One of the biggest things that makes me love this episode is the things left unsaid. “I was just so angry....but I never.....” “I can’t believe I let a silly feud keep me from my family.....”
The part of the episode that got to me the most was in the background of the wedding scene. Sure, Granny Smith didn't want them to get married (at first) either, but the look on her face when Grandpear basically *denounced his daughter* speaks volumes. She comforts Pear Butter, accepting her into the Apple family almost instantly. The Romeo and Juliet cliche works for this episode.
I really wish there were episodes that focused on the parents of the mane six. Much like this one did. Who wouldn't want to know how their parents met, fell in love, married and dealt with personal and family matters.
@@M.W.K6996 yah, I'm also sad about the lack of raritys parents, they were around for what 2 seasons? Just to confirm there alive? And even after there daughter became a famos, hero, designer, element bearer, and friend of royalty, they never once came by to show they care, or when there youngest little sweete belle was both the flag carryer in the equastria games (witch would be a big deal) or got her cutie mark nothing! !!?? What the heck guys??? Sorry, I just feel like there being shown as pretty bad parents.
I loved how Granny Smith quickly changed her tune from the moment Pear Butter said, "The Apples are my family now, too." Granny probably never expected such loyalty to her family from the kin of her biggest rival.
One thing that I like in this episode is that the apples are characterized as like a mix Japanese family and a colonial American family, the way that mixes things that are prevalent in both cultures is amazing
The Perfect Pear was the episode that got me into watching the show by itself (and not through review videos). This episode will always hold a special place in my heart.
This episode was worth the wait, seeing both Bright Mac and Pear Butter was fun and adorable and William Shatner aka Captain Kirk from Star Trek as Grand Pear was a great addition, certainly one of the top episodes of the show for me ^^ Great review as always Golden ^^
Talk about the definitive version of the Romeo and Juliet formula. Also, the MLP staff really like Star Trek. First John DeLancie, then Zoe Saldana and now William Shatner. Where's the love for Star Wars? Give Mark Hamill a role, damnit!
Of course I would love to have Mark! Speaking of other big voice actors, did you know I once created an OC for Michelle Rodriguez named Blythe Flight? She is meant to be a new friend to Rainbow Dash. I also decided to have Ashley Tisdale play Blythe's sister Flower Flight, *an actual background pony from the equal village that I did not know shared the Flight name when I created Blythe on September 28, 2017.* Flower Flight will tell Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy why she gave up her cutie mark, and how she eventually forgave Starlight Glimmer. If I succeed in reviving the Friendship is Magic series and fandom with my 26 Season 10 scripts, the Flight sisters are both new neighbors in Ponyville! Ponyville doesn't have many pegasus characters, mostly just earth ponies and unicorns. How cool would that be to have Ashley Tisdale be a new mainstay of the series, since she was in Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch with Tabitha Saint Germain? Do you think that would be possible? Picard must have studied early 21st century teledrama at some point, and unconsciously connected Q's voice and mannerisms with Discord's when he made the "next of kin to chaos" line.
This episode to put it bluntly was flipping beautiful, it's really hard for a cartoon these days to make me cry and the moment when Pear Butter was disowned by Grand Pear got me flustered but the moment I saw the intertwined growing trees the waterworks came.
11:53 This moment Golden is even more sad and painful for Grand Pear after reading the comics. Its revealed that despite his harsh words, Pear Butter wrote letters to Grand Pear all the time....letters he never answered but learned of his Grandfillies from. When the letters stopped coming, he put together what happened and thus returned to Ponyville. How do you face your own Grandchildren after so much unsaid?
Due to another flashback in Going to Seed, it makes me think Apple Bloom was about the age of the Cake twins when her parents passed if not a good bit younger.
Actually both Grand Pear and Granny Smith were being snotty and competitive. I think it started off as just business but grew into something more personal as feuds often do.
trying not to cry at this video. this why i love the Apple Family. sorry now i need to watch some thing funny now. thanks GoldenFox and have a nice week and weekend.
