Nice chipper. I run my chipper at 41hp. It rips the branches out of your hands. You need to let go and back up fast. I’ve been chipping 2 years worth of black walnut branches through it this month. We use the chips in our gardens and some go into the compost pile. I ad grass clipping to it and mix it in to get it cooking. Great video.

I suggest you get one of those one-handed mini chain saws to quickly cut off the branches that are interfering with the feed process. It will dramatically increase your efficiency and while reducing frustration and stress!

I've been thinking of getting one of these to replace my Chinese 4" gravity feed chipper (Wallenstein knock off) but after watching this video, I will keep the gravity feed chipper. It has a 4" x 10" opening and it would take a lot of those branches you struggled with. I was hoping the WC68 would produce smaller chips and greens but it doesn't appear to. Plus it seems slower than my gravity chipper. Thanks for saving me some $$$$.

Can't agree more, my PTO chipper is used more than anything else. Over 1/2 of my tractor run time is with chipper.

Note to self...saving money on chippers = struggle. Your videos are really helping me a lot. I had a small TroyBuilt chipper once when I owned a tree farm. They sound like a good idea, everyone loves chips. But I think next time I'll opt for just stacking brush to rot. And now I'll even thinking maybe no tractor even. Seems like once down the equipment path it's just more and more. Maybe I'd forget why I'm doing this...to be in the woods in nature. Maybe breathing exhaust all day, having to wear hearing protection, well I may as well be in a city. Maybe a chainsaw is as far as I would go for myself. Good to see your videos to remind me, oh yeah, that's what it was like.

I have the WC88, it's a beast. I run it on my little Kubota B3000, (less than 30 hp at the PTO) no problem. I have put everything through it over the last 2 years. Amazing hydraulic feed makes it the cats ass. Never used a chipper as amazing as the Woodland MIlls WC88, I also have one of their saw mills. Hello from Dornoch, Ontario. 40 km south of Owen Sound

Good to hear about the wc88. I almost bought one but ended up with the wc68. Both great machines no doubt.

Greetings from Nevada. I also have the wc68 I just put into service about a month ago. I too get bogged down with fresh-cut pine. Quite a disappointment from the advertisements. It does great with deciduous trees and dry wood. Thanks for your vids.

I looked at the WC68 but went with the WOODMAXX 9900. I've got 32 PTO Hp on my Kubota. I can see I made the right choice as I'm not impressed with the Woodland Mills unit, seems to be light duty and struggles with 'twigs'.

That chipper is awesome Sandy. I don't think you've ever told us what your day job is? Really enjoying the massive amount of content that you're putting out at the moment. You must be working hard on filming and editing. Great stuff. It's getting much colder here in the mountains of BC. Lows down to +2C most nights now.

Thanks for checking out the video. It’s been quite busy around here but I like sharing the journey with everyone out there. I haven’t said much at all about my day job as I think I’m going to keep that part a bit private for now. I appreciate you being one of the long time viewers. Great to have good folks like you along for the ride

When trying to put those big pieces into the tripper instead of getting at the end in shoving it works better if you keep one hand on the chipper in feed control and grabbed the limb with the other hand and pull itll go right in I do this every day
@bigbluram
@bigbluram 3 года назад
Also don't need to remove all of the lateral branches if you just put a pressure cut in one side of they will fold and break as they go in

Good times right there! Enjoyed the vid! Just wondering with the chipper, do you take the tach up any more in the revs besides just 540? Is there a case where you would want to crank it up some more for a particular reason? Just wondering is all! Enjoying being a subscriber and commenting, it’s nice connecting you Sandy! And all the chores and things your do on your property, from go karts to snow blowing and milling etc I enjoy as well! Cheers an take care!
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Год назад
Great question. I do leave it right at 540rpm just because that's the number the chipper calls for in the manual.
@Andrew_From_NB
@Andrew_From_NB Год назад
@@sawingwithsandy yes for sure, gotta stick with what the manual suggests 💯👍. Dont want to over rev a piece of equipment like that as could cause some issues potentially. I guess really that’s what the variable infeed roller is for, but was just wondering more or less :)

The feed rate seems slow. I've read that a big advantage of the WC68 over the Woodmaxx mechanical feed chipper is the faster speed, but I've seen videos of that Woodmaxx and it seems that it's faster than yours. I assume you have the hydraulic valve that controls the flow/speed set to the low speed range?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 3 года назад
I may have had the feed rate turned down here but I can’t remember. I have never felt like the chipper feed rate was too slow even when chipping full size 6” wood through it. The pto hp of the tractor will also dictate how fast you Can take in large material
@sideskraft

@@sawingwithsandy Thanks Sandy. I'm learning toward the Woodland Mills WC68 for my own chipping needs. Interestingly, I see very few decent PTO chippers for sale on CL & FBM, and almost all of them are way overpriced for being used (and some of them abused). It's clear these things hold their value, especially if they're well cared for.

Ummm, ...battery powered sawzall and/or chainsaw would make life a whole lot easier. Don't leave home without it! =O) Just busting your chops. It's actually good to see what pushing the limits of what the WC68 will be able to suck through without having to trim everything down to straight sticks. 👍

Hey Sandy, Thanks for the video. You got me motivated to hook up my Echo 4" self feed ( as in myself ) to my ck 25 hst no cab and chip up all the brush. We use our chips. How often do you grease your chipper? Some of mine are time consuming to get to i.e. remove flywheel cover etc. our weather here in Oregon has started to change, fall is in the air, low 50' in the morning👍🏻. Stay safe bro.✌🏻
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 4 года назад
I grease my chipper about every other time I use it, assuming that I put in a solid day of running it. Mines pretty easy to grease so if I’m greasing the tractor I normally just do the chipper as well. Must have lots of brush up in the woods of Oregon to take care of. Thanks for watching

Love the videos, I have lots of pine on my property as it used to be an old Christmas tree farm about 35 years ago. Just curious if you have your rear wheels dished out? Maybe it’s just the angle I’m seeing that makes it look narrow, especially with the added high weight of the cab. Edit: I think I see they are dished out all the way now.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 4 года назад
Hey Dan, thanks for checking out the channel. The tractor does have fished out wheels. I do agree that the video made it look pretty narrow. You certainly would have your work cut out for ya with the old Christmas Tree farm.

Sawing with Sandy I just putter a little at a time, cutting up dead hardwood for firewood so far. Got a nice 35hp kubota with front end loader. Have red pines, spruces, furs, balsams and about 30 more acres of real nice hardwoods with lots of ash, maple and tons of black cherry... just lacking a sawmill!

Sounds like our properties are pretty similar except you’ve got some more hardwood than I do. Sawmill sure does come in handy if you’ve got some projects coming up. Nice tractor you have as well.

@@sawingwithsandy A chipper can have a big 10" opening but a small 4" horsepower/capacity to better handle squirrley branches like those you struggle with.

Do you regret not getting the wc88 chipper? Or is it to big for your tractor?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy 2 года назад
I've found that since the wc88 is the same width opening as the wc68 at 8" and the height of the wc88" is the only thing that's taller by 2" and so I haven't found the height to be needed for my uses. I also like having the chute to the chipper directly behind the tractor as opposed to angled. Hope that helps and thanks for watching
