5 draw at 300fps. Very informative build.
Shooting same arrow this year out of my v3 31 75lb draw 28.5” length getting 302fps mine came out with lighted nocks at 432. I used a lighter hidden insert instead of the half in half out that comes with them
I shoot a grim reaper 100 grain whitetail special and I just shot my first doe of the season the other night 437 grains total weight. Hit opposite side shoulder and blew through it complete pass through
I shot my buck last year with a white tail special and i didn’t get as good of a shot off on him. I’m convinced the white tail special is ultimately why it was a fatal shot. Phenomenal broad head
Hoping these work well for me because i love my VAP SS elites but the .166 diameter lighted nocks can cause some real iffy tuning and flight…love lighted nocks but i was tempted to run the stock ip4 nocks this season just for stoutness and durability for flight out of the bow
I love your videos. I have learned a lot from you. I’m not trying to correct you. But when you talked about your ASD and trying to explain where your insert straitness comes from you can use the terms ID (inside diameter) and OD (outside diameter) I think that’ll help get your point across incase you do other video like this in the future. Keep doing what you do. GREAT content.
Chris, i'm running the Easton hit insert in RIP TKO"S this year, with a 15 grn titanium sleeve form podium archer. I'm using 4 heat vanes but if I would have know about your vanes i would have used them in a 3 fletch . Great video well done.
I disagree a little on one point. 😳 The ASD can help with accuracy and installation of insert because some inserts have some slop going in. I’m just starting the video and I’m sure you’ll touch on it but I definitely see differences when insert is installed and I use ASD a second time. Love your videos. I’ve an idea for a video and hope to produce my very first soon.
The RIPs are great arrows but the aluminum inserts are fragile. There's definitely better options out there, especially if you're going to be using them for hunting. Nice dig on ranch fairy also.
Mad respect for not jumping on the ranch fairy wagon! Been hunting with the VAP TKO for a few years and I’m confident the set up will take on anything!
I just built some new arrows with the DCA super sabre vanes. They are really dope.. Cant wait to paint them red° My are 485 grains. They are gold tip black label. I was looking for RIP TKOs but they were all out.
I just ordered Nocturnal G nocks from midways for my VAPs (4mm) TKO. Agree amazing arrows. I used to shoot easton axis. Only negative is I can't shoot bag targets anymore, which is fine.
I run a slightly heavier arrow than most other guys. I run a 5mm Easton axis with a 25 or 50 grain outsert( can’t remember which one). Blazer vanes, nocturnal nocks and either a g5 dead meat or a rage hyperdermic no collar. Total arrow weight of that set up is around 488 grains. The reason it’s so heavy is due in part to me having a 31 inch arrow I think and 75 pound draw weight. All I can say is when I’m shootings it at the range those arrows are screaming down range. At 60 yards into a block target I’m still getting 12 inches of penetrations. Also went to a double pin sight from spot Hogg this year and loving the inline set up with the pins.
@@Isaacmantx I’m probably going to get a pack of 125 grain single bevels to have for when I am running and gunning so that will push me a little over 500 grains which will work great on deer, bear and elk with my bow setup
Been watching people hunt with them. It almost seems like they are so stiff that they have a tendency to get hung up and prevent the arrows from passing all the way through. Especially 4 fletch. I'm probably wrong but it's just something I think I've noticed.
@@garymiller4715 I have yet to hunt with a 4 fletch but have ran the 2.75 driver 3 fletch for the last 3 seasons and have yet to have one not go all the way through minus a hard quartering away shot. Guess it depends on draw weight/arrow weight/speed so every setup will push it out there a bit differently.
I’m kinda with Chris, I prefer a stiffer vane, and I hate a primer pen, fletching is already an annoying process and your adding another annoying step, I like just putting the glue to it and getting on with my day
@@garymiller4715i haven’t had a problem with pass throughs running a 4 fletch tac. It’s been the most stable configuration I’ve ever done and I’m so confident in my setup right now. Which Is probably the most important thing, confidence in your equipment and even more so in yourself
Nice setup! I run the 2.25 x-vane on my 3D arrows, but running the AAE Max stealth on my Rip TKO Elite. I might make to look at those vanes in the future. My TKOs come in at 453gr. I just picked up a Phase 4 29 and with the 75lb 80% let off at 27.5 " I am able to get 284FPS.
I have an older Bitzenburger and the jig that came with it works fine but I bought a left helical clamp and it caused my vanes come out two closer together than the other and I discovered that the new jig has a thin piece steel glued to the clamp where the old clamp dose not and that threw the alignment off.
I liked the dig on ranch fairy 😂. Everyone has their preferences, but I don’t like the super heavy arrows. Flatter trajectory in case I’m off a couple yards is better in my mind
@@bullseyetony5887 light and heavy arrows work I have shot both I prefer a heavy arrow setup I have more confidence in it than a twizzler with an expandable
@@torreyintahoe did you know 223 remington is twice as fast as 45-70 gov. One works well on prairie dogs and coyotes. The other is still being used on moose and grizzlies. Speed isnt the only thing that matters. The guy from ElkShape switched up to a 485 grain with a single bevel 2 blade and has shoulder shot elk and gotten complete pass throughs. So sure it can happen to anyone, anyone who doesn't bring the right tool for the job
@@jrod4717 I don't believe that any arrow is capable of going through an elk shoulder. Probably glanced off and kept on going. A 485 gr arrow is still considered fairly light and regardless of how heavy an arrow is, it still has to hit something vital to be effective.
Chris I am looking to run a 4mm arrow for my new Lift set up. Would you suggest the Vap TKOs or the Easton Axis LR? Or if there are other options please let me know.
Hi Chris. Happy new year from Denmark. Here in Denmark the law says that if you want to Hunt red stag fallow deer or sika your arrow has to be 525 grain or above. In shooting phase 4 60 pound draw 28,50 Im shooting easton axis 340 but now i need to build a heavier arrow. I still wanna use easton axis but should i go to spine 300 or Can i make desent arrow with 340 and differnt inserts and a heavier blade? What would you recomend ? Kind regards Dennis
How important is arrow weight when choosing an arrow for a new bow? I just bought the Mathews phase4 33, I am researching arrow selection and a lot of the videos I’ve seen only look at arrow spine. I want to use illuminated nocks, so that’s a consideration on weight, the one video said 6-8gr per pound of draw weight. How do you come to an arrow weight?