I was crying from the start of the review because I love the message, I love the episode, I love the scenario, I love how it became realistic, and it was romantic, the lessons are well taught
The Perfect Pear is an absolute treasure of an episode. It is truly one of the best episodes of the entire show and definitely my favorite episode of Season 7 because to me personally, this episode was worth the wait. Yeah the whole Romeo and Juliet style of the story is cliched, but honestly it's not the destination that matters, what truly matters to me is the journey, as long as the journey itself was enjoyable then I don't really care if it is cliched (i.e. the 2017 MLP movie). It was well paced, the acting was wonderful, the characters were likable, the song was fantastic, and the episode overall was very touching and felt like it had a lot of heart.
I agree and whoever wrote it should get a gold star, a huge bonus check, and more. Oh, and can we all agree on giving the Apple family a big hug? I saw a particularly beautiful song on youtube called "Dream of you" with Apple Bloom missing her parents, it was so sad and beautiful. I kid you not, if you haven't seen it. Bring the tissue box if you seek it out. The fact that this episode could inspire someone to quickly create such a beautiful song and with animation, speaks volumes on the ability to touch people's hearts.
@@anonamouse5917 I'm not sure he could. The only celebrity guests announced for this season were Patton Oswalt (along with his family) and Weird Al Yankovic.
I love the perfect pear, I cry at the part of grandpear leaving his daughter and the tree oh god the tree Edit: the episode was good but one plot point i felt is how the apple family never discovered the tree in the first time
When it comes to ratings, I think you have to consider the time periods of when certain TV shows and Movies came out. Land Before Time came out in the 80s. Yes it was rated G, but back then, people had 'thicker skin' and cartoons did not hold your hand. It's why Gen 1 MLP did not hold your hand with dark content. That changed overtime. Now any show has to stick with their ratings. Steven Universe is rated TV-PG, MLP:FiM is rated TV-Y (which I think is dumb since even the premiere had elements of violence in it, even though it was tame). It's why all Disney movies are now rated PG, so they can talk about more 'adult-like' topics because they can have things like death in them. What I am saying is, if a movie like Land Before Time and The Lion King came out now, you can bet your boots they have that PG rating because both have parent deaths in them and parents now would expect that kind of rating. Like look at Moana, it's the most recent Disney movie to have a death in it and it's a lot more tamer then The Lion King if you ask me, yet it has that PG rating.
Plus, there are a decent number of modern TV-Y rated shows that do talk about death, if even a little. For example, Elena Of Avalor , a Disney Junior show, has Dia De Los Muertos episodes, and Elena's backstory is that her parents were killed before being trapped in Sofia's amulet.
I just have one more question... who was Granny Smith's husband? And/Or.. Bright Mac's father? I guess he didn't _have_ to be married to Granny Smith. Also I think Pear Butter's eyes are the prettiest eyes in the entire show. Anyone else agree?
This is not only my favorite episode of season 7, but also my favorite episode of the series. Bright Mac and Pear Butter love story is just so touching and every time I watch it I get emotional every time. Romeo and Juliet may be told many times but it’s just a timeless tale that every kid of any generation should know. William Shatner’s cameo was also very introduced. We may never get to hear Grand Pear speak again but this episode was just what we needed. The Perfect Pear is an episode that fans should watch for the sake of knowing more about AJ’s parents and what it was like before she was born. Definitely an episode worth checking out! 🍎❤️🍐
This was one of my favorite episodes as well, Golden Fox. Probably the best from the entire series with explaining the history of Bright Mac and Pear Butter. Also, appreciate that they got William Shatner, AKA Captain James T. Kirk and host of Rescue 911, to guest star as Grand Pear.
This episode was amazing and is the best one of the series in my opinion. It's rare that something in a TV series/movie makes me cry but this one had me tearing up quite a few times, from that heartwarming song to the moment when Grand Pear made her choose between being an Apple and being a Pear. I will remember this episode for years to come, well after G4 has come to an end.
Say what you will. But I will always be a sucker for these types of love stories. To quote from Golden Delicious. You can't stand next to Pear Butter and Bright Mac to long and not feel a little lighter then air yourself. That hits home for me just as much as Grand Pear making his kid choose between her families. Can I get an amen for that?
If Friendship is Magic ends before they tell us the ultimate fate of Pear Butter or Bright Macintosh, or give the Equal 4 more stories with the Mane 6 and Starlight, I am going to scream and cry. July 1, 2019, 8:38pm
It is confirmed that they have died. According to Laura Faust they died in a Timber Wolf attack which was going to be shown but was considered to much for an animated show with the MLP theme.
Would anybody like it if the undisclosed reason why we haven't seen Pear Butter and Bright Macintosh all this time wasn't because of an unknown cause of death, but because one day they got stuck in a fake identical world simulated by Changelings? July 1, 2019, 8:30pm
I just wish Hasbro would release the season 7 and onwards songs to itunes or somewhere. I've been resisting pirating out of respect for the franchise but I'm not going to last forever.
The West Orchard is where PearButter and Brightmac's Tree is. Its also where Granny Smith said that the Fruit Bats (Not the Vampire Fruit Bats) infested therefore they couldn't harvest the apples there, back in Apple Family Reunion. This explains why the Apple Siblings would never have seen the tree. Especially if the Fruit Bats infested the West Orchard when Big Mac and Applejack were much younger and their parents were still alive. And i know you dont like the episode Goldenfox, but even the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 episode supports this continuity. Because during the cider competition with Flim and Flam, Granny let them use their South Field for the competition which leads me to believe that the Apple Family were using their Orchard on the East side of the Property which later became the Vampire Fruit Bat's Sanctuary in the episode Bats. So i think the writers were really careful with not only Bright Mac and Pear Butter's Story but also the reveal of their tree trying to put it in a very specific part of the orchard that Applejack, Big Mac, and Applebloom never worked on.
Burnt Oak actually makes a background cameo in It Isn't the Mane Thing About you, but you need to pay close attention as it's only in the very first couple of seconds where you see him talking with Apple Bloom. I know it's a bit inconsequential, but I really like this little attention to detail. Oh, one other thing, how far along are you with watching the Season 9 episodes? I ask that because of what you said about wanting to see AJ's parents again, but I don't want to spoil anything - wait, did I just do so? In that case, I apologize.
You didn't spoil anything. You just wanted to see AJ's parents again as much as the rest of us and hoped to see them again in Season 9. July 2, 2019, 12:02pm
This episode made me cry so much when I first watched it, the only other time I felt that much feels was the last Avengers movies. Also Felicia Day is my first(and at this point feels like only) brony autograph.
I hate to burst your bubble, but I am personally not one to believe in autographs. Getting pictures of myself standing next to them in person means a lot more to me. I don't care about the signature, I care about the physical (fully-clothed) appearance of the person. July 1, 2019, 8:48pm
At the 2018 Brony Con, Bill Newton said he would love it if I did a sequel to The Perfect Pear where Pharynx tricked Pear Butter and Bright Macintosh to a fake identical Changeling world and they turn out to be alive. The only problem is, after the advent of Wonder Park, I am not sure how well that would go with some people. July 1, 2019, 8:46pm
This was an amazing and dramatic episode! What's scares me is that had Granny Smith decided too move I reckon she'd have abandoned her son and Grandpear would've taken her place. As for their deaths, agriculture is incredibly more dangerous then you think, where I used too fly there was a local legendry WW2 pilot who flew through swarms of fighters while escaping the Nazi's (he was Romanian) and survived only in the 1950's to crash a top-dresser and be paralysed and wheelchair bound for life.
There is a group on fimfiction called Friendship beyond season 9. It’s for those who want to ingore G5. And it is a place to talk and work together to go beyond season 9. It is basically a group that will have fandom own versions of season 10 and beyond. Hasbro May have stop but the fans won’t.
I have already been writing Friendship is Magic Season 10 episodes since 2017. I wanted to make Party Favor a new main character, solve the mystery of Pear Butter and Bright Mac's disappearance, and most importantly, point out how futile and self-centered Starlight's reason for instant redemption was in The Cutie Re-Mark! July 25, 2019, 9:10pm
Awesome and amazingly wonderful review on the Perfect Pear episode there, GoldenFox. Keep up the great work and I hope that you, your friends and family have a terrific summer vacation. Take care.
Those who would criticize this episode for not showing us how AJ's parents died would do well to keep in mind that it did us something better. It showed us how they lived.
This is my favorite episode of season 7. If there’s one thing I don’t like about it though it’s the scene with Apple Bloom bringing home the pear jam. Scenes like this always make me feel nervous inside and I know this is just my opinion. One thing I like about Apple Bloom is that the pride of the business hasn’t gotten to her yet. How she’s not blinded by being the most successful and is open minded to others and their own businesses. Except maybe in Super Speedy. Sure money is important but I feel like it shouldn’t get in the way of how nicely you treat other people. Apple Jack let that get to her head and that’s one of the reasons why she’s only my 5th favorite of the mane 6. I still love Apple Jack for how down to earth and honest she is. And I still love this episode. 🍎🍐
Well there is hope that the fandom will continue G4 on. Who knows there may be fans already out there trying to get voice actors to not let G4 die. I know a few of them.
THANK YOU I didn’t hate super speedy but it was definitely irrational a lot of the time not least of all bc (at least in the beginning) flim and flam were honest sales stallions who just wanted to help
Yeah. This episode was straight gold. Writing and voice acting and handling of the subject matter was tremendous. It spoiled me and watching The Last Crusade was just such a clunker by comparison. I guess i expect too much of the show sometimes. I will always remember this as one of, if not THE, highlights of the entire series.
Question is though what happen to Big Macintosh, Applejack, and Applebloom's parents. I mean did they pass away, or did they get loss somewhere in Equestria trying to find their way back to their children. We know how their parents came together. But not what happen to them later on. I hope Big Macintosh, Applejack, and Applebloom are reunited with their parents Bright Macintosh, and Pear Butter. For Apple siblings going for so long not seeing their parents. I find that heartbreaking and sad.
I'm not surprised with her casting since she did voice work on Fish Hooks, which shares 3 writers with MLP (Nick Confalone, Neal Dusedau, and Meghan McCarthy).
Every time I watch this episode ball my eyes out, which leads to the question from my roommate "are you watching Doctor who regenerate? Or is it the the apple pony parents"
Great review Fox! And about the bs about kid shows not being able to show or even talk death; I remember an episode of "The Lion Guard" where Simba is going to an elephant's funeral. And later in the episode, that show THE FREAKING BODY! So yeah, I think hasbro is just too chicken to take on that kind of topic. :/
And that episode was in season 1. Another Disney Junior show that isn't afraid to tackle death is Elena Of Avalor, where part of Elena's backstory is that her parents were murdered.
I didn't like this story because I'm not big on the whole Romeo and Juliette forbidden love trope. But it was nice that we finally got to see the parents though we may never know of their fates.
The moral of the episode is family sticking to become stronger, but not all family work this way especially anime. Most people think Grandpear did the worst thing by abandon his daughter, Vinsmoke Judge from One Piece ditch his son Sanji for being useless. After ten years later, he still say the same stupid thing after fighting Sanji. I'm sorry for throwing my anger in this comment, I just want to say there are people did a lot worst than Grandpear.
am I the only one who noticed how Appbloom and Bright Mac share the same mane and body color? Where as Big Mac and Apple Jack are the inverse of Pear Butter & Bright Mac? Just sayin. If I had to summarize this episode in a few phrases? "awwwww that's so shmickin sweet. From now on your new name is cutesie poo, and may all your loved ones get diabetes." -Barron Tall Tales, 2014 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HxyuUMLBWRY.html
@@GoldenFoxPictures Yes it was a review. Of the perfect pear and the part that was matched was that same scene. I just wanted to know if that happened to you yet.
